Forecast model predicts Donald Trump will win back White House, Republicans to take Senate and maintain House majority

A new election forecast predicts that former President Donald Trump will win the presidential election and that the Republican Party will take back control of the Senate and maintain its majority in the House of Representatives.

The forecast model, released on Wednesday, May 29, by elections results website Decision Desk HQ and mainstream media outlet The Hill, gave Trump a 58 percent chance of winning back control of the White House.

Both the Republicans and the Democrats are expected to intensify their campaign operations as the election draws closer, aiming to secure the support of the dwindling number of undecided voters and to bolster their support in critical regions, such as the six swing states and the several “toss-up” seats in the Senate and House.

Forecast model predicts Republican takeover of Congress

The forecast model shows the GOP has a 79 percent chance of taking back the Senate and a 64 percent chance of maintaining its hold over the House of Representatives. (Related: POLL: Trump still favored to win presidential race despite indictments.)

The forecast model predicts that the GOP will take back the Senate with 52 seats compared to just 46 for Democrats and two for independents – Sens. Bernie Sanders of Vermont and Angus King of Maine, respectively.

In the House of Representatives, the model predicts a Republican hold with 222 seats for the GOP – the same number the Republicans won in 2022 – and 213 for Democrats. The House has 17 “toss-up” seats, 10 of which are predicted to be won by Republican candidates.

The possible shift to the Republican Party taking total control of Congress could significantly impact legislative priorities for the next administration and its ability to confirm appointments.

Trump predicted to win election with at least 280 Electoral College votes

As of May 29, the model predicts that Trump will win the November election with 280 Electoral College votes to Biden’s 258. Just 270 are needed to win the presidency.

The model lists six swing states for the election – Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. Of these six, four are currently leaning toward voting for Trump while just two are leaning toward Biden.

Currently, Trump is given a 63 percent of winning Georgia, a 59 percent chance of winning Arizona, a 56 percent chance of winning Wisconsin and a 54 percent chance of winning Pennsylvania.

Meanwhile, the forecast gave Biden just a 54 and 51 percent chance of winning Michigan and Nevada, respectively. Biden’s 51 percent chance of winning Michigan, formerly a Democrat stronghold, is considered to be basically a statistical tie.

Nineteen states – including Maine as the statewide popular vote winner – the District of Columbia, the second district of Nebraska and the first district of Maine are either “likely” to vote for Biden or are “safe” votes for him. Meanwhile, 25 states – including Nebraska as the statewide popular vote winner – the first and second districts of Nebraska and the second district of Maine are either “likely” to vote for Trump or are “safe” votes for him. This excludes the six swing states.

Israel deploys unmanned armored vehicle near Rafah, uses Gazans to test experimental military tech – NaturalNews.com

Israel deploys unmanned armored vehicle near Rafah, uses Gazans to test experimental military tech

Reports are circulating on social media claiming to show Israel deploying an experimental unmanned armored vehicle near Rafah. The reports show photos and a video of an American-designed and produced M113 armored personnel carrier (APC) converted into an unmanned ground vehicle.

The M113 is an American-designed and produced armored vehicle first put into service in the 1960s during the Vietnam War. The M113 is considered to be outdated, slow-moving in semi-urban settings and vulnerable to the most basic armaments Palestinian militants can carry in Gaza, including RPGs and other anti-tank weapons. Most militaries that still use the M113 only deploy it in auxiliary roles.

Some claim that the M113, called “Zelda” in the Israeli military, had been deployed since the onset of the war.  (Related: So they’re experimenting with military robots in Gaza now.)

Discussions on the platform X, formerly known as Twitter, highlighted the significant role M113s have played in the battle for the Philadelphi Corridor in Rafah, a critical area spanning seven miles along the Gaza-Egypt border. Reports suggest that these unmanned APCs have been advancing westward along the corridor, extending operations toward the Mediterranean Sea.

The use of unmanned M113s, while still unverified, could address some of the vulnerabilities of lightly armored vehicles like the M113 that only provide limited protection against small arms and are ineffective against more powerful munitions like RPG rockets and heavy machine gun fire.

