Full Moon In Cancer: Contesting Thoughts & Feelings

We are having a Full Moon in Cancer on December 29th in the Americas and on the 30th elsewhere. It will appear the brightest on the night of the 29th for the majority of the world except for the countries furthest East. This is the peak of the Lunar cycle that began with a New Moon and Total Solar Eclipse In Sagittarius on December 14th/15th.

This Full Moon follows two back to back eclipses which will be affecting the period from this past November until this upcoming spring as part of the backdrop to all the other astrological energies happening. We also recently had a Grand Conjunction in Aquarius which will affect the next 20 years but especially this upcoming year as a time of seeding things pertaining to that energy. I recommend reading those articles here if you haven’t already. I also recently did a podcast here on Collective-Evolution talking about it as well.

The energies of a Full Moon are strongest in the days surrounding it yet its astrological configurations also play a part over the following two weeks. You may also start to see its themes slowly build up after the New Moon prior.

Full Moons are a period in which we feel a push-pull between two opposing signs, in this case being the Moon in Cancer and the Sun in Capricorn. It can play out as either a conflict, an integration, or some sort of dynamic playing out between the energies of both signs. The Moon reflects the expression of feeling and emotion while the Sun reflects the expression of ego and conscious self.

We may feel this opposition happening individually within us and/or we can also experience it play out around us with some people (or circumstances) expressing the Cancer side and others expressing the Capricorn side. In some cases, Full Moons can also reflect/trigger some sort of change or release.

Full Moon In Cancer Opposite Sun and Mercury In Capricorn

The Sun entered Capricorn on the December 21st Solstice as it always does as per the Tropical Zodiac. This is the sign of ambition, achieving, duties, career, productivity, and discipline. It is responsible, cautious, prudent, practical, orderly, masterful, worldly, business oriented, realistic, and a social climber. Capricorn can also be cold, narrow minded, controlling, pessimistic, cynical, and overly concerned with status.

The Full Moon will be highlighting its home sign of Cancer and will be bringing its themes into the equation while in opposition to the Sun in Capricorn. Cancer is the sign of family, domestic needs, security, emotional sensitivity, nurturing, and nostalgia. It is caring, personal, motherly, empathic, vulnerable, instinctual, intuitive and protective. Cancer can also be moody, clingy, insecure, as well as overly subjective.

Mercury is also involved in this configuration as it is in Capricorn near the Sun and will be opposing the Cancerian Moon. This can bring a theme of thoughts vs feelings or mental needs vs emotional needs. We may experience this conflict within ourselves and/or through our relations. If you experience this, the key will be to follow gut feelings.

Venus Square Neptune and Conjunct Lunar South Node

At the time of this Full Moon, Venus in Sagittarius is in a tight square with Neptune. Venus ruled areas such as friendships, love, pleasures, values, money, aesthetics, can be met with Neptune expressions such as confusion, lack of boundaries, illusions, delusion, fantasy, escapism, intoxication, or elusiveness. However, in some cases, this energy can also be highly romantic, creative, and bring a spiritual element into our interactions.

Venus is approaching the Lunar South Node as it will be exactly aligned on December 31st. We may need to release or change something pertaining to Venus ruled areas as mentioned above. Perhaps there are aspects of our social life, relations, how we spend money, or what we do for fun, that needs to be let go. It could also be tied into Sagittarian expressions/themes such as excessiveness, judgement, travel, foreign countries, idealism, beliefs, or opinions.

Mars Approaching End Of Post Retrograde Shadow, Changes Signs While In Hard Aspect

Mars has been in its home sign of Aries since late June due to it being retrograde from September 9th until November 13th. This has been an extended stay here as it is generally in a sign for two months. Its recent retrograde and following it has been a period of recalibrating how we assert ourselves, boundaries, individual needs, and perhaps even how we project our identity, in the areas of our lives that have been affected by it.

We have been in the final phase of this process since mid-November and will conclude on January 2nd/3rd.  At this point we should have had experiences to help us see what we need to be doing differently and how we should focus our efforts, yet more could still unfold in the week following this Full Moon.

Mars will be switching from Aries into Taurus on January 6th/7th and will be moving into a hard square with Saturn. There will be a shift in energy at this time which could bring about frustrations, restrictions, blocks, or obstacles then and over the following days. It would be best to approach things thoroughly, cautiously, patiently, and with practicality.

Things To Consider

In what ways do you need to balance career and ambitions with the needs of your personal life? Are your emotional attachments getting in the way of your productivity? Is your work getting in the way of your personal connections with others? Do you feel emotionally fulfilled, if not, what do you need to change? Do you have domestic responsibilities that you need to attend to? How can you approach your ambitions or career with greater care for others? What can you do to feel more secure?

What do you need to change or let go of when it comes to your social dynamics, friendships, love life, values, style, or finances? In what areas of your life have you been making more progress in over the last six weeks in comparison to the months prior to that? What is that showing you in how you should apply yourself going forward?

These are just some examples of themes that could come up during this period; however, there may be other variations of this energy playing out as well.  If you wish to do any sort of intentional release connected to what has come up at this Full Moon, it is best to do so anytime over the two weeks following when it is waning. The exact moment of this Full Moon is at 3:28am Universal Time on December 30th. You can click here to see what that is in your time zone.

The Great Conjunction In Aquarius: Entering A New Era

This text is taken from my previous Total Solar Eclipse in Sagittarius article.

A major Astrological event is happening on the December 21st Solstice which has long term implications. Jupiter and Saturn are aligned which is something that occurs every 20 years. It is referred to as ‘Great’ or ‘Grand’ because these are the largest planets with the biggest orbits that are visible with the naked eye. These qualities reflect how they have a strong long term influence on our society at large when they are in alignment.

Whenever there is a conjunction of any planets (or luminaries) it initiates a new cycle and ends a previous one. Similarly as when it is a New Moon, it is ending and beginning a cycle between the Sun and Moon. However, in this case we are not only beginning a new 20 year cycle but it is also solidifying a new era in which we will have Jupiter-Saturn cycles almost exclusively in Air signs for nearly 200 years, with the exception of a cycle in Scorpio in 2159.

The cycles of Jupiter and Saturn represent the coming together of structures and beliefs that influence how society functions, builds, and is systemized. However, it affects many aspects of society, even beyond that description.  In the last 200 year window we have been in an Earth period in which there has been more of a general focus on practicality, physical resources, routine, materialism, asset building, realism, regularity, and capitalism throughout society.

The Air period reflects more of a focus on innovation, ideas, intellect, the mind, reason, information, certain types of freedom, and social aspects of life. The internet, computing, and digital technology is very much connected to the Air element. In comparison to Earth, Air it can also be more inconsistent with change happening at faster rates.

