New Moon In Aquarius: Proceeding With New Ideas

We are having a New Moon in Aquarius on February 4th in the West which will be February 5th in the Eastern part of the world. This is initiating a 29.5-day Lunar cycle and a new wave of energy for the coming month. This cycle will peak at the Full Moon in Virgo on February 19th.

This New Moon follows a Lunar and Solar Eclipse which was part of the previous lunar cycle. It’s important to keep in mind that the energy of the eclipses we had in January will continue to play out over the coming months. You can read more about them here.

Aquarius season began on January 20th, one day prior to the last Lunar Eclipse. However, this New Moon accentuates its energies even more so. It is also occurring right in the middle of this sign, which is also the middle of winter. Traditionally, pagans celebrated this period as ‘Imbolc.’

Aquarius is associated with idealism and innovation, as it tries to figure out how to do things in a better way and takes the future into consideration. Although it can be idealistic, it applies itself intellectually and rationally, yet can also be overly theoretical. Being a fixed sign, traditionally ruled by Saturn, it can also be stubborn and unyielding when it comes to the ideas and perspectives that it has already decided on.

Aquarius is also about friends, social networks, the group, the team, and the collective. However, it can also be detached socially and likes to spread itself out with regards to relationships. In more modern approaches to astrology, the planet Uranus has been assigned as a ruler of Aquarius. Uranus reflects the inventive, revolutionary, unconventional, and even rebellious potentials of Aquarius. I personally view Saturn as its primary ruler and observe Uranus as a sub-ruler or representative of certain qualities of Aquarius.

Over the last year and a half, we have had Eclipses as well as Mars Retrograde occurring in Aquarius. This has been a period of shifting and changes in regards to how we incorporate Aquarian themes in our lives, with the previous Lunar Eclipse in Leo being the final instalment of this process. Therefore it is possible that this Lunar cycle (and the previous weeks) could trigger themes that have already been playing out since 2017.

New Moon Conjunct Mercury and Sextile Jupiter, Mercury in aspect with Mars conjunct Uranus

This New Moon is aligned with Mercury in the same sign, six days after it was in its ‘superior conjunction’ with the Sun. This is a period in which we can proceed forward with greater clarity in regards to things that have been seeded in the previous months. We can better implement our ideas in a way that is more aligned with our true wants. This combined with Mercury in aspect with Mars, can signify a period of increased Mercurial action such as thinking, planning, communicating and writing.

Mercury is also moving towards a sextile with Uranus which is strongest on February 9th. This can stimulate the inventiveness of Aquarius, and can be a time of insight, new ideas, or thinking in a unique or unconventional way. Mars is aligned with Uranus which will be strongest from February 12th-13th yet will be building up in the days leading up to it. This can reflect taking action in a way that is different, liberating, rebellious, but it can also be impulsive and erratic. It is possible that some changes could come up that could alter how we apply ourselves.

Jupiter in Sagittarius is also connected to this New Moon and Mercury configuration. This can be good for learning, teaching, exploring, and considering the big picture. Philosophical thinking could also be a theme. This can also be good for plans or actions connected to media, marketing, or even travels. This combined with the Mercury-Mars aspect can also manifest as short trips and moving around a lot.

Saturn Sextile Neptune, Chiron in Final Stretch of Pisces

Saturn, the traditional ruler of Aquarius, is in a sextile with Neptune in Pisces which peaked in the previous week and will still play a role over the coming weeks and in different periods throughout the year. This is a great influence for taking a structured, disciplined or committed approach when it comes to ideals, dreams, inspirations, creativity, spirituality, or even anything that involves selflessness, compassion, or healing.

Chiron is finishing up its process in Pisces before returning to Aries on February 18th. It began its journey in Pisces in 2010 and the last time it was there before that was from 1960-1969. Known as the ‘wounded healer’, Chiron triggers both wounds and the potential healing of those wounds. It also serves as a bridge and helps to facilitate holistic awareness and approaches towards healing and empowerment.

Chiron has been influencing Piscean themes which is about spirituality, oneness, compassion, psychic potential, creativity, and inspiration. This energy could also trigger wounds, blockages, or negative traits of Pisces to help facilitate healing, awareness, or transformation. This can include escapism, intoxication, delusion, and deception. Pisces can also easily drift from light to dark, either consciously or by lacking discernment. .

Since 2010 we have seen a major spiritual shift in the collective, with many people become more spiritually aware through personal experiences as opposed to the influence of organized religion.  Last time it was in Pisces it had a similar effect. However, this was before Chiron was discovered and seeded into the collective consciousness and therefore its influence in Pisces in the 60’s was not as strong as it is during its recent passage.

During this final stretch of Chiron in Pisces over the next few weeks, we could experience some sort of concluding factor of this process. This combined with Saturn sextile Neptune (mentioned above), can indicate a period of making constructive and beneficial progress around these themes.

