New Moon In Virgo: Efficiency & Practicality

We are having a New Moon in Virgo on September 17th. This is initiating a 29.5 day lunar cycle and new wave of energy for the coming month; however, the astrological configurations mentioned in this article will be more prominent over the following two weeks. This cycle will include a Full Moon in Aries on October 1st/2nd.

Virgo season began on August 22nd/23rd, nearly a month prior to this Lunation, and will end on September 22nd/23rd when Libra season begins. However, his New Moon will still carry some of its Virgo themes into the first eight days of Libra season prior to the Full Moon.

This is a good period of working with and co-creating with the energies of this sign. Virgo is associated with productivity, duties, service, health, cleanliness, and purity. It is organized, adaptable, conscientious, skillful, orderly, punctual, diligent, efficient, analytical, detailed, discerning, precise, and practical.

Virgo is about problem solving, adjusting to changing conditions, and coming up with solutions. Negatively, this energy can be cynical, fussy, high strung, and perfectionistic. It can also be exorbitantly mentally oriented as well as overly critical and discriminating.

Mars began its retrograde a week prior to this New Moon which will last until mid-November. This energy is a significant part of the current astrological backdrop. Generally it is a time that can ultimately help to facilitate a change in how we apply ourselves in certain areas of life, however, the retrograde period itself can bring frustrations and challenges that help with that process. You can read more about this Mars Retrograde here.

New Moon Trine Saturn & Quincunx Mars Retrograde

This New Moon is in a tight trine with Saturn in Capricorn which is transitioning out of its retrograde at the end of the month. This can be a good period for operating in a responsible, cautious, orderly, productive, realistic and practical way. However, considering that Saturn is finishing up its backwards motion, these next couple of weeks are generally better for getting things sorted out and prepared as well as perhaps focusing on tasks that you have already been working on.

It is possible that in late September and in early October, we can experience some sort of shift, or change in gears, that can take things into a different direction. Saturn will be in a square with Mars Retrograde at that time, and we may have to contend with limitations and obstacles that can affect how certain things move forward.

This New Moon is also in a quincunx with Mars retrograde which can reflect annoyances, tension, or conflicts that may require adjustments and adaptability. Issues that come up may be at odds with our needs or the way we want to express ourselves. This energy is the strongest on the 19th/20th but can also be more noticeable on the day of the New Moon.

New Moon Square Lunar Nodes, Mercury Square Jupiter

This New Moon is also in a close square to the North Node in Gemini opposing the South Node in Sagittarius. We may be at odds between the past (South Node) and the future (North Node), beliefs (Sagittarius) and facts (Gemini), our immediate aspects of life (Gemini) and the world at large (Sagittarius).

However, the focal point should be the North Node in Gemini and expressions of the South Node in Sagittarius energy should be serving that focal point and not be the emphasis. The rulers of the Nodes, Mercury (Gemini) and Jupiter (Sagittarius) are also in a tight square with each other at the time of this New Moon. This can reflect tension between these two sides and potentially conflicts between ideas, viewpoints, and opinions.

Jupiter is in the limiting Saturnian sign of Capricorn while Mercury is better placed in Libra, the sign of diplomacy, seeking common ground, considering different needs/perspectives, and fairness. Mercury square Jupiter can be good for learning but it can also be excessive when it comes to information and we can more easily be mentally scattered.

Mercury Quincunx Neptune, Then Square Pluto, Saturn & Opposing Mars

Mercury is in a quincunx with Neptune which is strongest on the 18th/19th. This energy makes it harder to integrate or juggle our intuitive, creative, imaginative, compassionate or spiritual expression with our mind, communication, tasks, and thought process. Issues pertaining to lack of boundaries, flakiness, delusion, escapism, intoxication, may come up.

Mercury moves towards a square with Pluto which is strongest on the 20th/21st. Our thoughts and communications can be deep, powerful, penetrating, investigative, raw, real, and potentially intense. This can also reflect obsessive or compulsive behavior, suspicion, fears, anxiety, or conflicts pertaining to power or authority.

Mercury then moves to a square with Saturn (22nd/23rd) followed by an opposition to Mars retrograde (23rd/24th), creating a t-square formation in that time period with the separating Pluto energy (20th/21st, mentioned above) tied into it a bit. This can be a time of obstacles, delays, communication issues, pessimism, and conflicts while we can get more easily irritated or angered. Circumstances may come up that can be pushing us to be more cautious, realistic, or responsible.

This period is the beginning of Mercury’s pre-shadow period in which it will be returning to another square with Saturn. Some of the issues or developments that occur at this time may be connected to things that will play out during the retrograde (October 13th/14th until November 3rd/4th) and weeks surrounding that period. It will also be the Equinox and therefore this energy is imprinted into the following three months in which it can manifest in other ways/areas separate from this initial period.

Making Intentions & Things To Consider

What can you do to be more practical, productive, and efficient? Is there anything you can or should implement to improve your health and functionality? What have the circumstances, developments, or challenges over the last week (leading up to this New Moon) shown you in how you should be applying yourself? Do you need to implement stronger boundaries? Do you need to be more adaptable? Are you clinging to the past or are you willing to take steps to help you grow? What aspects or details of your immediate life, surroundings, or relationships do you need to focus on more and what excesses or broad aspects of your life are getting in the way of that?

These are just some examples of what to consider or focus your intentions on at this time. However, it is good to reflect on anything else that is coming up for you. It is generally best to make any intentions within the first 24 hours following a New Moon. The exact moment it will occur is 11:00am Universal Time on September 17th. Mars Retrograde In Aries: Revising How We Apply Ourselves

The planet Mars is going retrograde on September 9th/10th and will last until November 13th/14th. This occurs every two years, with the previous one happening in the summer of 2018. Some of the themes of this retrograde could have started seeding since late July when the pre-retrograde shadow period began. In the weeks, and especially days, prior to the retrograde its energies and themes can become more obvious.

Retrograde periods are when a planet appears to be moving backwards in the sky due to its position around the Sun relative to Earth’s position. It is a period of re-working how we orientate ourselves with the energies of that specific planet, in the sign it is in, and how it interacts with our personal astrological blueprint (one’s natal chart). The most significant retrogrades are those of  the personal planets Mercury, Venus, and Mars.

Mars: Assertion, Willpower, Courage, Desires, Sex, Aggression, and Anger

Mars is a yang/male planet that is associated with how we apply action. When retrograde, its energies get amplified as it ends up being opposite the Sun and appears at its brightest when looking at the night sky. This is like the ‘Full Moon’ for Mars as it receives the most light from the Sun. It has already been gradually getting brighter in the months leading up to this.

During this retrograde, Mars themes will be highlighted and the circumstances ultimately can help us to facilitate some sort of adjustment in how we express the energies of this planet. This could influence we apply our energy, willpower, motivations, desires, and sexuality, as we all as how we deal with aggression and anger.

Mars is associated with assertiveness, masculinity, competing, fighting, war, muscles, vigor, sex, force, muscles, and physical energy in general. Issues or developments pertaining to these things can get cranked up over these coming months and we may also see more conflicts play out in the world.

This can be a time in which people can get more easily angered, irritated, and aggressive. There can be a build-up of inner tension which eventually can be expressed outwardly, sometimes in a passive-aggressive way.  If this applies to you, it would be wise to find a healthy way to release anger and ease tension in a way that is not harmful to you or the people in your life.

Some of the frustrations that occur at this time could be as a result of things not flowing smoothly and wasted efforts. If this happens to you, it would be good to consider that something needs to change with the way you are applying yourself and pay attention to signs from the Universe.

It is usually more probable that this occurs when taking new initiatives, but not in every case. If so, it may be better to revisit old tasks, projects, and efforts and you may find that doing this can be more productive. For many people, it can also be a good time to go more inward. However, this will not make you immune to all of its perceived negative effects which ultimately should help you in your personal development.