We have actually been transitioning into the Air period since the early 80’s when we had the first Grand Conjunction in Air (in Libra) but then the following one was in Earth in the year 2000 (in Taurus). Therefore the last 40 years have been a transition from one to the other, and a blend of both.

Now as we approach the new cycle in Aquarius it will keep recurring in Air for the long haul over the next few centuries as we are currently fading out of the Earth period. This Aquarius cycle will put more of an emphasis on technology, community, equality, science, humanitarianism, progressiveness,  along with a blend of rationality and idealism. There can be pros and cons depending on your personal beliefs and preferences. Socialism and communism are very much Aquarian along with transhumanism, artificial intelligence (AI), and the merging of humans with computing technology.

Interestingly, the exact conjunction is occurring on the December 21st Solstice which is a very symbolic and potent time of the year for transitions. This conjunction will be happening right at the first degree of Aquarius which is also strongly reflective of new beginnings. Another interesting thing is that this is the closest conjunction of these planets in nearly 800 years which puts another exclamation mark on its significance and the symbolization of entering a new era.

Some people believe that we are now officially going into the Age of Aquarius which lasts for over 2000 years and is based on a larger precessional cycle. The exact beginning date of this age is a grey area and is something that is debated amongst astrologers as there can be different markers for the beginning and ending of it. Also, the observation of these 2000 year ages is something that has only been discussed for the last few hundred years in Western Astrology and is apparently absent in older astrological texts. Therefore this is not acknowledged widely within the astrological community as a whole.

Personally, it seems to me that there is some relevance to these 2000 year ages however it is still not totally clear. If these ages are a real thing, regardless of the actual start date, then we may be close to the cusp of the Aquarian age. Although the ages have nothing to do with the position of the planets, this Jupiter-Saturn conjunction can be reasonably theoretically seen as a planetary representation of the ushering in of the Aquarian age. But keep in mind this is all theoretical and the transitions from one age to the next lasts hundreds of years regardless. Either way, we are still entering a 20 year Aquarian period and solidifying an approximately 200 year Air period.

I recently had a discussion with CE founder Joe Martino about this conjunction on The Collective Evolution Podcast. You can listen to it here. (Below is a video clip)

Total Solar Eclipse In Sagittarius: Perception Changes

We are having a Total Solar Eclipse in Sagittarius on December 14th for the majority of the world and in the early hours of the 15th for Eastern Asia and Australia area. It will be visible from the majority of South America and from a small portion of Africa. The path of totality will cross over parts of Chile and Argentina which will be the only spots to see the full eclipse. All other areas of visibility will only see partial eclipses depending on their proximity to the eclipse path.

A Solar Eclipse is a much more significant type of New Moon which influences a longer term period then a regular one. This is when it occurs near the Lunar Nodes, which is where the path of the Sun and Moon intersect from our perspective on Earth. This happens every six months, along with Full Moon Lunar Eclipses happening prior or following.

Eclipses reflect changes, endings, beginnings, and evolutionary developments which affect the six months following and could also influence up to six weeks, and sometimes months, prior. You may or may not see the effects of it around the time it occurs, but you may feel it and then see it actually play out in the weeks or months afterwards. Two weeks before this one we also had a penumbral Lunar Eclipse in Gemini, and although it wasn’t as significant as this Solar Eclipse, it is still affecting this period and is a part of the astrological backdrop over the coming months.

Eclipses are in the same opposing signs generally for 1.5-2 years, in this case Gemini and Sagittarius, which is where the Lunar Nodes are for most of that period. Some of the themes that are playing out could last that long. This series began in spring 2020, when it  transitioned out of Cancer-Capricorn, and will last until spring 2022, as it transitions into Taurus-Scorpio.

This eclipse will be in the same part of the sky as an eclipse that occurred in December 2001 and it will be part of a series which also links it to another eclipse that occurred in December 2002. Therefore it is possible that you may see some similar themes or areas of life being affected now as it was from Fall 2001 until Spring 2003. It is also possible that things that occurred or were initiated then may experience its next chapter.

Also, in the months leading up to this eclipse, another comet had been discovered which is approaching its closest point in the days leading up to this eclipse. It is possible that it may be visible with the naked eye in some parts of the world during the eclipse period. Astrologically, comets seem to correlate with major complications, fear, the fall of a leader, but can also reflect release from oppression and major innovation. However, the astrological significance of a comet also depends on its level of visibility. Earlier in the year we experienced comet NEOWISE which was the most visible comet we have had in over 20 years.

There are also a few other interesting things to consider connected to the date of this eclipse. Firstly it will be occurring during a meteor shower. Meteor showers aren’t a rare thing as they happen annually multiple times a year, yet having this occur during a Total Solar Eclipse near the Galactic Center, with the potential of a visible comet, adds to the significance of this period as a time of major changes.

Another very interesting thing is that December 14th, 2020 is the halfway point between the ‘Great American Eclipse’ (Total Solar Eclipse in Leo) that occurred on August 21st, 2017 and the ‘Great North American Eclipse’ (Total Solar Eclipse In Aries) that will be happening on April 8th, 2024. On a geopolitical level, the 2017 eclipse coincided with President Trump’s first year in office along with all of the division that occurred as a result of his presidency and perpetuation of the media. Now this one is occurring during a likely transition of administrations and we will definitely also see major significant changes happening in the US in 2024.

Solar Eclipse In Sagittarius, Near Galactic Center

The shifts reflected by this eclipse are connected to Sagittarian themes and areas of life, ultimately leading to a revision in how its energies are expressed. It is near the Lunar South Node which in many cases could also indicate changes that have a decreasing effect on certain Sagittarius expressions and aspects of life. Again, this process is something that will play out for the following year and a half and began this past May.

Sagittarius is associated with travel, foreign lands/countries, exploration, experiences, higher education, teaching, beliefs, philosophies, morals, righteousness, religion, idealism, media, publishing, sales/marketing, and optimism. As a fire sign it is passionate and instinctual. Negatively, Sagittarius can be excessive, blunt, egoic, argumentative, overly opinionated, judgemental, preachy, unrealistic, disregarding of consequences, have a ‘know-it-all’ complex, as well as overlooking of details and facts.

Since the Lunar South Node had entered Sagittarius this past spring, its ruler Jupiter has been confined in Capricorn along with its ruler Saturn which is very inhibiting for Jupiter. Over the next year it will be mostly in Aquarius, again with its traditional ruler Saturn, which will also limit Jupiter’s expression while it is in Saturn’s other home sign. However, Jupiter in Aquarius isn’t as limiting as it being in Capricorn, and can be somewhat more freeing in comparison. Perhaps as a result we may see some Sagittarius/Jupiter areas of life be better expressed in 2021 in comparison to 2020.

