Dear Friends,
As some you may have heard, for more than two years, Dr. Fagan has been working on a very challenging research project–to create the first test to specifically detect a gene-edited GMO, which is a euphemism for a new class of GMOs.

Proponents in the biotech industry maintain that these DNA alterations can not be detected, and therefore can not be traced, or tested or regulated, and should not even be called GMOs. However, they definitely are genetically modified, and carry the same risks as the earlier GMOs, although maybe more so–huge disruption of the genome, unexpected side effects, environmental and health damage, toxic influences, etc.

Other scientists who have been working on the risks of GMOs and on that research front for years have called this work historic. The study was published in the EU on Monday, and in the US on Tuesday, September 6.

The article below was published in GMWatch, a British GM watchdog site, and provides a well-written overview.

What Could Go Wrong? DARPA Seeks “Militarized Microbes” So They Can Spread Genetically Modified Bacteria

(Mac Slavo) The Pentagon’s DARPA (Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency) wants to be able to spread genetically modified bacteria as “explosives sensors.” The United States government could very well be looking into ways to militarize microbes.

Monsanto Herbicide for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

The weed killer glyphosate — infamously known as Roundup — can be found everywhere: lawns, gardens, parks, soil, rivers and even in the rain (1). But household use of this herbicide is dwarfed by its use in agriculture. And herein lies the problem.

Over the past several years, scientists have discovered that exposure to glyphosate-containing weed killers is a huge threat to public health. And it’s a risk that keeps growing.

The rise of GMO crops — including corn, soy, and canola — has led to a skyrocketing use of glyphosate with almost 300 million pounds applied each year (2). Genetically engineered crops (GMOs) were designed to withstand this toxic herbicide, so it can be sprayed and kill the weeds but not the crop.