Mars Retrograde In Aries, Chiron Also In Aries

Mars will be in its home sign of Aries throughout the entirety of its retrograde. It has been there since late June (before the pre-retrograde shadow began) and will stay until January 6th/7th, eight weeks after the retrograde ends. Aries is an assertive sign and shares much of the same Mars themes mentioned earlier in the article, they are both hot and fiery energies.

Aries is forward, direct, pioneering, initiating, bold, quick, courageous, competitive, and antagonistic. It is associated with the self, individual needs, identity, independence, and leadership. As a fire sign, Aries is a passionate and active energy. It can also be combative, argumentative, impatient, impulsive, selfish, dominating, trigger happy, and one-pointed. The retrograde process itself is a time of recalibration in how we assert ourselves in these Aries ways of expression along with how it is configured with our individual natal charts.

However, with Aries being a very forward moving sign (which is what Mars is and likes) having its ruler moving backwards (or stationary) here can increase the potential of frustration and conflicts in comparison to when this is occurring in other signs. When experiencing this, it is a good idea to take a step back and try to look at the situation objectively. In many cases, the challenges that come up are there to show you that perhaps you need to take a different approach to something.

Chiron has also been in Aries since 2018 and will be there until 2027. This is a longer term period of healing, seeking wholeness, solutions, and the potential for empowerment connected to these Aries areas of life mentioned. This Mars retrograde is contributing to that process as well.

Mars Retrograde Square Saturn In Capricorn

As Mars begins its retrograde it will first return to a square with Saturn which will peak from September 25th to October 3rd. This can reflect obstacles and limitations that can be getting in our way. Our tasks may require extra patience and caution during this time.

We may be faced with resistance, scrutiny, or realism in how we assert ourselves. Aggressiveness could be met with resistance or the need to address anger issues may come up. Conflicts around boundaries or restrictions can play out. This is one of the more important periods of the retrograde that we can learn from. It can help to show us what we need to be doing differently, however, not every issue related to this energy will have that purpose.

Mars made its first exact square with Saturn (during pre-retrograde period) in late August. It is possible that we may see some correlations or developments happen in late September, and/or early October, that are connected to developments that occurred during the first square.

In the news, that was when the Kenosha police shooting of Jacob Blake occurred and it was when we started to see some supposed cases of Covid-19 reinfections discussed in the media. Also, during that period there were massive freedom/anti-lockdown rallies in London and Berlin which didn’t get much media attention.

During this specific square, Saturn will be stationary as it ends its retrograde on September 29th. This puts a strong exclamation mark on the themes mentioned in the above paragraphs. Over the following days and weeks (after September 29th) as Saturn begins to move forward, we can experience some sort of change in dynamics connected to Saturn ruled areas of responsibilities, commitments, duties, structures, and in other ways depending on how it correlates with your personal astrological blueprint. It is also possible to experience some sort of development connected to things that occurred in the first half of May or in early February.

Mars Square Pluto &  Jupiter In Capricorn

Following Mars’ square with Saturn, it then moves toward a square with Pluto which is also in Capricorn. This will peak from October 6th-12th, and interestingly similar to the square with Saturn, Pluto will also be stationary when squared by Mars as it will end its retrograde in the days prior on October 4th. This amplifies Pluto’s general themes in the weeks before and after the retrograde ends.

Pluto is associated with power, hidden matters, destruction, abuse, the underworld, subversion, obsessions, compulsive behavior, control, manipulation, jealousy, domination, shadows, darkness, purging, death, fear and viruses. Its energy is deep, transformative, evolutionary, sexual, intense, and regenerating. As Pluto begins to move forward, it is possible that there can be some developments and shifts connected to these things, however, since Mars is in a square with it, we can also expect conflicts connected to these Plutonian themes. .

Mars retrograde in Aries square stationary Pluto is one of the most intense astrological configurations that can happen between two planets and can also be expressed in a highly passionate way as well. Collectively and in geopolitical matters, some of the many issues that have been playing out in the world since spring can be intensified and we will also see different expressions of this energy unfold.

This Mars retrograde period and other happenings of 2020 are playing a significant part in the Pluto in Capricorn process which began in 2008 and will last until 2024. This is a long term period that is facilitating major changes that are ultimately seeding new things pertaining to structures around government, banking/finance, business  and power structures. I wrote an article about this back in 2017, you can click here to read it.

Mars then moves towards a square with Jupiter which is strong from October 17th – 22nd. This can play out as conflicts around beliefs, perspectives, opinions, ideals, judgements, media, education, teachers/gurus, or issues pertaining to foreign countries. During the period in which it is strong, the assertive, competitive, and combative energy of Mars can be more excessive. It can be a time in which actions can be misguided due to the overlooking of blindspots.

It is important to note that although the Mars’ aspects to Saturn, Pluto, and Jupiter are strongest in the periods mentioned, these energies are still present throughout the retrograde and in the post shadow period.

Mercury Going Retrograde At Peak of Mars Retrograde, Jupiter Conjunct Pluto As Mars Retrograde Ends

Mercury will be going retrograde on October 13th/14th, primarily in Scorpio yet also partially in Libra. This will be happening as Mars opposes the Sun which is the halfway point of its retrograde. At this time, and in the days surrounding those dates, the potentials of frustrations, conflicts, and fights will be higher. However, there are also some other nice aspects happening then which can be beneficial for certain relationships, spirituality, as well as idealistic and compassionate matters.

Jupiter is moving towards its third and final conjunction with Pluto, which will peak in mid-November, but is also triggered in mid-October due to the Sun and Mars in a square to the midpoint of these two planets. Considering this and the fact that Mercury will be primarily retrograde in Scorpio, this is an energy that can be further revealing of Plutonian issues of shadows, abuse, hidden matters, and darkness.

The first conjunction of Jupiter-Pluto happened in late March and early April, when there was a lot of conspiracy information coming out and also widespread fear which is associated with Pluto. It can also be transformative, empowering, and a time of tremendous growth depending on what we are doing. I will be writing a separate article on this upcoming retrograde, join my mailing list here to ensure that you receive it.

Another thing to note is that Mercury’s retrograde will be ending on November 3rd/4th, the same day as the US Presidential election. I would expect that there will be some issues with the votes, or other aspects of the election, that may take some more time to get clear on. There will probably be some sort of change in gears that week as well.

As Jupiter reaches its exact final conjunction with Pluto, Mars will also be finishing its retrograde at that time which all happens in the 2nd-3rd week of November. It is likely we will see some similar themes as late-March and early-April that I’ve mentioned in the two paragraphs prior to this one, yet this time the energy is more action oriented.

Considering Mars is stationary and changing motion we can expect to see some developments that could be a major ‘next step’, or perhaps some sort of conclusion to things that transpired throughout the retrograde. However, since Mars is returning to a square with Pluto, the energy can still be intense, destructive, and involve power struggles or fighting against abuse, authority, or dark agendas. This can also be a good energy to take on challenges, applying ourselves towards major changes, and assertive ourselves with tremendous focus and determination.

What To Reflect On During This Mars Retrograde?

Do you feel like you need to make adjustments in the way you project and assert yourself or your beliefs? How is the external world responding to you? Is there anything, or an approach to something, that you want to experiment with? What’s important for you as an individual? How do you go about fulfilling your personal needs or what do you need to do to satisfy them?

Do you have anger or aggression issues that you need to address? Are you competing or fighting for the sake of doing so, or are you doing it for good reasons? Do you have any past ideas or initiatives that you’ve been wanting to revisit or experiment with lately? Are you experiencing problems or conflicts pertaining to boundaries, and what do you need to do about it? Are there aspects of your sexuality or sexual relationships that are changing or you may feel like are due for a change?

These are some examples of what to reflect on during this time. The retrograde ends on November 13th/14th. From that point on until early January, we can experience a change in dynamics around some Mars related themes and expressions that have come up for adjustment during the retrograde period.