This eclipse is also close to the Galactic Center. This point in the sky symbolically represents higher consciousness and centralized aspects of society. However, considering that this is a South Node eclipse, it can highlight the negative or faulty expressions of these things. The energy of the Galactic Center can also bring challenges, pressures, destructiveness and chaos in order to change what is outdated.

Solar Eclipse Conjunct Mercury At The South Node, Trine Mars, & Square Neptune

This eclipse is close to Mercury which is also in Sagittarius and in a tight conjunction with the Lunar South Node. This can reflect the need to let go of or decrease something pertaining to Mercury ruled/related areas of life.

It could have something to do with communication, certain mental pursuits/expressions/patterns, thought processes, a perception, commuting/transport, commerce, siblings/cousins, neighbors, nervousness, gossip, or some sort of coordination. This can be tied into Sagittarian themes as mentioned above. Considering that Mercury is the ruler of the Lunar North Node in Gemini, issues from the past can also come up to ultimately be resolved or move on from.

The eclipse, and Mercury even more so, are in a trine with Mars which is in Aries, another Fire Sign. Mars is also currently in its post retrograde shadow until early January as it ended its retrograde in mid-November. The potentials of changes, decrease, or release pertaining to Mercury and Sagittarius themes can support how we are moving forward in regards to how we assert ourselves, individual needs, and/or how we apply our fighting nature, anger, aggression, or sexuality.

This combination could reflect a more energetic and active period, however, the eclipse is also in square to Neptune in Pisces. All of this mutable energy (Sagittarius, Pisces) can make things very scattered as well. The square to Neptune can also bring confusion, lack of clarity, deception, delusion, escapism, or issues around addiction, illness, intoxication, or lack of boundaries.

The Great Conjunction In Aquarius, Shift From Earth Era To Air Era

A major astrological event will be happening this month which has long term implications. This is the ‘Great Conjunction’ occurring in Aquarius, which is also referred to as the ‘Grand Conjunction’. This is when Jupiter and Saturn are aligned which is something that occurs every 20 years.

However, in this case we are not only beginning a new 20 year cycle but it is also initiating a new era in which we will have Jupiter-Saturn cycles almost exclusively in Air signs for nearly 200 years, with the exception of a cycle in Scorpio in 2159.

The cycles of Jupiter and Saturn represent the coming together of structures and beliefs that influence how society functions, builds, and is systemized. Things To Consider

Keep in mind that Solar Eclipses are different from regular New Moons and they are not necessarily a time to be making intentions. It is best to just try to tune into it, such as in meditation, and/or pay attention to your feelings. Perhaps whatever is coming up for at that time can help you navigate the upcoming months to serve you in your personal evolution. The themes of the Eclipse will be connected to Sagittarian energies, however, it also depends on how it is interacting with your personal astrology chart based on the day and time of your birth.

Here are some suggestions of things that you can be considering at this time and over the following six months. Are any of your beliefs, opinions, judgements, or righteous behavior creating complications for you and/or do they perhaps need to be revisited, revised, or released? Is there something about the way you communicate or think in certain areas of life that need to be changed or let go of? Should you revise your educational focus/pursuits or alter your approach to learning/teaching?

Do you see a connection between this period and what was occurring from mid 2001-mid 2003? If so, was there some aspect of your life that became initiated or developed then which is now up for release or revision? What can you do to make your life more compatible with an increasingly digital, computerized, intellectual, technological, internet centered, communal, progressive, and idealistic world?

These are just some examples of themes that could come up during this period and over the coming months; however, there may be other variations of this energy playing out as well.  The Eclipse will peak and reach totality at 4:13pm Universal Time on December 14th. The exact moment of the New Moon will be 4:17pm. The eclipse process will begin and finish almost 2 hours and 40 minutes before and after. You can click here to see when the peak is in your time zone.

Full Moon In Aquarius: Erratic Progression

We are having a Full Moon in Aquarius on August 3rd/4th, it will appear the fullest on night of the 2nd in Western North America. This is the peak of the Lunar cycle that began with a New Moon in Cancer on July 20th/21st, as some of the themes mentioned in that article are still in effect.

The energies of a Full Moon are strongest in the days surrounding it yet its astrological configurations also play a part over the following two weeks. You may start to see its effects slowly build up after the New Moon prior to it.

Full Moons are a period in which we feel a push-pull between two opposing signs, in this case being the Moon in Aquarius and the Sun in Leo. It can play out as either a conflict, an integration, or some sort of dynamic playing out between the energies of both signs. The Moon reflects the expression of feeling and emotion while the Sun reflects the expression of ego and conscious self.

We may feel this opposition happening individually within us and/or we can also experience it play out around us with some people (or circumstances) expressing the Aquarius side and others expressing the Leo side. In some cases, Full Moons can also reflect/trigger some sort of change or release.

Full Moon In Aquarius Opposite Sun In Leo

We have been in Leo season since July 22nd and will continue until August 22nd/23rd. This is the sign of self-expression, creativity, love, affection, children, courage, vitality, passion, leadership, generosity, and playfulness. Ruled by the Sun, it is also about shining in our power and being in alignment with what really lights us up and gets us excited.

The negative expressions of Leo can be egotistical, self-absorbed, authoritarian, dramatic, stubborn, jealous, and hot-tempered.  As it is associated with seeking praise and attention, it can be demanding of respect and be boisterous without considering or caring about how others respond to that.

The Full Moon highlights and brings the energies of the opposing sign of Aquarius into this Leo backdrop. This is the sign of friends, networks, social dynamics, the group, the team, humanity, and being in the best interest of the collective. Associated with Uranus, it can be unconventional, idealistic, innovative, progressive, original, inventive, technological, reforming, and even revolutionary.

Negatively, Aquarius can be overly detached, aloof, unemotional, and very invested in the mind at the expense of the heart. Traditionally ruled by Saturn, it can also be unyielding when it comes to the ideas and perspectives that it has already decided on.

Both Leo and Aquarius have some similarities. They are ‘Fixed’ signs and therefore can both be determined yet stubborn. They are also both associated with originality and authenticity. In Aquarius, this comes from its unconventional and innovative Uranian attributes while in Leo it comes from being inspired by its Solar heart centred self-expression.

Full Moon Square Uranus, Sextile Chiron

The Sun and Moon are in a T-square aspect with Uranus bringing its energy strongly into the equation. This planet is associated with Aquarius and viewed as a modern ruler of this sign, therefore it emphasizes some of the Aquarian themes mentioned above.

This can also reflect an energy that is disruptive, unpredictable, erratic, nonconforming, and rebellious. It can be hard to focus and more prone to sudden changes, accidents, loss, or separations. However, it can also reflect liberation, breakthroughs, excitement, and is a good time to shake things up and try new approaches to things.

This Full Moon is in a supportive sextile with Chiron which shares unorthodox and innovative qualities with Uranus. Chiron is also about bringing healing and wholeness to a situation and is associated with personal growth. It brings a potential for integration, learning, problem solving, finding solutions, purpose, and the elevation of consciousness.