Remote controlled M113s part of plan to repurpose and upgrade APCs

The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) have been seeking ways to repurpose M113s for years. After 2014, it was decided to replace the aging system due to its small size, slow speed, and vulnerability to anti-armor weapons, while allowing M113s to continue serving in auxiliary roles such as mounting mortars and transporting personnel.

Israel maintains hundreds of active M113s and thousands more in storage. One innovative approach has been to equip them with 120 mm mortars, transforming them into mobile artillery units.

The use of unmanned M113s in the Gaza conflict underscores a broader trend of deploying new technology.

The sighting of M113s in Rafah is notable, given that the IDF’s new Eitan APCs have also been active there with the Nahal brigade.

The Eitan, developed to replace the M113, began production in 2020 and was delivered to soldiers in the fall of 2023.

This modern, wheeled vehicle can carry 12 soldiers at speeds up to 90 kph, offering greater speed and maneuverability compared to older tracked APCs like the IDF Namer, which is based on a heavy tank chassis.

The IDF has introduced several systems, such as smart gunsights and precision mortars, which were under development or in initial deployment stages.

The war has accelerated the need for these technologies to enhance soldier protection, provide better information to commanders, and deliver precise firepower to neutralize threats.

Study reveals B VITAMINS may reduce glaucoma risk – NaturalNews.com

Glaucoma is a condition affecting the eyes that poses significant risks if left undetected and untreated. The condition is characterized by damage to the optic nerve that could potentially result in vision loss, often irreversible. Glaucoma becomes more prevalent with an aging population.

But recent studies have indicated that incorporating specific B vitamins into one’s diet may notably lower the likelihood of developing glaucoma. One such study published in Nature on April 12 looked into data from over 5,000 Americans aged 40 and older who participated in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES), a comprehensive population-based study in the United States.

Its focus was on exploring whether the daily consumption of B vitamins, including B1 (thiamine), B2 (riboflavin), B3 (niacin), B6 (pyridoxine), B12 (cobalamin) and the synthetic form of B9 (folic acid), could mitigate the risk of developing glaucoma.

The study authors from China found that the intake of vitamins B1 and B2 was associated with a decreased glaucoma among men. They also found that vitamin B2 showed a particularly notable effect, linked to a 28 percent reduction in glaucoma risk per one-milligram increase of riboflavin. “In our study, the relationship between vitamin B1, B2 intake, and self-reported glaucoma seemed more pronounced in males,” the researchers wrote.

In contrast, women did not observe the same glaucoma risk reduction with increased B vitamin intake. They further observed that in females, the association between vitamin B2 intake and glaucoma risk was non-linear– indicating a decrease in risk with higher intake. (Related: B vitamins are CRUCIAL to heart health, brain health and eye health.)

Ophthalmologist Dr. Alina Djougarian told the Epoch Times that the findings of the Nature study, which drew from the robust NHANES dataset and its substantial sample size, corroborated previous research linking B vitamins to a diminished risk of glaucoma.

Nevertheless, the eye doctor at Northwell Health in New York state, who was not involved in the study, emphasized the necessity for large-scale, prospective studies with extensive follow-up periods to elucidate the impact of B vitamin supplementation on glaucoma progression and its long-term effects on optic nerve health.

Long-term research needed to confirm efficacy of B vitamins for glaucoma treatment

Djougarian pointed out, however, that the dosages of B vitamins used in recent studies about glaucoma surpass the recommended daily limits – potentially posing toxicity hazards. “It is important to consult a physician before taking supplements,” she advised.

Meanwhile, ophthalmologist and glaucoma specialist Dr. Robert A. Honkanen highlighted the ambiguous nature of using vitamins for eye ailments, describing it as a “gray zone.” Despite certain vitamins being recommended to prevent macular degeneration, he stressed the absence of validated, long-term research confirming their efficacy for glaucoma treatment.

“While some vitamins possess antioxidant or neuroprotective properties, the definitive evidence supporting their benefits remains elusive,” explained the eye doctor at Stony Brook Medicine, also in New York state.

Given this uncertainty, Honkanen suggested exercising caution and seeking medical advice to mitigate the risk of overdosing, especially considering the potential effects on blood clotting associated with other vitamins, such as vitamin E. He also underscored the importance of a healthy lifestyle, comprising habits like refraining from smoking, regular physical activity, and maintaining a balanced diet, which has been demonstrated to lower the risk of glaucoma development.