Full Moon In Pisces: Tension & Ideals

We are having a Full Moon in Pisces on September 1st/2nd, it will appear the fullest on night of the 1st in the Western and Central parts of the world. This is the peak of the Lunar cycle that began with a New Moon in Leo on August 18th/19th, as some of the themes mentioned in that article are still in effect.

The energies of a Full Moon are strongest in the days surrounding it yet its astrological configurations also play a part over the following two weeks. You may start to see its effects slowly build up after the New Moon prior to it.

Full Moons are a period in which we feel a push-pull between two opposing signs, in this case being the Moon in Pisces and the Sun in Virgo. It can play out as either a conflict, an integration, or some sort of dynamic playing out between the energies of both signs. The Moon reflects the expression of feeling and emotion while the Sun reflects the expression of ego and conscious self.

We may feel this opposition happening individually within us and/or we can also experience it play out around us with some people (or circumstances) expressing the Pisces side and others expressing the Virgo side. In some cases, Full Moons can also reflect/trigger some sort of change or release.

Full Moon In Pisces Conjunct Neptune Opposite Sun In Virgo

We have been in Virgo season since August 22nd/23rd which will continue until September 22nd/23rd. The transition into the productive sign of Virgo and out of fun loving Leo is one of the more noticeable changes of astrological seasons. In the Northern Hemisphere this is when we begin to see a more obvious cooling in temperature and we generally start to shift our focus and priorities in comparison to what they were in the previous months.

Virgo is an Earth sign ruled by Mercury. It is associated with tasks, duty, service, productivity, practicality, organizing, analyzing, perfection, physical health, cleanliness, sustainability, and purity. It is systematic, detailed, discerning, discriminating, diligent, and efficient. Virgo corresponds with problem solving, adjusting to changing conditions, and coming up with solutions. Negatively, Virgo energy can be cynical, overly critical, fussy, high strung, and too much in the head.

The Full Moon highlights and brings the energies of the opposing sign of Pisces into this Virgo backdrop. The Moon is also close to Neptune which is associated with Pisces (viewed as a modern ruler) and has the same energies, therefore increasing the same themes.

Pisces is a Water sign, although it is linked to Neptune, it is traditionally ruled by Jupiter. It is associated with sensitivity, compassion, empathy, spirituality, creativity, art, inspiration, dreams, imagination, oneness, and idealism. Pisces can be psychic, mystical, healing, and retreating. Negatively, this sign can also be unrealistic, flaky, elusive, delusional, and deceptive. It is associated with escapism and the intoxication of drugs/alcohol.

Full Moon In ‘Grand Trine Kite’ Pattern With Uranus & Jupiter

This Full Moon is in a tight sextile with Uranus in Taurus. Having this combined with Mars stationary (mentioned later in article), this can be a good time to experiment with different ways of how we apply ourselves. This aspect to Uranus brings an energy that is unusual, innovative, progressive, metaphysical, original, liberating, rebellious, or independent.

Jupiter (close to Pluto and Saturn) is also in the mix, turning the tight configuration between Uranus and the Sun-Moon/Neptune opposition into a ‘Grand Trine Kite’ pattern. The Sun, Jupiter, and Uranus are in Earth signs while the Moon (with Neptune) is in Water. This overall combination helps to harmonize the opposition of the Full Moon. This is good for combining practicality and tangibility with ideals, visions, creativity, imagination, inspiration, compassion, or spiritual efforts.

Mars Going Retrograde In Aries, Jupiter Going Direct

Mars in Aries is going retrograde in a week following this Full Moon as it is currency nearly stationary. It has entered its pre-retrograde shadow period in late July and has been gradually slowing down since. Currently as it is proceeding its change in motion we can notice its energies more strongly. We can more easily be angry, aggressive, impulsive, competitive, and impatient during this time.

Considering that Mars is almost at a stop in a square to Saturn, we may also experience frustrations, obstacles, delays, or limitations that can hinder our actions and the productivity potential of the strong emphasis of planets in Earth signs.

Over the next few weeks it can feel like a change of gears in specific areas of our life depending on how this energy corresponds with each of our personal astrological blueprints as laid out in our natal charts. I will be writing a separate article on this retrograde, you can join my mailing list here to ensure that you receive it.

Jupiter will be ending its current retrograde on September 12th/13th which began in mid-May. I don’t put much emphasis on the retrogrades of outer planets like Jupiter, however, its energies and themes become more significant during its change in motion and the weeks surrounding it.

Generally speaking, it can be connected to Jupiter ruled areas of beliefs, perspectives, philosophies, faith, travel, foreign countries, education, teachers/gurus, exploration, media, marketing, or anything that is expansive. We may also developments in an area of our life that can have a broadening effect. We can begin to have more clarity, experience developments, or see things differently around certain Jupiter themes or expressions that were highlighted sometime from mid-February to mid-May.

Venus In a T-Square With Mars & Saturn, Mercury In The Mix

Venus in Cancer is opposing Saturn in Capricorn very tightly at the time of this Full Moon. This can bring some seriousness, realism, limitations, inhibitions, obstacles, and perhaps some sort of reduction or endings around relationships, social dynamics, finances, value/s, aesthetics, or pleasures.

Venus then moves towards a square with a nearly stationary Mars over the following days, tying Saturn into it and forming a t-square between all three planets. This can play out as conflict, competitiveness, or tension in our relations. However, as we approach September 4th, the passionate, and creative potential of this energy can be expressed. Venus will also be in a sextile aspect with Mercury which can be socially stimulating.

Mercury in Virgo is also in a trine with Saturn which gets stronger later on September 2nd and into the 3rd. This can be good for thinking in a way that is practical, productive, constructive, orderly, achieving, focused, or tangible. Communications with others, or information we are consuming, may have these themes.

Things To Consider

How can you incorporate your ideals, originality, imagination, creativity, intuition, spirituality or spiritual modalities into your work, lifestyle, productivity, or tangible efforts?  Has anything new, unusual, or unconventional entered your life lately and do you feel the need to explore it more so? Does the amount of attention you give to your inner or spiritual self need to be rebalanced with the amount of attention you give to the mundane and external world? What frustrations have come for you lately and perhaps it is showing you that you need to be doing something differently?

These are just some examples of themes that could come up during this period; however, there may be other variations of this energy playing out as well.  If you wish to do any sort of intentional release connected to what has come up at this Full Moon, it is best to do so anytime over the two weeks following when it is waning. The exact moment of this Full Moon is at 5:22am Universal Time on September 3rd. You can click here to see what that is in your time zone.

New Moon In Leo: Shake Ups & Realizations

We are having a New Moon in Leo on August 18th/19th, depending on where you are located in the world. It is initiating a 29.5-day Lunar cycle, however, the astrological configurations mentioned in this article will be more prominent over the following two weeks. This cycle will include a Full Moon in Pisces on September 1st/2nd.

The Sun entered its home sign of Leo on July 22nd and will be there until August 22nd. This New Moon will highlight its energy more so and extend some of its themes beyond its regular month long season. As a Fire sign, Leo is associated with passion, instinct, inspiration, assertiveness, courage, confidence, and spirit.

Ruled by the Sun, Leo is about shining authentically, leadership, creativity, vitality, and heart ‘centredness.’ Its energy is fun, playful, affectionate, generous, courageous, and romantic. It is associated with children, performing arts, sports, and self-expression. Expressed negatively, Leo energy can also be egotistical, conceited, dramatic, overbearing, stubborn, hot tempered, jealous, and demanding of attention or respect.

New Moon Conjunct Mercury, Trine Mars, and Quincunx Saturn

This New Moon is in a conjunction with Mercury (also in Leo) while in a trine with Mars in Aries. This combination is assertive, active, communicative, mentally stimulating, passionate, and initiating. This New Moon also occurs a day and a half after Mercury’s Superior Conjunction which is when it begins to travel ahead of the Sun.