Full Moon Sextile Mars, Squaring Jupiter & Pluto During Pre-Retrograde Shadow

The Sun-Moon opposition is in a harmonious aspect with Mars which can bring an active, asserting, energetic, sexual, or even a competitive or fighting energy. Mars is also in its own sign of Aries as it slows down to go retrograde on September 9th/10th. We will be experiencing a period of adjustments over the coming months in how we apply Mars in certain areas of our lives depending on our personal birth charts. Some of the things that are happening this month, leading up to it, will contribute to that process.

At the time of this Full Moon, Mars is also in a tight square with Jupiter which has been building up in the days prior. It also moves towards a square with Pluto over the following two weeks. We may overextend ourselves during this time or do things in an excessive, overconfident, compulsive or obsessive way.

Conflicts around beliefs, perspectives, hidden matters, or abuse can also arise. As we get closer to mid-August the energy becomes more intense with an increased potential of power struggles. This aspect can trigger passion and is good for strategic actions. All of these factors mentioned in this section are cranking up Mars energy overall. I will be writing a separate article on the upcoming retrograde as we get closer to it, join my mailing list here to ensure that you receive it.

Mercury & Venus In Hard Aspects With Saturn, Venus Conjunct North Node

Mercury is in a tight opposition with Saturn. This can reflect thoughts or conversations that are cautious, hesitant, pessimistic, or limiting. We may experience delays or obstacles around commuting or communications with others.  The need to be realistic around certain issues may also come up.

Like Mercury, Venus has social qualities and is also in a hard aspect with Saturn, this one being a frustrating quincunx. It can be hard to integrate or juggle Saturnian areas of responsibilities, commitments, boundaries, discipline, and structures with Venus areas of friendships, love, pleasures, sensuality, values, money, attraction, or other things that are aesthetic related. We may need to be extra adaptable or make adjustments.

Venus is also moving towards a conjunction with the Lunar North Node in Gemini in the days following this Full Moon. New relations, or developments around past relations, could have a fated quality that can bring growth and help us to move forward in a better or constructive way.  Our perception or approach to Venus ruled areas (mentioned in above paragraph) may evolve in a helpful manner.

Things To Consider

In what areas of your life should you try new approaches? What can you do to shake things up? What are some potential solutions for issues you are facing? How can you use your creativity in an innovative way? What are your relations with others pushing you towards? How can you be more of a team player? How can you better balance needs of self with the needs of the group?   What parts of your life are calling for originality and authenticity?

These are just some examples of themes that could come up during this period; however, there may be other variations of this energy playing out as well.  If you wish to do any sort of intentional release connected to what has come up at this Full Moon, it is best to do so anytime over the two weeks following when it is waning. The exact moment of this Full Moon is on August 3rd at 3:59pm Universal Time. You can click here to see what that is in your time zone.

Mercury Retrograde In Pisces & Aquarius: Contemplating Ideals

Mercury begins its latest retrograde process on February 16th/17th , which will last until March 9th/10th. In the weeks (and especially days) leading up to it we start to notice its influence as Mercury slows down and comes to a stop before moving the other way. This is part of the ‘pre-shadow’ period which began on February 2nd.

If you have read my previous Mercury retrograde articles, the first two sections of this article are nearly the same and you can skip to the third section if you don’t want to re-read all the general themes associated with these periods. The other sections are more specific to this edition of it.

Mercury retrograde is known for the problematic effects it often has on communication technology, transactions, motor vehicles, anything with moving parts, and commuting in general. Some people even get headaches near the beginning of it. We could experience some challenges, misunderstandings, and errors around our communications, numbers/details, and commerce, as well as changes, cancellations, or delays in our schedules. We may also feel more challenged when we are doing excessive analytical work without using our internal guidance.

Mercury Retrograde can also be a good time to revisit or redo tasks, projects, ideas, or anything else that was initiated in the past. It can give us a different perspective or shift in thinking that can help us to approach these things in ways we wouldn’t have done before. This may also be a period of reconnecting with old friends, family, lovers, or others we haven’t seen in a while. When we reconnect with people during a retrograde, it can help to facilitate a shift in the relationship. In some cases, issues from the past can come up which may need to be hashed out.

The Deeper Purpose of Mercury Retrograde

Ultimately, Mercury Retrograde is a time for us to recalibrate and adjust specific areas of our lives as well as how we apply our minds towards these issues. It is a period in which we may receive important insights and see things in a new light. In most cases, it can be mildly transformational, but in some cases it can facilitate more major transformations depending on how it corresponds to your personal astrological chart.

During and following the retrograde, certain areas of our lives can go through changes or shifts, or we can experience a re-orientation of some sort which influences how we proceed over the coming months or in some cases, it can have a more long-term significance. In the three weeks afterwards, known as the ‘post-shadow’ period, we move forward with some sort of new awareness, adjustment, as well as new ideas and thoughts that have been seeded which will develop and become more defined as time progresses.

The things that you have been doing or circumstances in the two weeks leading up to this period could determine how and where this energy plays out. It is also possible that there could have been changes or things that came up at that time which may go through a sorting-out process. There could have been unknown variables, either positive or negative, that were either unseen or hadn’t been conceived yet, which may become apparent over the coming weeks.

The sign(s) and element(s) in which Mercury retrograde travels shows the energy we are re-orienting ourselves with. More importantly, if you are familiar with your natal astrology chart, then your house(s) or any planetary placements being affected will show more specifically what areas of life you will be experiencing its energy in. For the astrologically literate, it begins at 12’53 degrees of Pisces and will retrograde all the way to 28’13 degrees of Aquarius, before turning forward again.

Occurring Mostly In Pisces and Partially In Aquarius, Part of a Series in Water Signs

Mercury Retrograde always happens in primarily one element for 1-2 years. This is the fourth of a series occurring in water signs, with the final one happening in the Fall of 2020. The water element is about emotion, feelings, sensitivity, compassion, intuition, and fluidity. This period is about re-aligning ourselves with these qualities and expressing them in new or revamped ways.

This one is primarily a reorientation around Piscean energies and themes. This sign is mystical, spiritual, divinely inspired, imaginative, idealistic, healing, compassionate, and empathic. Pisces is about the subconscious, dreams, faith, and oneness. It is also associated with large bodies of water and creative outlets such as visual media, music, and poetry.

Negatively, Pisces energy can be delusional, flaky, forgetful, deceptive, evasive, confusing, and can lack direction and understanding of boundaries. Escapism and intoxication are also potential Pisces shadows that could come up during this period.

This retrograde is also partially in Aquarius, and although the Pisces themes are stronger at this time, the qualities of Aquarius can be tied into this period as well. This sign is associated with friends, social networks, the group, the team, humanity, ideals, and what is in the best interest of the collective.