Making Intentions and Things To Consider

What has been coming up for you over the last month and how should you take a different approach based on this? Did you have any insights, conversations, realizations, or increased clarity that came up around January 29th-30th? In what new ways can you approach your friendships or social networks? How can you assert yourself in new ways?

What realistic steps do you need to take to help make your dreams, visions, and ideals a reality? What areas of your life are calling for some sort of expansion? What aspect of your life wants to healed? What do you need to overcome in order to help you become a more whole and spiritually embodied version of yourself?

These are just some examples of what to consider or focus your intentions on at this time, however, it is good to reflect on anything else that is coming up for you. It is generally best to make any intentions within the first 24 hours following a New Moon. It will be occurring at 9:04pm Universal Time, you can click here to see what that is in your time zone.

Full Moon In Gemini: Expanding The Way We Think

We are having a Full Moon in Gemini on November 22nd or 23rd, depending on where you are located in the world. This marks the peak of the Lunar Cycle that began on November 7th with a New Moon in Scorpio. The energies of a Full Moon gradually build up earlier in the Moon cycle and become more noticeable on the day of and days surrounding it. It is also a part of the backdrop of the other astrological energies over the following 2 weeks.

At every Full Moon we feel a push-pull between the two opposite signs where the Sun and Moon are located, this case being Gemini and Sagittarius. The Sun has just entered Sagittarius, just under a day prior to peak of the Full Moon and will be there for the coming month.  The rulers of Gemini and Sagittarius, which are Mercury and Jupiter, are also in Sagittarius with Mercury in its retrograde phase.

All of these factors really amplify the Sagittarian themes playing out at this time as well changes and shifts connected to the energy of this sign. Sagittarius is the sign of expanding horizons which can be done through travel, education, exploration, and experience. It is about perspectives, beliefs, religion, philosophy, idealism, and optimism.

Sagittarius is the teacher, visionary and is ‘big picture’ oriented. It also rules things like marketing, sales, publishing, and media. As a fire sign, it is passionate and instinctual. Expressed negatively, it can be judgemental, excessive, blunt, egotistical, argumentative, preachy, unrealistic, and have a ‘know-it-all’ complex.

The Full Moon brings in the energies of the opposite sign Gemini into the equation. It rules over communication, articulation, and writing. Gemini is a clever sign with a trickster energy. It has multiple personalities and different sides. As an Air sign, it is more mentally and socially oriented. Ruled by Mercury, Gemini is curious and loves consuming different types of information.

It is strongly oriented around communication as well as moving around and not staying in one spot.  It gets bored easily if it isn’t doing any of this and if variety is lacking. Gemini also rules the local and immediate environment, as well as commuting. The negative qualities of Gemini include superficiality, gossip, and being two faced. Like Sagittarius, it can also be scattered and lack focus.

This Full Moon brings up both challenges or potential integration of the energies of both these signs. Some examples of this energy could manifest as challenges/integrations between facts and ideas, student and teacher, or between local and international matters. However, any of the other themes and qualities mentioned can also play a factor as well.

Full Moon In Aspect With Mars, Jupiter, and Mercury

This Full Moon is in a square with Mars in Pisces, forming a T-square when we factor in the Sun and Mercury. This can make this Full Moon more lively and action-packed, however, this can also reflect potential conflict, competitiveness, or clashing. It may be between different ideas and viewpoints or perhaps connected to other themes relative to Gemini and Sagittarius.

Mars is in Pisces is a sign that shares similar themes to Sagittarius in which they are both idealistic and driven by faith. However, it is a less driven sign for Mars to express itself in. Some of this energy is strong from November 25th-26th.

The Sun is moving towards a conjunction with Jupiter with the Full Moon triggering an opposition to it. This emphasizes many of the themes mentioned, but combined with the square to Mars, we can easily overextend ourselves, however, it can also indicate applying ourselves towards something that is expansive in some way.

Mars is also in a sextile with Saturn in Capricorn which is strongest from November 27th to 28th, a period in which I cover more in detail below. This energy is not as strong as some of the other things mentioned, however, it can bring some stability or focus in how we apply ourselves, as well developments around responsibilities, commitments, or even career.

Mercury Approaching Inferior Conjunction With Jupiter in The Mix

At the halfway point of every Mercury Retrograde, Mercury is aligned with the Sun in what is known as the ‘inferior conjunction’. This is a period that can be a very insightful time, it occurs on November 26th-27th, but the days surrounding it can also have similar energy. However, common Mercury Retrograde problems and complications can also be very strong, depending on what you are doing and how this retrograde connects to your personal astrology chart.