At this point we can have more clarity around matters that have transpired in the last few months. There can be a change or some sort of progress in relation to what has been playing out.  It can even result in a beginning or ending due to increased certainty around certain circumstances.

Our minds can be more aligned with our true needs and we can better implement whatever we have been thinking about with greater confidence and direction. For some people, there could have been significant developments on August 16th – 18th that reflected that.

Although we may feel more active considering the connection with Mars in Aries during this lunation, it’s good to take into consideration that Mars is in its pre-retrograde shadow period. Some of what is happening will be connected to an adjustment and recalibration process in how we assert ourselves in specific areas of our lives over the coming months during the retrograde and post-retrograde period. I will be writing a separate article specifically on this, you can join my mailing list here to ensure that you receive it.

This New Moon is in a tight quincunx with Saturn in Capricorn. This can reflect hindrances that require adjustments. Saturn here can represent limitations, restrictions, boundaries, or obstacles that are challenging to incorporate and need extra effort to adapt to. This energy was also configured to the previous Solar Eclipse and therefore is a part of the astrological backdrop until mid-Fall with this lunation highlighting it more so for these coming weeks.

Venus Sextile Uranus Which is Stationary Retrograde, Mars Square Saturn

Uranus went retrograde days before this New Moon and has been nearly stationary in recent weeks and into the upcoming weeks.  Whenever a planet is transitioning from one direction to another its energies become more noticeable. Uranus is associated with surprises, sudden changes, liberation, rebellion, science, technology, innovation, metaphysics, experimentation, accidents, upheaval, sudden disasters, or things breaking.

It will be retrograde until mid-January, and it’s possible that we will see some sort of conclusion or important development happen then connected to certain things playing out this month. However, the retrograde process itself isn’t as significant as the retrogrades of the closer planets (such as Mercury, Venus, and Mars) as Uranus is retrograde nearly half of the time which is the same for the other outer planets.

Venus in Cancer is in a supportive sextile with Uranus during this New Moon. This can be stimulating socially or romantically and can be good for doing unusual or unconventional activities. Our interactions with others can have positive surprises or interesting synchronicities. This combined with all the Leo energy can also be creatively inspiring. Aesthetic changes or renovations can be favorable and for some people this can also be a good time for financial developments or approaches that are unconventional, technological, metaphysical, or experimental.

Mars in Aries is moving towards a square with Saturn in Capricorn which will be strongest from August 21st-27th. This can be a time of frustrations and obstacles that can be getting in our way especially considering that Mars is slowing down to go retrograde next month. Our tasks may require extra patience and effort during this time. Aggressiveness could be met with resistance or the need to address anger issues may come up. This is a time of asserting ourselves in a more serious, cautious, or realistic way.

Lunar South Node Conjunct Galactic Center

The Lunar South Node is in an exact conjunction with the Galactic Center in Sagittarius at the time of this New Moon and in the following week. The South Node is about the past and can bring out negative qualities and energies of a sign, planet, or point that could be holding us back unless expressed in a way that collaborates with the opposing North Node.

The Lunar Nodes entered the Gemini-Sagittarius axis in May and will be there until January 2022. During this time, there is a push towards new expressions, or positive qualities, of Gemini while there is a need for changes around negative or outdated expressions of Sagittarius. There will be both collective and individual manifestations of this.

Gemini is associated with facts, information, intellect, communication, the immediate/local environment, different perspectives, and is a social sign. Sagittarius is about beliefs, philosophies, faith, religion, media, expansiveness, the big picture, higher education, teachers/gurus, travel, and international factors.

With the South Node in Sagittarius we need to be cautious of the negative potentials of this sign being expressed such as opinions over facts, idealism over reality, generalizations over specifics, as well as self-righteousness, exaggeration, and judgmental behavior. These are some of the themes of the astrological backdrop for the next year and half.

Now considering that the South Node is currently aligned with the Galactic Center, the most significant point in the sign (and constellation) of Sagittarius, we should take that into consideration for the month of August.

The Galactic Center signifies many of the Sagittarius themes mentioned yet in a more intense way. It is associated with higher consciousness and centralized aspects of society. The South Node here can highlight negative or faulty expressions of these things. Its energy can bring challenges, pressures, destructiveness and chaos in order to change what is outdated.

Making Intentions & Things To Consider

What realizations or developments have come up for you in recent days and how do they tie in with what has been playing out over the last few months? What are some potential solutions to help you tackle obstacles, limitations, or responsibilities that you are being faced with? Do you need to be more flexible, adaptable, cautious, or patient? Should you liberate yourself from something that is getting in the way of some of your goals? What areas of your life are calling for more of a heart centered or playful approach?  How can you express your individuality more authentically? Are your unwavering opinions or beliefs getting in the way of seeing things from different perspectives?

These are just some examples of what to consider or focus your intentions on at this time. However, it is good to reflect on anything else that is coming up for you. It is generally best to make any intentions within the first 24 hours following a New Moon. The exact moment it will occur is 2:42am Universal Time on August 19th which will be the night of the 18th for those in the Americas. You can click here to see what that is in your time zone.

Full Moon In Aquarius: Erratic Progression

We are having a Full Moon in Aquarius on August 3rd/4th, it will appear the fullest on night of the 2nd in Western North America. This is the peak of the Lunar cycle that began with a New Moon in Cancer on July 20th/21st, as some of the themes mentioned in that article are still in effect.

The energies of a Full Moon are strongest in the days surrounding it yet its astrological configurations also play a part over the following two weeks. You may start to see its effects slowly build up after the New Moon prior to it.

Full Moons are a period in which we feel a push-pull between two opposing signs, in this case being the Moon in Aquarius and the Sun in Leo. It can play out as either a conflict, an integration, or some sort of dynamic playing out between the energies of both signs. The Moon reflects the expression of feeling and emotion while the Sun reflects the expression of ego and conscious self.

We may feel this opposition happening individually within us and/or we can also experience it play out around us with some people (or circumstances) expressing the Aquarius side and others expressing the Leo side. In some cases, Full Moons can also reflect/trigger some sort of change or release.

Full Moon In Aquarius Opposite Sun In Leo

We have been in Leo season since July 22nd and will continue until August 22nd/23rd. This is the sign of self-expression, creativity, love, affection, children, courage, vitality, passion, leadership, generosity, and playfulness. Ruled by the Sun, it is also about shining in our power and being in alignment with what really lights us up and gets us excited.

The negative expressions of Leo can be egotistical, self-absorbed, authoritarian, dramatic, stubborn, jealous, and hot-tempered.  As it is associated with seeking praise and attention, it can be demanding of respect and be boisterous without considering or caring about how others respond to that.

The Full Moon highlights and brings the energies of the opposing sign of Aquarius into this Leo backdrop. This is the sign of friends, networks, social dynamics, the group, the team, humanity, and being in the best interest of the collective. Associated with Uranus, it can be unconventional, idealistic, innovative, progressive, original, inventive, technological, reforming, and even revolutionary.

Negatively, Aquarius can be overly detached, aloof, unemotional, and very invested in the mind at the expense of the heart. Traditionally ruled by Saturn, it can also be unyielding when it comes to the ideas and perspectives that it has already decided on.

Both Leo and Aquarius have some similarities. They are ‘Fixed’ signs and therefore can both be determined yet stubborn. They are also both associated with originality and authenticity. In Aquarius, this comes from its unconventional and innovative Uranian attributes while in Leo it comes from being inspired by its Solar heart centred self-expression.

Full Moon Square Uranus, Sextile Chiron

The Sun and Moon are in a T-square aspect with Uranus bringing its energy strongly into the equation. This planet is associated with Aquarius and viewed as a modern ruler of this sign, therefore it emphasizes some of the Aquarian themes mentioned above.

This can also reflect an energy that is disruptive, unpredictable, erratic, nonconforming, and rebellious. It can be hard to focus and more prone to sudden changes, accidents, loss, or separations. However, it can also reflect liberation, breakthroughs, excitement, and is a good time to shake things up and try new approaches to things.