Aquarius is intellectual, objective, and rational. It can be unconventional, innovative, original, inventive, progressive, technological, scientific, reforming, and even revolutionary. Negatively, it is be overly detached, aloof, unemotional, and stubborn about ideas.

Mercury Retrograde Significant Dates

Below are some of the dates and information for some of the major astrological configurations during this retrograde.

*The dates below are based on the Americas. The further East you are located, you may need to consider it as the next day.

Feb 16th-17th Mercury begins its retrograde at 12:54 am Universal Time. Mercury retrograde themes and complications may come up strongly at this time and in recent days leading up to this. You may get some sort of indication of the things that may be playing out for you over the next month based on how you feel or what transpires. It’s possible that things that happen, which may seem insignificant at the time, can somehow be connected to how this retrograde process will affect you.

Feb 19th-20th (Feb 14th-26th) Jupiter Sextile Neptune.  Jupiter in Capricorn is moving towards its first of three sextiles to Neptune in Pisces happening in 2020. This one is strongest from February 14th-26th with it peaking on the 19th and 20th.  This energy accentuates all the Pisces energy that is already occurring.  It can also be expansive, explorative, and ambitious in a creative, spiritual, idealistic, or compassionate way.

Feb 24th-26th Mercury Retrograde Conjunct the Sun in Pisces (Inferior Conjunction), Sextile Mars Conjunct The South Node. This is the halfway point of Mercury retrograde, known as the ‘inferior conjunction,’ which is when it returns to the Sun. This can be a period of increased insights, and the themes or circumstances pertaining to how this retrograde is affecting you may come up more during this period.

Complications and frustrations can also be stronger at this time depending on your circumstances or how you are applying yourself. This may also be a period of ridding yourself of certain thoughts, ideas, perceptions, old interests, expectations, or other things that are not serving you while the potential for new ones may be seeded.

Mars on the South Node may also reflect other types of purging as well. For some people this can be a period of needing to let go of negative expressions of Mars that can be holding us back. This may be connected to anger, aggression, force, competitiveness, or aspects of our sexual behavior or relationships.

March 4th Mercury Retrograde enters Aquarius. As Mercury changes signs, it’s possible that issues pertaining to Aquarius themes (mentioned in previous section) and other areas of life (depending on your natal chart) may come up more strongly in comparison to the previous weeks.

March 9th-12th Mercury transitions from Retrograde to Direct during the Full Moon in Virgo. Mercury will slowly begin to move forward from March 10th onward. The areas of our lives that have been affected by this retrograde will start to become more clear and things will fall into place more easily as we progress into the coming days and weeks. As Mercury gradually picks up speed, we can move forward in the areas of life that have been affected. However, usually the first few days after it ends can still feel like its retrograde, as complications may occur due to Mercury’s stationary position. It’s usually best to wait until at least 3 days afterwards before finalizing decisions, agreements, etc.

A Full Moon in Virgo will also be occurring on March 9th as Mercury transitions, aspecting four planets in Capricorn. With strong Earth energy combined with the direct motion of Mercury, we may feel more productive at this time in comparison to the previous weeks. (I will be writing a separate article on this Full Moon, you can join my mailing list here to get notified when this and other content of mine is published.)

Later on around May 4th and/or in the days following, there may be even more clarity around certain things that have been seeded during this retrograde. From there, things may develop further with a better perception, or circumstances may indicate lack of sufficiency, not what was anticipated, or that something needs to change.

New Moon In Aquarius: Changing It Up

We are having a New Moon in Aquarius on January 24th in the West and on the 25th in the East. This is initiating a new 29.5-day lunar cycle and new wave of energy for the coming month. However, the astrological configurations mentioned in this article will be more prominent over the coming two weeks. This cycle will include a Full Moon in Leo on February 8th/9th.

This New Moon follows an eclipse period and it’s good to keep in mind that the energies of these last two eclipses are still playing out in the background currently and over the coming months. You can read more about them here.

The Aquarius season began on January 20th/21st with Mercury also in this sign since January 16th. However, this New Moon accentuates its energies even more. Aquarius is associated with friends, social networks, the group, the team, humanity, and what is in the best interest of the collective.

It is intellectual, objective, and can be rational yet idealistic at the same time.  Associated with Uranus, it can be unconventional, innovative, original, inventive, progressive, technological, scientific, reforming, and even revolutionary.

Negatively, Aquarius can be overly detached, aloof, unemotional, and very invested in the mind at the expense of the heart. Traditionally ruled by Saturn, it can also be unyielding when it comes to the ideas and perspectives that it has already decided on.

New Moon Square Uranus and Sextile Chiron

This New Moon is in a square with Uranus which recently ended its retrograde a few weeks prior. There can be some surprises, liberating actions, or the start of moving forward in a freeing, innovative, unique, or unconventional way. Alternatively, we may strongly feel the desire to make changes at this time but may not follow through just yet.

This energy can be erratic and may also manifest as disruptions, separation, accidents, rebellion, or even things breaking. Developments pertaining to technology, innovation, and new approaches can also play out.

The New Moon is also in a sextile to Chiron which can reinforce the originality of Uranus/Aquarius. This can reflect themes connected to healing, bridging, spirituality, wholeness, and/or holistic understanding and approaches. This aspect and the Uranus influence mentioned may have also been noticeable in the few days leading up to this lunation.

New Moon Conjunct Mercury Sextile Mars

This New Moon is applying a conjunction to Mercury, also in Aquarius, which are all in a sextile with Mars in Sagittarius. Our minds and communications may be more energetic than usual. We may be more alert and direct in what we say and what we are thinking.

This can be good for applying ourselves in an educational way. Learning or conversations that are oriented around the big picture, sales/marketing, or connected to performing tasks may also play out. This can also be reflected in keeping busy, moving around more, or lots of commuting.

Venus Square Mars With Neptune in The Mix

Venus is in Pisces and is moving towards a conjunction with Neptune and square with Mars which is exact on January 26th-27th. At its best this energy can be creative, passionate, imaginative, inspiring, and romantic. Actions can be selfless and compassionate.

However issues and conflicts can also come up pertaining to escapism, unreliability, delusion, addiction, values, relationships, social dynamics, lack of boundaries, elusiveness, ideals, spirituality, fantasy, and perhaps some sort of confusion in these matters.

Also during this period, and especially from the 28th-29th when the Venus influence dwindles, it may be harder to focus our energy. We may be less assertive, less attentive, more scattered, and this can also be reflected by avoidance and a lack of drive.

Making Intentions and Things To Consider

There have been significant astrological configurations in January and late December. For many people, it may have had potent life-altering effects depending on how it connects to their personal astrological blueprint. What has come up for you in recent weeks and how should you proceed?