Malfunctioning facial recognition technology may put innocent individuals at risk – NaturalNews.com

Malfunctioning facial recognition technology may put innocent individuals at risk

Government entities, including seven law enforcement agencies in the Department of Homeland Security and Department of Justicehave instituted the use of facial recognition to verify or ascertain someone’s identity using an algorithm that matches a human face from a digital image or a video frame against a database of faces.

However, the case of Harvey Eugene Murphy, Jr. is proof that flawed or misused facial recognition systems can put citizens at risk.

Murphy visited his home state of Texas to get his driver’s license renewed at the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles. Within minutes, he was approached by a police officer who notified him there was a warrant out for him. Murphy said he was not told any details about his supposed crime except for the date the robbery occurred.

“I almost thought it was a joke,” Murphy said. The 61-year-old grandfather was arrested for the armed robbery of a Sunglass Hut in Houston. Murphy’s alibi was that he was back home in California when the theft occurred.

In contrast to law enforcement’s fast action on their “suspected” thief, investigations were too slow. In fact, by the time the Harris County District Attorney’s Office figured he was nowhere in the robbery scene, three men had already sexually assaulted Murphy in a prison bathroom, leaving him with permanent injuries.

“Mr. Murphy’s story is troubling for every citizen in this country,” said Daniel Dutko, the lawyer representing Murphy. “Any person could be improperly charged with a crime based on error-prone facial recognition software, just as he was.”

Murphy’s case is the seventh known case of a wrongful arrest due to facial recognition in the U.S., further highlighting the flaws of a technology already widely adopted by police departments and some retailers.

The said technology is also being used by some British police forces, such as London’s Metropolitan Police. It was also used last year to watch crowds at the King’s Coronation, at a soccer match between Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur, a concert by singer Beyonce and during the F1 Grand Prix at Silverstone. (Related: British police secretly using U.K. passport database to conduct facial recognition searches.)

The civil liberties group Big Brother Watch said since the Met Police started using facial recognition tech, 85 percent of all matches identified by the system were wrong. In South Wales, 90 percent of matches were incorrect.

“We’ve [personally] witnessed people being wrongly stopped by the police because facial recognition misidentified them,” the group said in a report. Despite these disastrous figures, policing minister Chris Phelps wrote to police chiefs last October urging them to “double the number of [facial recognition] searches by May 2024, so they exceed 200,000 across England and Wales.”

“This dangerously authoritarian technology has the potential to turn populations into walking ID cards in a constant police lineup,” Big Brother Watch Director Silkie Carlo warned.

Consequently, when former British Prime Minister Tony Blair and House of Lords member William Hague jointly released a report in February last year calling for “a secure, private, decentralized digital-ID system,” the prime minister’s spokesman was able to say with a straight face: “There are no plans to introduce digital ID. Our position on physical ID cards remains unchanged. We are already carrying out work to enhance the digitalization of public services.”

Facial recognition is also coming to Canada

Ontario’s York and Peel regional police offices are now implementing a facial recognition system to utilize crime scene images for comparison with mugshots.

Both police agencies have engaged with the Information and Privacy Commission of Ontario to ensure compliance with best practices and privacy standards. Idemia Public Security was selected to provide biometric facial recognition software following the consultation.

To ensure the protection of individual privacy rights, the comparison of digital images will be conducted by the Identification of Criminals Act, which provides the legal framework for the collection and use of such images, authorities claimed.

The police services also stated that individuals whose mugshots and fingerprints have been collected by York Regional Police under the said act may request the destruction of these records.

“Partnering with Peel Regional Police is cost-effective and enables us to collaborate more extensively to make both communities safer,” says Jim MacSween, York Regional Police chief.

However, privacy considerations have been a critical issue in the adoption of biometric capture for law enforcement in the country. Controversy erupted when the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and other Canadian police forces were found to have used Clearview AI’s facial recognition technology, which scraped over three billion images from the internet without consent.

FutureTech.news has more stories on the dystopian measures of governments and law enforcement to surveil citizens.

Watch the video below that talks about government agencies that were caught lying about the facial recognition program.