This Full Moon is in a supportive sextile with Chiron which shares unorthodox and innovative qualities with Uranus. Chiron is also about bringing healing and wholeness to a situation and is associated with personal growth. It brings a potential for integration, learning, problem solving, finding solutions, purpose, and the elevation of consciousness.

Full Moon Sextile Mars, Squaring Jupiter & Pluto During Pre-Retrograde Shadow

The Sun-Moon opposition is in a harmonious aspect with Mars which can bring an active, asserting, energetic, sexual, or even a competitive or fighting energy. Mars is also in its own sign of Aries as it slows down to go retrograde on September 9th/10th. We will be experiencing a period of adjustments over the coming months in how we apply Mars in certain areas of our lives depending on our personal birth charts. Some of the things that are happening this month, leading up to it, will contribute to that process.

At the time of this Full Moon, Mars is also in a tight square with Jupiter which has been building up in the days prior. It also moves towards a square with Pluto over the following two weeks. We may overextend ourselves during this time or do things in an excessive, overconfident, compulsive or obsessive way.

Conflicts around beliefs, perspectives, hidden matters, or abuse can also arise. As we get closer to mid-August the energy becomes more intense with an increased potential of power struggles. This aspect can trigger passion and is good for strategic actions. All of these factors mentioned in this section are cranking up Mars energy overall. I will be writing a separate article on the upcoming retrograde as we get closer to it, join my mailing list here to ensure that you receive it.

Mercury & Venus In Hard Aspects With Saturn, Venus Conjunct North Node

Mercury is in a tight opposition with Saturn. This can reflect thoughts or conversations that are cautious, hesitant, pessimistic, or limiting. We may experience delays or obstacles around commuting or communications with others.  The need to be realistic around certain issues may also come up.

Like Mercury, Venus has social qualities and is also in a hard aspect with Saturn, this one being a frustrating quincunx. It can be hard to integrate or juggle Saturnian areas of responsibilities, commitments, boundaries, discipline, and structures with Venus areas of friendships, love, pleasures, sensuality, values, money, attraction, or other things that are aesthetic related. We may need to be extra adaptable or make adjustments.

Venus is also moving towards a conjunction with the Lunar North Node in Gemini in the days following this Full Moon. New relations, or developments around past relations, could have a fated quality that can bring growth and help us to move forward in a better or constructive way.  Our perception or approach to Venus ruled areas (mentioned in above paragraph) may evolve in a helpful manner.

Things To Consider

In what areas of your life should you try new approaches? What can you do to shake things up? What are some potential solutions for issues you are facing? How can you use your creativity in an innovative way? What are your relations with others pushing you towards? How can you be more of a team player? How can you better balance needs of self with the needs of the group?   What parts of your life are calling for originality and authenticity?

These are just some examples of themes that could come up during this period; however, there may be other variations of this energy playing out as well.  If you wish to do any sort of intentional release connected to what has come up at this Full Moon, it is best to do so anytime over the two weeks following when it is waning. The exact moment of this Full Moon is on August 3rd at 3:59pm Universal Time. You can click here to see what that is in your time zone.

New Moon In Cancer: Emotional Needs & Limitations

We are having a New Moon in Cancer on July 20th/21st, depending on where you are located in the world. This is initiating a 29.5-day Lunar cycle and a new wave of energy for the coming month, however, its themes will be strongest over the following 2 weeks. This cycle will peak with a Full Moon in Aquarius on August 3rd/4th.

This New Moon is the second consecutive one in Cancer, with the previous one being a Solar Eclipse on the Solstice a month earlier. This usually doesn’t happen unless the first one occurs at the beginning of a sign on the cusp. In that case the following New Moon will occur at the end of the sign, also on the cusp. This is because the Lunar Cycle is slightly shorter than the amount of days that the Sun is in a sign and therefore consecutive New Moons are gradually shifting to an earlier position of the next sign.

This is also the first regular lunation after three back to back eclipses, however, the energies of these previous eclipses will still play out over the coming months as part of the backdrop of the other astrological configurations. You can read more about them here if you haven’t already.

Mercury Retrograde (also in Cancer) recently ended on July 12th as we are in the post-shadow until July 26th along with Venus’ post-shadow concluding on July 29th. These recent months have been a time of adjustments in certain areas of life connected to these energies and now we are in the conclusion phase of this process. You can read more about these retrogrades here.

New Moon In Cancer Opposite Saturn In Capricorn

We have been in Cancer season for nearly a month, however, this New Moon is going to extend its themes into the following Leo season. As a water sign, Cancer is associated with emotion, feelings, and intuition. It is about nurturing, sensitivity, bonding, family, domestic life, security, comforts, and nostalgia. It is instinctual and protective yet can also be insecure, smothering, subjective, clingy, overly emotional, and attached to the past.

This New Moon tightly opposes Saturn in Capricorn which is close to Pluto and Jupiter. At worst, these coming weeks can be a period of obstacles, blocks, and limitations. We may feel inhibited or restrained in some way. However, this energy can push us to be realistic, disciplined, and cautious. Issues pertaining to power dynamics, hidden matters, obsessions, or shadow qualities may come up or may need to be dealt with. We may also experience a push-pull between responsibilities and emotional needs or perhaps a need to integrate both.

Jupiter Sextile Neptune, Mars Going Into Pre-Retrograde Shadow Period

Jupiter is making its 2nd of three exact sextiles to Neptune that are happening in 2020. This one is strongest from July 22nd-August 2nd. The first one happened in mid-late February and the final will be in October. This can be expansive, explorative, educational, and philosophical, towards creativity, art, or spirituality. This can also be a period of increased compassion and idealism, however, considering the Saturnian energy realism is also at play at this time.

Mars has been in its own sign Aries since June 27th/28th and will be there until January 6th/7th. Usually Mars is in a sign for approximately 2 months, however, it will be going retrograde from September until November which is why it will have an extended stay in its sign. It is currently slowing down and will enter its pre-retrograde shadow period five days following this New Moon.

Some of the themes of this upcoming retrograde can start to become seeded from July 25th onward. We may feel more driven or aggravated than usual and as we get closer to the retrograde itself, frustrations and conflicts can increase. Ultimately this process will help to create adjustments in how we express Mars/Aries energies such as assertiveness, action, initiation, drive, anger, aggressiveness, fighting, sexuality, and male energy.  I will be writing a separate article on this retrograde as we get closer to it, join my mailing list here to ensure that you receive it.

Comet ‘NEOWISE’ Reaching Closest Point To Earth

Many of you have probably heard by now of a comet named ‘NEOWISE’ which has been seen from Earth with the naked eye throughout much of July. It is predicted that it will be visible until at least July 25th but potentially up until mid-August. NEOWISE was discovered on March 27th, 2020 and will not reappear for another 6800 years. It is the brightest one since Hale-Bopp in 1996-1997 which was much brighter than this one.

In Astrology comets aren’t widely factored as much as planets or other heavenly bodies are. This is partially because most comets take thousands of years to reappear (due to their wide orbit) and modern day astronomers usually discover them shortly before they become visible to the naked eye. Due to this our knowledge of the effects of specific comets are limited or non-existent. With the exception of Halley’s Comet, we cannot foresee them coming (like we do planets) until they come closer to Earth and get picked up by telescopes or other equipment.

According to Rod Chang, ancient astrologers observed that some comets reflected major natural disasters, man-made complications/disorders, events triggering fear, or the death/fall of a monarch/leader in the year/s in which they appear. It has also been observed that comets coincide with release or liberation from some form of oppression as well as major innovations that have a big impact on the world. Much of this makes sense with everything that has been happening this year which has been reflective of other astrological energies as well.