What do you need to do to help you progress in your evolution? What area of your life do you need to reform or approach differently? Are you looking to liberate yourself from a situation or behavior that is holding you back? If so, what do you need to do to achieve that? Do you need to take a more progressive, revolutionary, or collective approach to something? What do you need to do to create a better future? Is there an area of your life that needs to be looked at more objectively?

These are just some examples of what to consider or focus your intentions on at this time. However, it is good to reflect on anything else that is coming up for you. It is generally best to make any intentions within the first 24 hours following a New Moon. The exact moment it will occur is 9:42 pm Universal Time on January 24th  You can click here to see what that is in your time zone.

Full Moon In Pisces: Tapping Into Our Magic

We are having a Full Moon in Pisces on August 26th 2018. This is the peak of this Lunar Cycle which was initiated by a Solar Eclipse in Leo on August 11th. The energies of a Full Moon may start to become noticeable in the days leading up to it and in the days following, however, it is strongest in the 12 hours before and after. It can also reflect how things play out over following two weeks.

This Full Moon is the first lunation since June 28th that is not an eclipse, however, the energies of the previous eclipses are still in the backdrop of what it is happening at this time and in the coming months as well. Mercury also ended its retrograde one week prior to this, with Mars ending its retrograde the day after this Full Moon, and Saturn getting close to ending one as well.

Considering all of this, now and in the coming weeks is a period in which things can begin move forward after a process of re-orientation and potential changes. For everybody, it can be in different areas of your life depending on how these energies correspond with your natal birth chart. You can read more about the general themes of these eclipses and retrogrades here.

Full Moon In Pisces Opposite Sun In Virgo

At every Full Moon we experience a push-pull or integration between the energies of two opposing signs, in this case it is the Sun in Virgo opposing the Moon in Pisces. We recently began Virgo season on August 23rd, the sign of physical health, duties, efficiency, purity, perfectionism, and service. It is a sign that is detailed, discerning, practical, realistic, productive, but can also be critical, nit-picky, and cynical.

The opposing sign of Pisces where the Full Moon is located is quite different. Pisces is more of a flowy and easygoing energy associated with compassion, creativity, spirituality, and oneness. It is dreamy, imaginative, idealistic, sensitive, and empathic. Pisces can also be elusive, flaky, deceptive, intoxicating, escapist, and delusional.

Virgo, as a Mercury ruled Earth sign, it has strong orientation around the physical and mundane world. Pisces being a Jupiter and Neptune ruled water sign, it is more invested in the spiritual and emotional aspects of life. Both signs are adaptable and are also associated with health in their own ways.

Full Moon Aligned With Fomalhaut and In A Kite Pattern With Earth Signs

This Full Moon is aligned with Fomalhaut, a prominent star which was traditionally one of the four royal stars. Fomalhaut shares many of the same traits as Pisces and somewhat amplifies them. It highlights the magical, artistic, and otherworldly qualities of Pisces. It also can amplify escapism tendencies and lack of being grounded in the real world.

This Full Moon is connected to a Grand Trine in Earth signs, forming what is called a ‘kite pattern’. Even though this Full Moon has many of the Piscean-Fomalhaut energies mentioned, there is still a lot of energy to keep things grounded, practical and realistic, especially considering that the Sun is in Virgo challenging the Moon, both in aspect with Saturn in Capricorn. This is a great energy for making things happen in the real world which also channels the creative, spiritual, imaginative, compassionate, and magical qualities of Pisces/Fomalhaut.

There can be some new developments or potential excitement connected to our careers, duties, and matters connected to the physical/material world. This can be great for original and innovative approaches to these areas, or even regarding our routines, tasks, and structures. In some cases, this could have something to with health and lifestyle.

Some people can be building something in a new way which can have lasting results. This can also be good for integrating more technological, scientific, metaphysical, or even astrological approaches towards these things.?

Mercury In Leo Square Jupiter In Scorpio

The rulers of both Pisces and Virgo, Jupiter and Mercury, are in a square aspect during this Full Moon. It will be strongest from August 27th-28th. This interplay between these two planets began in the second week of July and was also part of Mercury’s retrograde and peaked at the last Solar Eclipse. Due to these planets being the rulers of this Full Moon, it can add more tension to the opposition of Virgo-Pisces.

Around this time we can be more easily scattered. Their can be a clash between facts and ideals, as well as with details and broadmindedness. However, this can also be a great energy for learning and expanding the mind.

This is the post-retrograde and final square which may bring about some sort of a conclusion process to how this energy has been playing out throughout this summer. This may have to do with an adjustment or developments connected to your beliefs, ideals, faith, and understandings. Perhaps it can be about having realizations of our blind spots or deeper truths.

With Mercury in Leo, there can be some sort of expansive energy around our self-expression or in the way we think. Maybe this can be connected to plans or developments around education, travel, marketing, teaching, and publishing. With Jupiter being in Scorpio, it could also have themes around with financial matters, deeper understandings, transformation, or sexuality.

Venus Square Pluto, Mercury Sextile Venus

Venus in Libra is in a square with Pluto in Capricorn which is strongest the day of the Full Moon and the days surrounding it. This can playout as power struggles, possessiveness, intensity, manipulation, or changes amongst friendships, in social situations, or amongst lovers. Fears around these areas can come up or hidden matters may surface.

For some people, this could manifest as challenges around financial matters, however, it can even play out as financial gain. Even with any of the potential challenges mentioned above, this can be a passionate energy romantically or even socially. It can also be good for some sort of aesthetic transformation.

Venus is also in a sextile with Mercury in Leo which will peak from September 2nd-4th after the Pluto energy (mentioned above) fades. Although this isn’t a strong aspect, it still favours social interactions and communications which can be more graceful, diplomatic, and loving. This is great for developing or working on creative idea and it even manifest as financial benefits for some.

Mars About To End Retrograde Followed By Saturn

At the time of this Full Moon, Mars is in its final day of being retrograde which began on June 26th and peaked in late July and early August around the time of the Total Lunar Eclipse in Aquarius. This has been a time of re-orientation and even a release of how we apply Mars in our lives. It is associated with assertion, drive, aggression, physical action, sexuality, motivations, and desires.

In has been mostly in Aquarius while aligned with the South Node and square Uranus. Its themes may have been oriented around the collective, groups, colleagues, friends, social media, as well as humanitarian and social issues. It may even be connected to how we assert ourselves with our intellect or how we apply our innovative selves.

Mars finishes its retrograde at the end of Capricorn which can bring themes connected to our goals, ambitions, careers, responsibilities, and perhaps apply ourselves with better structure, resourcefulness, and in a more solid way. Also, Saturn (the ruler of Capricorn) is getting close to ending its retrograde there on September 6th. All of this combined is an indicator of moving forward in new ways in regards to the Capricorn themes mentioned.