NEOWISE is only visible from the Northern Hemisphere and can be seen shortly after Sunset, weather pending. It will reach its closest point to Earth on July 23rd, shortly after the New Moon when the sky is darkest due to lack of moonlight. Its peak visibility will occur while it is in the sign of Leo and will also cross over the star Regulus on July 25th/26th (not yet determined if it will be visible then). These factors could potentially reflect the fall or death of a leader/monarch as observed during past comets in history.

Making Intentions & Things To Consider

What changes have occurred recently around home, family, or other aspects of your domestic life, and how should you proceed going forward?  Do you feel the need to express more of your emotional side? What have these past few weeks shown you regarding your relationships and their dynamics? Are there any responsibilities or commitments that you need to address?

These are just some examples of what to consider or focus your intentions on at this time. However, it is good to reflect on anything else that is coming up for you. It is generally best to make any intentions within the first 24 hours following a New Moon. The exact moment it will occur is 5:33pm Universal Time on July 20th, or the 21st for those in the Eastern part of the world. You can click here to see what that is in your time zone.

Lunar Eclipse In Capricorn: Clearing Old Blockages

We are having a Full Moon Lunar Eclipse in Capricorn on July 5th in most of the world, and on the night of July 4th in the Americas. Similarly to the Full Moon that occurred a month prior, it will be a penumbral eclipse which only has a subtle shade on the Moon. It will be visible (weather permitting) wherever it will be nighttime in part or all of its duration. This includes most of North America, most of Africa, Western Europe, parts of Central Europe, New Zealand, and all of South America.

This is the third of three eclipses occurring back to back, with this one following a more powerful annular Solar Eclipse in Cancer during the recent Solstice and a penumbral Lunar Eclipse in Sagittarius on June 5th. This one is also the last of a series of Eclipses occurring in the Cancer-Capricorn axis which began in 2018. This specific eclipse season marks the transition into the Gemini-Sagittarius polarity.

Eclipses reflect evolutionary changes in specific areas of our lives which can play out over the following 6 months and can begin up to 6 weeks prior. However, they are also part of a 1.5-2 year process in which the Lunar Nodes and most Eclipses are in the same signs. The changes that occur are connected to the sign they are in, the planets they are configured to, and how this all lines up with our individual astrological blueprint.

Lunar Eclipse In Capricorn

This eclipse is the final one of a process in which we have been experiencing a collective recalibration in how Cancer and Capricorn energies are expressed. This slightly began in summer of 2018  but kicked in more strongly later that year and in 2019.

This eclipse puts an emphasis on Capricorn themes as it is near the South Node which has recently entered Sagittarius. This indicates changes associated with Capricorn that can have a decreasing effect in how its energies are expressed, however, negative expressions of this sign can also come up more so to bring it to our attention.

The shifts that could occur, both challenges and developments, are more about changes or what we need to let go of, in relation to the energies of Capricorn to help facilitate a different balance with Cancer. Capricorn energies and aspects of life can be more constructive when they are expressed towards a Cancerian focal point. The areas of life in which it manifests also depends on how it is interacting with your natal astrology chart/blueprint.

Capricorn is the sign of ambition, career, duty, business, achievement, responsibility, discipline, mastery, and authority. It can be calculated, strategic, practical, orderly, conservative, realistic, authoritative, controlling, cautious, and worldly. It is a social climber and concerned with status.  It is also associated with governing and banking structures with this eclipse opposing the Sun of the United States, similarly to 1982 and 2001 in the months before 9/11.

Negatively, Capricorn energy can be serious, cynical, cold, unrelenting, and seek power over others. It can be overly focused on work and/or materialism while creating an imbalance with emotional, personal and domestic areas of life which is where the focal point has been considering previous North Node eclipses in Cancer.

Lunar Eclipse Near Jupiter-Pluto Conjunction

Now and in recent weeks, Jupiter and Pluto (also in Capricorn) are in their second exact conjunction of 2020 which is strong until July 10th, but gets triggered by the Sun from July 13th-16th. However, this energy is a part of the backdrop until late in the year with this eclipse highlighting it as well.

As mentioned in previous articles, this energy can be revealing of hidden matters or perhaps issues connected to abuse, control, manipulation, obsessions, shadows, or power dynamics. However, it can also be a time of acquiring deeper perspectives and can have transformational potential as well. Considering that this is a South Node eclipse, it can be a time of releasing or changing negative qualities of this energy.

Saturn, the ruler of Capricorn, is not too far from these planets in the same sign. The combination of the three  (especially Saturn-Pluto) in close proximity reflects the heavy energy of 2020. Saturn brings a level of seriousness and minimizes the expansiveness of Jupiter with restrictions and limitations, especially as Saturn rules the sign that they are both in.

Lunar Eclipse Square Mars-Chiron, Trine Uranus, and Sextile Neptune

Mars in Aries is approaching Chiron which will be exact around July 13th and 14th. This is also in a T-square with the Full Moon Eclipse (and Mercury Retrograde) carrying its themes for an extended period. This reflects similar energy in the lunations of previous months.

Mars’ conjunction with Chiron (configured to the eclipse) can reflect action and assertiveness that is healing, integrating, bridging, whole-istic, unorthodox, and addressing wounds. With it being in Aries, it could be connected to identity, individualism, or  individuality. It can also be about addressing negative expressions of Mars such as anger, aggression, or abuse.

The square to Mars can play out as conflicts, competitiveness, and intensity. We have already been seeing this on a collective level as the eclipse a month prior was also in a square with Mars. In the following 5-6 month window of this current eclipse season, Mars will be going retrograde which reinforces the energy of these Mars flavoured eclipses.

This eclipse is in a trine with Uranus in Taurus which can be innovative, inspiring, original, revolutionary, rebellious, and good for shaking things up. It is also in a sextile with Neptune, although this isn’t too strong, it can be supportive in a compassionate, creative, spiritual, or idealistic way.

Mercury Retrograde, Venus in Post-Retrograde Shadow

Mercury has been retrograde since mid-June and will be going direct a week following this eclipse. It is in Cancer reflecting a time of adjustments and re-orientations around home/domestic life, family, security, land/property, emotional comforts, caregiving, and emotional connections with others. As it begins to move forward in the days after July 12th and over the following weeks, we may see that we are proceeding in an adjusted way around Cancerian matters or developments that have come up since early June.

Venus ended its retrograde on June 25th and we are now in a time in which we are progressing differently around Venus ruled areas that have been playing out since the first half of April.  It can be connected to relationships, love, values, social dynamics, desires, worth, aesthetics, art, or perhaps financial matters.

Things To Consider

What have been some of the major themes for you over the past 1.5 years and what are they leading you towards? What area(s) of life do you need to let go of negative ways of expression? differently? What aspects of your ambitions do you need to release? Where should you be applying yourself in a healing way? Are there fragmented parts of your life that should be integrated to bring more harmony into your life? How can you achieve this?

These are just some examples of what can be playing out for you but not limited to these either. Keep in mind that the themes of this specific eclipse will play out until the Fall. It is best to try to tune into this energy as it happens and pay attention to your feelings to help you in decisions you need to make in the future.

The two weeks following this eclipse can be a good time to initiate any sort of releasing process if you feel necessary. The eclipse begins at 3:07am Universal Time on July 5th with it peaking at 4:30am and finishing at 5:52am. The Moon begins to wane after 4:44am GMT. You can click here to see when the peak will be in your time zone.

Solstice ‘Ring Of Fire’ Solar Eclipse: Going Into New Territory

We are having a New Moon Solar Eclipse in Cancer which happens on June 21st and the night of the 20th in the Americas. It will be visible from most of Africa, most of Asia, parts of Europe, and Northern Australia. This is an annular eclipse, which is when the Moon almost completely blocks out the Sun, except for its outer edges.

It appears like this because the Moon is near its apogee, which is its furthest distance from the Earth. This type of eclipse is also referred to as a ‘Ring of Fire’ due to it appearing this way. However, from most of the listed locations you can only see it as a partial eclipse unless you are on its path.

A Solar Eclipse is a much more significant type of New Moon which influences a longer term period then a regular one. This is when it occurs near the Lunar Nodes, which is where the path of the Sun and Moon intersect from our perspective on Earth. This happens every six months, along with Full Moon Lunar Eclipses happening right before and/or after.

Two weeks prior to this we had a Lunar Eclipse in Sagittarius, and we will have another Lunar Eclipse (in Capricorn) two weeks following. Join my mailing list here to get my article on the next eclipse and other content that I put out..

Eclipses reflect changes and shifts which affect the six months following and could also influence up to six weeks prior. You may or may not see the effects of it around the time it occurs, but you may feel it and then see it actually play out in the weeks or months afterwards.

However, eclipses are in the same opposing signs for 1.5-2 years which is where the Lunar Nodes are for most of that period. Some of the themes that are playing out could last that long. We have been experiencing eclipses in Cancer since summer 2018 and this will be the final one of this series as we are transitioning into Gemini-Sagittarius eclipses which is where the nodes recently entered.

The positions of the Eclipses and the Lunar Nodes reflect an evolutionary process in how we work with the energies of these signs. What results from a series of eclipses in the same signs over these two year periods have longer-term effects beyond the window in which they occur in. .

Solstice Solar Eclipse in Cancer, Mercury Retrograde in the Same Sign

The peak of this eclipse occurs nine hours after the initiation of Cancer month which is the Summer Solstice in the Northern hemisphere and Winter Solstice in the South, initiating the new season. This is when the Sun is directly overhead the ‘Tropic of Cancer’ which is the most Northern Latitude it is able to align with.

This is a highly significant point in the zodiac and within the Sun-Earth relationship in which the Tropical Zodiac is based on. Different cultures and groups have acknowledged Solstices as a spiritually and naturally important time of the year. They have honored and celebrated it throughout history as well as in modern times.

The Solstice energy gets configured to this Solar Eclipse making it extra significant. The first degree (beginning) of a sign and especially season, is associated with going into new territory. Also, considering it is the longest day of the year in the North, in which the amount of daily Sunlight peaks, it can also reflect some sort of climax as well. The last time we had an Eclipse like this was on June 21st, 2001, months before 9/11.

Some of the shifts reflected in this Eclipse and previous ones in the last few years are connected to Cancerian energy. It is just over 1 degree away from the North Node which is on the other side of the cusp with Gemini. This indicates changes and developments that have an increasing effect on how Cancerian energies are expressed.

As a water sign, Cancer is emotional, intuitive, and feeling based. It is about security, nurturing, sensitivity, bonding, family, domestic life, comforts, patriotism, and nostalgia. It is instinctual and protective yet can also be vulnerable, insecure, smothering, overly subjective, clingy, hypersensitive, overprotective, and attached to the past. Mercury is also retrograde in Cancer which emphasizes the shifts around Cancerian themes now and over the coming months. You can read more about that here.

Solar Eclipse Quincunx Saturn, Square Chiron, and Sextile Uranus

This Eclipse is in a quincunx aspect with Saturn in Aquarius which can make it complicated to integrate these Saturnian and Cancerian energies. This can reflect hindrances that require adjustments. Saturn here can represent limitations, restrictions, boundaries, or obstacles that are challenging to incorporate and need extra effort to adapt to..

This Eclipse is also in a square with Chiron and sextile with Uranus. Chiron here can reflect a time in which personal or collective wounds come up and pain can get triggered. With it being in Aries, it could be connected to identity, individuality, or individualism, yet can play out in other ways as well. We may need to address aspects of ourselves, or the whole, that have been fragmented.

The key here is to facilitate healing by addressing things in a whole-istic way and applying unique solutions that may involve bringing together different factors or components of something. The sextile with Uranus can be supportive in a way that is innovative, inspiring, original, revolutionary,  rebellious, and desiring of change.

This energy with Chiron and Uranus will come up strongly from June 29th to July 2nd when the Sun and Mercury are making exact aspects to them. This will be a significant part of the current Mercury Retrograde process as it will be during its ‘inferior conjunction’.

Jupiter Conjunct Pluto, Aspected By Mars

Jupiter is also in an exact conjunction with Pluto which is strong from June 19th until July 10th. This is the 2nd of a series of three Jupiter-Pluto conjunctions happening this year. The first one began in the second half of March when it was strong until mid April and the 3rd (final) conjunction will be in November. However, this conjunction is still an important part of the backdrop throughout most of  2020.

This can bring hidden matters to light and it can be a time of acquiring deeper understandings and perspectives. Issues pertaining to abuse, control, power dynamics can surface. This combined with Mercury’s ‘inferior conjunction’ from June 30th to July 1st can also have a transformational theme for certain people.

Mars in a sextile with this conjunction during this eclipse and days prior. This is good for assertiveness or action that corresponds with this energy or in some sort of persuasive, overhauling, or significant way.

Venus Going Direct, Mars Square Lunar Nodes

On June 25th Venus ends its retrograde and goes stationary direct, and slowly begins to move forward over the following days. Now, and over the coming weeks, certain Venus related issues will progress in a revamped way. It could have to do with Venus areas of relationships, love, values, social dynamics, finances, creative/artistic interests, or things that are aesthetic related.

There will either be more clarity, a different perspective, or a change in gears around what has come up in recent months pertaining to Venus. This is especially so from when Mercury ends its retrograde in mid-July until they both end their post-retrograde shadows in late July.

As Venus starts to go direct, Mars is also in a square with the Lunar Nodes from June 25th-27th. This is reflective of the energy of the previous Lunar Eclipse in Sagittarius and it can trigger some of those themes. The square occurs while Mars is at the last degree of Pisces which is also the end of the entire zodiac before beginning anew in Aries, Mars’ home sign.

This can be a period in which we may feel like we are at a crossroads between the past and the future. This in combination with Venus’ change in motion can feel like a transition. Perhaps the need to leave something behind, tie up loose ends, or move on from something hindering us may come up now to help us proceed with where we truly want to go.

Things To Consider

Keep in mind that Solar Eclipses are different from regular New Moons and they are not necessarily a time to be making intentions. It is best to just try to tune into it, such as in meditation, and/or pay attention to your feelings. Perhaps whatever is coming up for at that time can help you navigate the upcoming months to serve you in your personal evolution. The themes of the Eclipse will be connected to Cancerian energies, however, it also depends on how it is interacting with your personal astrology chart based on the day and time of your birth.

Here are some suggestions of things that you can be considering at this time and over the following six months. How can you adapt to obstacles you are being faced with? In what areas of life should you be taking new and unique approaches? Are there any deep wounds being triggered for you? What can be done to help heal and/or change a situation in a positive way?

What are your relationships with others trying to show you? Are there developments in your life pushing you to be more caring or nurturing? What has been coming up in your home/domestic/family life and what changes can you make to improve a situation?

These are just some examples of themes that could come up during this period and over the coming months; however, there may be other variations of this energy playing out as well.  The Eclipse will peak at its maximum at 6:40am Universal Time and the exact moment of the New Moon will be just over a minute later. The eclipse process will begin and finish almost 2 hours before and after. You can click here to see when the peak is in your time zone.

Mercury Retrograde In Cancer: Remodeling Security

Mercury begins another retrograde process on June 18th which will last until July 12th. This one is occurring completely in Cancer. In the weeks (and especially days) leading up to it, it can already start to feel like a retrograde and some of its themes can get seeded. This is because Mercury slows down from our vantage point on Earth and travels in the part of sky it will be returning to after the retrograde begins. This is known as the ‘pre-shadow’ period which began on June 2nd.

This retrograde is happening during eclipse season. It follows a Lunar Eclipse in Sagittarius on June 5th/6th, it’s three days before a Solar Eclipse (also in Cancer), and then we’ll have another Lunar Eclipse (in Capricorn) on July 4th/5th. This retrograde also begins while Venus is in the last week of its retrograde

All of this happening in the same period indicates a time of readjustments and shifts in specific areas of our lives connected to these signs as well as how it all corresponds to our individual birth charts. You can read my latest Eclipse and Venus Retrograde articles here and join my mailing list to ensure that you receive my next eclipse article and other future content.