Things To Consider During This Period

What developments have come up for you over the last few months and what are the solutions in how you need to proceed? How can you achieve real and tangible results using your creative expression or spiritual awareness? How can you integrate innovative, technological, or unconventional approaches towards career, duties, health, or lifestyle? Is there anything coming up that is asking you to balance the spiritual with the physical? What do you need to be learning at this time? How can you make your dreams a reality?

These are just some examples of what may be coming up for you, however, there may be other variations of this energy playing out as well.  If you wish to do any sort of intentional release connected to what has come up at this Full Moon, it is best to do so anytime over the two weeks following, when it is waning. The exact moment of this Full Moon is on August 26th at 11:56 am Universal Time. You can click here to see what that is in your time zone.

Solar Eclipse In Leo: Evolving Our Authentic Self-Expression

We are having a partial Solar Eclipse in Leo on August 11th, 2018 which will be the third and final eclipse of this Summer. This is a supercharged New Moon which influences a longer-term period. It will be visible from Russia, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Northeastern Quebec, Greenland, Iceland, and Northeastern Asia.

Prior to this, we have had a Solar Eclipse in Cancer on July 12th/13th and a Total Lunar Eclipse in Aquarius on July 27th/28th happening in the same eclipse season. Solar Eclipses influence the following 6 months while Lunar Eclipses influence the following 1-3 months. However, they are part of a process that began in May 2017 when the Lunar Nodes entered the Leo-Aquarius axis which will last until this November. (Read more about the previous eclipses here).

The Eclipses and the Nodes in these signs are part of an evolutionary process in how we work with these energies. What results from this period will have longer-term effects even beyond this 18 month period.

The North Node has been in Leo, and this pushes us towards new directions in how we express Leo energies, while the South Node is in Aquarius which is more about what we need to let go of in how we express the areas represented by that sign. However, we can experience both beginnings and endings with both.

Solar Eclipse Conjunct Mercury Retrograde In Leo

Similarly to last summer, we have both a Solar Eclipse and Mercury Retrograde occurring in the same sign of Leo. This really emphasizes the re-working and adjustments of how we apply its energy in our lives. It is about how we want to shine in the world, our creative energy, and how we self-express from the heart.

Leo is associated with affection, children, courage, leadership, generosity, and playfulness. It is also about our vitality, passion, and being in alignment with what really lights us up and gets us excited. It is about how we seek praise and attention. The best way to approach that is to be our authentic and heart centred version of ourselves; whether it be in our creations, how we perform, or how we express other Leo traits previously mentioned.

The negative expressions of Leo can be egotistical, authoritarian, dramatic, stubborn, jealous, and hot-tempered.  It can demand respect without earning it and be too loud and boisterous without considering or caring about how others respond to that. However, the more we are working with Leo energy positively, we will attract a more positive and supporting response from those on the receiving end.

This process is about really tuning in to how we shine and express ourselves at our best. It is also about considering how we want to be seen in the world, yet, without being overly occupied with ideas of how we can get the most attention and praise. It can be good to take actions towards how we want to stand out, but it’s important to balance that out with our true authentic higher expression of who we already are.

On August 8th and 9th, Mercury retrograde made its exact conjunction with the Sun which is an important part of the retrograde process known as the ‘inferior conjunction’. Certain things that occurred during this period can help you have a realization in how you need to apply yourself over the coming months.

Reflect on your thoughts, conversations, insights, circumstances, and any other messages or realizations you received from the Universe at that time. Perhaps there was something that triggered you or got your attention? Whatever it was, it is partly connected to whatever shifts that this eclipse is triggering in your life.

Solar Eclipse and Mercury Retrograde Square Jupiter

Both the Eclipse and Mercury retrograde are in a square with Jupiter which ended its retrograde in Scorpio a month prior. Some of the Leo themes mentioned above, and what occurred on August 8th/9th, could somehow be connected to Jupiter ruled areas. This may have to do with an adjustment or developments connected to your beliefs, ideals, faith, and understandings. Perhaps it can be about having realizations of our blind spots or deeper truths.

There can be some sort of expansive energy around our self-expression or in the way we think. Maybe this can be connected to plans or developments around education, travel, marketing, teaching, and publishing. In some cases, it could have something to do with financial matters or sexuality. Whatever it is, it may be connected to something that was initiated in March, July, or sometime in between them.

This energy can also scatter our minds and communications. Mercury is also in a quincunx with Neptune which triggers confusion, distractions, and miscommunications. Our thoughts and conversations might also be at odds with our ideals, dreams, fantasies, illusions, or an expression of escapism.

Jupiter is making its final trine with Neptune in Pisces which began late November/December and was also strong in mid-late May. This can be great for any growth and expansiveness around spirituality, creativity, as well as selfless and compassionate pursuits. This can also be good for anything that involves visual arts, video, and photography.

Some people could have mystical experiences and perhaps some learning can occur through our dreams or connections to spiritual realms. This can be a time of heightened sensitivity. Considering that Mercury is in the process of changing motion when this energy is strongest (from August 14th – 23rd), it’s likely that the potential manifestations of this period will play a role in any clarity that we receive in how we need to move to proceed as Mercury begins moving forward after August 19th.

Mars Retrograde Going In Capricorn

As discussed in previous articles, Mars has been retrograde since late June and will last until August 27th, just after the next Full Moon. Most of it has been occurring in Aquarius, however, less than 2 days after this eclipse it re-enters Capricorn. Over these coming weeks, there could also be adjustments and developments in how we apply ourselves within the Capricorn realm.

It could be connected to our careers, responsibilities, goals, and overall ambitions. Perhaps revisiting how we can assert ourselves in a more orderly, practical, productive, conservative, masterful, structured, and disciplined way. Aquarius is about our social connections, while Capricorn is about resourcefulness, therefore this retrograde can be about how we utilize our social network and teamwork in pursuing our shared goals.

Making Intentions And Things To Consider

What is your heart calling on you to create? How can you express yourself as authentically as possible? What are you passionate about and how can you share that with the world? What has come up for you in the days leading up to this eclipse? What adjustments do you need to make in order to help you fulfill your heart’s desires?

What can you do to bring more joy into your life? How can you be a better leader and/or lover? What are the practical considerations at this time to help you fulfill your passions? What adjustments need to be made with your social network to assist you in fulfilling your goals?

These are just some examples of what to consider during this time. However, keep in mind that the energies of this eclipse will also be a part of the backdrop over the coming months. If you wish to make any intentions, it is generally best to do so within the first 24 hours following the New Moon. However, with this one specifically, it is most ideal to wait 18 hours after the exact moment of it when it occurs. The exact time of this New Moon will be at 9:58am Universal Time on August 11th. You can click here to see what that is in your time zone.