If you have read my previous Mercury Retrograde articles, the first two sections of this article are nearly the same and you can skip to the third section if you don’t want to re-read all the general themes associated with these periods. The other sections are more specific to this edition of it.

Mercury retrograde is known for the problematic effects it often has on communication technology, transactions, motor vehicles, anything with moving parts, and commuting in general. Some people even get headaches near the beginning of it. We could experience some challenges, misunderstandings, and errors around our communications, numbers/details, and commerce, as well as changes, cancellations, or delays in our schedules. We may also feel more challenged when we are excessively analytical without tuning into our internal guidance.

Mercury Retrograde can also be a good time to revisit or redo tasks, projects, ideas, or anything else that was initiated in the past. It can give us a different perspective or shift in thinking that can help us to approach these things in ways we wouldn’t have done before. This may also be a period of reconnecting with old friends, family, lovers, or others we haven’t seen in a while. When we reconnect with people during a retrograde, it can help to facilitate a shift in the relationship. In some cases, issues from the past can come up which may need to be hashed out.

The Deeper Purpose of Mercury Retrograde

Ultimately, Mercury Retrograde is a time for us to recalibrate and adjust specific areas of our lives as well as how we apply our minds towards these issues. It is a period in which we may receive important insights and see things in a new light. In most cases, it can be mildly transformational, but in some cases it can facilitate more major transformations depending on how it corresponds to your personal astrological chart.

During and following the retrograde, certain areas of our lives can go through changes or shifts, or we can experience a re-orientation of some sort which influences how we proceed over the coming months or in some cases, it can have a more long-term significance. In the three weeks afterwards, known as the ‘post-shadow’ period, we move forward with some sort of new awareness, adjustment, as well as new ideas and thoughts that have been seeded which will develop and become more defined as time progresses.

Certain things that have come up specifically in the two weeks leading up to the start of the retrograde could determine where this energy could play out. It is also possible that there could have been changes or developments at that time which may go through a sorting-out process or shift in dynamics during the actual retrograde and in the two weeks following. There could be unknown variables, either positive or negative, that were either unseen or hadn’t been conceived yet, which may become apparent over the coming month.

The sign(s) and element(s) in which Mercury retrograde travels in shows the energy we are re-orienting ourselves with. More importantly, if you are familiar with your natal astrology chart, then your house(s) or any planetary placements being affected will show more specifically which areas of life you will be experiencing its energy in. For the astrologically literate, it begins at 14’46 degrees of Cancer and will retrograde back to 5’30 degrees of the same sign before turning forward again.

Occurring In Cancer As Part of a Series in Water Signs

Mercury Retrograde always happens in primarily one element for 1-2 years. This is the fifth of a series occurring in water signs, with the final one happening in the Fall of 2020. The water element is about emotion, feelings, sensitivity, compassion, intuition, and fluidity. This period is about re-aligning ourselves with these qualities and expressing them in new or revamped ways.

This one is primarily a reorientation around Cancerian energies and themes which is about security, family, home/domestic life, comforts, maternal nature, nurturing, caregiving, empathy, bonding and emotional connections with others. It is also associated with nostalgia and holding on to memories, especially those that are comforting. Cancer energy is also instinctual and protective yet can also be easily offended, moody, manipulative, vulnerable, insecure, smothering, too subjective, clingy, overly emotional, and attached to the past.

Mercury Retrograde Significant Dates

Below are some of the dates and information for some of the major astrological configurations during this retrograde.

*The dates below are based on the Americas. The further East you are located, you may need to consider it as the next day.

June 17th/18th Mercury begins its retrograde at 4:59 am Universal Time (June 18th).

Mercury retrograde themes and complications may come up strongly at this time and in recent days leading up to this. You may get some sort of indication of the things that may be playing out for you over the next month based on how you feel or what transpires. It’s possible that certain things that happen at this time, which may seem insignificant, can somehow be connected to how this retrograde process will affect you.

June 21st Solar Eclipse In Cancer

This is a powerful annular eclipse happening on the Solstice and in the same sign as the retrograde, putting an exclamation mark on Cancerian themes. This will be the final of a series of eclipses in Cancer which have been occurring since summer 2018, yet its energies will reflect the following 6 months. I will be writing a separate article on this eclipse, join my mailing list here to ensure that you receive it.

June 25th Venus ends its retrograde and goes direct.

Venus has been retrograde in Cancer’s neighboring sign Gemini since mid-May with its themes beginning in April during its pre-shadow period. From this point onward we can begin to move forward in different ways pertaining to Venus areas such as love, relationships, values, social dynamics, finances, creative/artistic interests, or things that are aesthetic related.

However, with Mercury being the ruler of Venus’s current position in Gemini, and considering that the Mercury pre-retrograde shadow began during a significant period of Venus’ retrograde, it is possible that this Mercury retrograde (lasting until July 12th) can extend some of its themes. Both Mercury and Venus will conclude their post-retrograde shadow in late July and by that point things will have more clarity and forward momentum around certain issues that have been playing out since April.

June 29th-July 2nd Mercury Retrograde Conjunct the Sun in aspect with Uranus and Chiron, Jupiter also conjunct Pluto

This is the halfway point of Mercury retrograde, known as the ‘inferior conjunction,’ which is when it returns to the Sun. This can be a period of increased insights, and the themes or circumstances pertaining to how this retrograde is affecting you may come up more during this period.

Complications and frustrations can also be stronger at this time depending on your circumstances or how you are applying yourself. This may also be a period of ridding yourself of certain thoughts, ideas, perceptions, old interests, expectations, or other things that are not serving you while the potential for new ones may be seeded.

The aspects with Chiron and Uranus can reflect originality, inventiveness, and creativity. Communications, thoughts, and realizations can be stimulating and have themes that are holistic, bridging, healing, or pertaining to achieving wholeness. However, pains and issues connected to wounds and blockages can also come up.

Jupiter is also in an exact conjunction with Pluto which is peaking at this time, yet this energy has been prominent since June 19th until July 10th. This is the 2nd of a series of three Jupiter-Pluto conjunctions happening this year. The first one began in the second half of March when it was strong until mid April and the 3rd (final) conjunction will be in November.

This energy can bring hidden matters to light and it can be a time of acquiring deeper understandings and perspectives. Issues pertaining to abuse, control, power dynamics can surface. This combined with the inferior conjunction can also have a transformational theme for certain people.

July 4th/5th Lunar Eclipse In Capricorn

This will be the final eclipse in Capricorn as part of a series we’ve been experiencing for the last year and a half. The effects of this eclipse will also influence the following months. I will be writing a separate article on this. Join my mailing list here to ensure that you receive it.

July 7th-9th Mercury Retrograde square Mars

This can be one of the more annoying periods of this retrograde. Conflicts, arguments, irritability, and impatience can occur more easily during this time. We need to be a little extra cautious during this period to minimize the risk of saying things incorrectly or making impulsive decisions that we may regret later.

July 12th Mercury transitions from Retrograde to Direct

Mercury will slowly begin to move forward from July 12th onward. The areas of our lives that have been affected by this retrograde will start to become more clear and things will fall into place more easily as we progress into the coming days and weeks. As Mercury gradually picks up speed, we can move forward in the areas of life that have been affected. However, usually the first few days after it ends can still feel like its retrograde, as complications may occur due to Mercury’s stationary position. It’s usually best to wait until at least 3 days afterwards before finalizing decisions, agreements, etc.

Later on around August 17th/18th and/or in the days following, there may be even more clarity around certain things that have been seeded during this retrograde. From there, things may develop further with a better perception, or circumstances may indicate lack of sufficiency, not what was anticipated, or that something needs to change.