Mars Retrograde 2018: Revising How We Take Action

The planet Mars is going retrograde on June 26th and will last until August 27th. This is something that occurs every two years, with the last one occurring in 2016 from mid-April until late June. This energy started building up when the pre-shadow began in mid-May as Mars started slowing down. Some of the themes of this retrograde may have begun sometime since then.

Retrograde periods are when a planet appears to be moving backwards in the sky due to its position around the Sun relative to Earth’s position. It is a period of re-working how we orientate ourselves with the themes and energies of that specific planet. The most significant retrogrades are those of Mercury, Venus, and Mars.

Mars: Assertion, Willpower, Courage, Desires, Sex, Aggression, and Anger

Mars is a yang/male planet that is associated with how we apply action in our lives. When retrograde, its energies get amplified as it ends up being opposite the Sun and appears at its brightest when looking at the night sky. This is like the ‘Full Moon’ for Mars as it receives the most light from the Sun.

During this retrograde, Mars themes will be highlighted very strongly which ultimately help to facilitate some sort of adjustment. This could influence where to best apply our efforts, how we use our willpower, our motivations, our desires, a shift in our sex lives, and how we deal with aggression and anger. When a planet goes retrograde, the circumstances that manifest help us to ultimately express the energies of this planet in a new way.

Due to its energies being amped in retrograde motion, this can also be a time where many people can get more easily angered or irritated. This can be potentially the most negative manifestation of this period. People who have strong Mars energy or many of those who are dominant Aries or Scorpio may notice these effects the most.

There can be a build-up of inner tension which eventually can be expressed outwardly, sometimes in a passive-aggressive way.  If this applies to you, it would be wise to find a healthy way to release anger and ease tension in a way that is not harmful to you or the people in your life.

Any frustrations that occur at this time could be as a result of things not flowing smoothly and wasted efforts. If this occurs to you, it would be good to consider that something needs to change with the way you are applying yourself and pay attention to signs from the Universe.

Usually, this occurs when taking new initiatives, but not in every case. If so, it may be better to revisit old tasks, projects, and efforts and you may find that doing this can be more productive. However, this will not make you immune to all of its effects which ultimately should help you in your personal development.

As Mars is also associated with sex, sometimes what happens is that a shift in our sex lives could occur. In some cases, there can be a change in a relationship or even a friendship. For example, some people may begin a sexual relationship with someone who they are already acquainted or friends with. In other cases, the opposite may occur. However, this won’t apply to everybody and everyone will experience this retrograde in different ways in which many are expressed throughout this article.

Mars Retrograde In Aquarius and Capricorn

The majority of this retrograde will occur in Aquarius with it ending in Capricorn where it will move forward again. Its themes may be oriented around the collective, groups, colleagues, friends, as well as humanitarian and social issues. It may even be connected to how we assert ourselves with our intellect or how we apply our innovative selves.

Mars will then return to Capricorn on August 12th/13th where Pluto and Saturn are currently located. This can bring in themes of re-orientation connected to our goals, ambitions, careers, responsibilities, and perhaps apply ourselves with better structure, resourcefulness, and in a more solid way.

Mars Conjunct South Node and Out Of Bounds

In the weeks leading up to this period, Mars has been travelling near the South Node of the Moon and will also pass over it again during the retrograde. The South Node is associated with the past and could be connected to what can be holding us back. It is even considered to be a place where energy can dissipate. This could be about letting go of old approaches of how we use our Mars energy, but in this process, themes connected to the past may resurface during this time to help us make the changes.

On July 7th/8th, Mars will be going ‘out of bounds’ and will stay like that until September 24th which is almost a month after the retrograde ends. At that time, we will still be in the post-retrograde shadow period (until October 8th) which is when things related to Mars begin to move forward more smoothly.

A planet is ‘out of bounds’ when it travels beyond the limits in which the Sun travels in from our vantage point on Earth. This is generally a time when that planet expresses itself in unusual, unique, independent, unconventional, innovative, and even creative ways. It is sort of like it is exploring new territory beyond the normal constructs of society or how it usually expresses itself.

Mars Square Uranus, Eclipses, and Mercury Retrograde

A major factor of this Mars retrograde is that it will be in a square with Uranus which will be strongest during the last week of July and the first week of August. Uranus has similar energy to a planet being ‘out of bounds’ so therefore this aspect emphasizes what was mentioned above. This configuration can also trigger rebelliousness, impulsive actions, disruptions, sudden changes, and perhaps a need to break free out of inhibiting situations.

Circumstances that can come up can make it even harder to focus and direct our energy, and therefore it is best to be adaptable and to surrender that what isn’t working. However, it would be wise to be cautious about taking impulsive action in case you may do something you may regret. It would be wise to think things over and reflect when triggered. Mercury will also be going retrograde at that time so we may easily not see things clearly.

This entire Mars retrograde period will also be occurring while three eclipses take place. We will have partial Solar Eclipses taking place on July 12th/13th in Cancer and on August 11th/12th in Leo. However, the most potent one, which is also strongly connected to Mars retrograde, will be a Total Lunar Eclipse in Aquarius on July 27th/28th.

The Lunar Eclipse will be aligned with Mars while it is in a square with Uranus which can carry some of the Mars/Uranus themes mentioned above over the following months even after the retrograde is over. Eclipses in general trigger changes which ultimately depends on how it is interacting with your natal astrology chart (personal astrological blueprint) based on your exact birth time. These themes of change are strongest in the month of each eclipse, however, they still can unfold over the following 3-6 months.

Due to the fact that the eclipse in late July is a Total Lunar Eclipse near the South Node, combined with the Mars/Uranus configuration, this really emphasizes the fact that this is a period of really letting go of certain aspects of our lives that are not serving us. Perhaps any wasted or challenging efforts we experience as a result of Mars retrograde may help to show us this. This Lunar Eclipse, also referred to as a ‘Blood Moon’, will be the longest Lunar Eclipse of the 21st century, lasting just over four hours.

I will be releasing more content about these Eclipses and Mercury retrograde as we get closer to those dates. You can join my mailing list here to ensure that you are notified when I release my latest content.

What To Reflect On During This Mars Retrograde?

Are you asserting yourself appropriately in your life? What are you being shown by the Universe? How is the outside world responding to the way you take action? How do you feel inside? What adjustments do you need to make in order to proceed more effectively with your goals and aspirations? Which of your past decisions, ideas, or initiatives should you revisit and experiment with? What do you need to bring to an end? How can you express yourself in ways that are unique, creative, and unconventional? What are your true inner desires?

These are some examples of what to reflect on during this time. The retrograde ends on August 27th. From that point on until early October, many of the challenges of this summer will dissipate and most (or all) of the areas that were triggered during this period should move forward more smoothly with increased clarity. Any changes that have occurred will help to facilitate a better way for us to express ourselves.