It’s good to pay extra attention to what comes up in your life, conversations you have, as well any intuitions, information, or any other signs/messages from the universe that feel important for you at this time. New ideas and thoughts can be seeded which could play a role as to how certain things develop over the coming months, and in some cases, they can have long-term significance. Keep in mind that Mercury will still be retrograde until December 6th/7th, and in the period after that, developments connected to this retrograde will get clearer.

The Sun and Mercury will both be in a conjunction with Jupiter as well,  in a period lasting from November 25th-28th when the above mentioned ‘inferior conjunction’ is occuring. This can manifest as developments that can be expansive, fortunate, lucky, or perhaps connected to some of the Sagittarius themes mentioned. We may learn something significant at this time, expand our minds, or perhaps have stimulating conversations with others.

Venus In Post Retrograde Opposing Uranus and Square Lunar Nodes

Venus ended its retrograde recently on November 16th and we are still in what is called the ‘post retrograde shadow period’.  The developments that have occurred over the last few months regarding Venus themes have set the stage for how things move forward in the coming month.

During the Full Moon, Venus will be in ‘antiscia’ with Mars, which is when two planets are the same distance from the beginning of Cancer or Capricorn. This combined with the fact that Venus is picking up speed after being retrograde could reflect forward developments around Venus matters.

Venus is moving towards a square with the Lunar Nodes and a final opposition to Uranus which peaks from November 27th-December 2nd. At that time, we can expect to see further changes, shifts, or perhaps turning points around Venus ruled areas such as love, social lives, values, pleasures, or money in some cases. This energy can also be disruptive to anything that needs to change or be released and ultimately could finalize something that has already been playing out in recent weeks or months.

Things To Consider

Has anything come up for you recently connected to your beliefs, perspectives, travel, education, or media/marketing? What do you need to revise or change? Keep in mind that Mercury is still retrograde until December 6th/7th and we might still lack clarity around these issues until after then.

Do you need to pay more attention to certain facts or details in order to fulfill your aspirations? Are you being called to learn something you have overlooked in the past or put on the ‘back burner’? Has anything major changed around Venus issues over the last 6 weeks? If so, how do you now need to approach that part of your life?

These are just some examples of themes that could come up during this period, however, there may be other variations of this energy playing out as well.  If you wish to do any sort of intentional release connected to what has come up at this Full Moon, it is best to do so anytime over the two weeks following, when it is waning. The exact moment of this Full Moon is on October 23rd at 5:39am Universal Time. You can click here for your time zone.

Mercury Retrograde In Sagittarius: Revising Our Perspectives

Mercury began the latest edition of its retrograde process on November 16th/17th, which will last until December 6th/7th. In the weeks (and especially days) leading up to it we start to notice its influence as Mercury slows down and comes to a stop before moving the other way. This is known as the ‘pre-shadow’ period which began on October 29th.

If you have read my previous Mercury retrograde articles, the first two sections of this article are nearly the same and you can skip to the third section if you don’t want to re-read all the general themes associated with these periods. The other sections are more specific to this edition of it.

Mercury retrograde is known for the problematic effects it often has on communication technology, transactions, motor vehicles, anything with moving parts, and commuting in general. Some people even get headaches near the beginning of it. We could experience some challenges, misunderstandings, and errors around our communications, numbers/details, and commerce, as well as changes, cancellations, or delays in our schedules. We may also feel more challenged when we are doing excessive analytical work without using our internal guidance.

Although there is a higher probability of experiencing more of these problems during this time, they won’t necessarily apply to every situation. Some people may not notice these energies as much, depending on what types of things they are doing and how the astrology is playing out unique to the person’s astrological blueprint.

Mercury Retrograde can also be a good time to revisit or redo tasks, projects, ideas, or anything else that was initiated in the past. It can give us a different perspective or shift in thinking that can help us to approach these things in ways we wouldn’t have done so before. This may also be a period of reconnecting with old friends, family, sometimes lovers, or others you haven’t seen in a while.

The Deeper Purpose of Mercury Retrograde

Ultimately, Mercury Retrograde is a time for us to recalibrate and adjust specific areas of our lives as well as how we apply our minds towards these issues. It is a period in which we may receive important insights and see things in a new light. In most cases, it can be mildly transformational, but in some cases it can facilitate more major transformations depending on how it corresponds to your personal astrological chart.

During and following the retrograde, certain areas of our lives can go through changes or shifts, or we can experience a reorientation of some sort which influences how we proceed over the coming months or in some cases, it can have a more long-term significance. In the 2 weeks afterwards, known as the ‘post-shadow’ period, we move forward with some sort of new awareness, adjustment, as well as new ideas and thoughts that have been seeded which will develop as time progresses.

The things that you have been doing or circumstances in the two to three weeks leading up to this period could determine how and where this energy plays out. It is also possible that there could have been changes put in place at that time which may go through a sorting out process. There could have been unknown variables, both positive and negative, that were either unseen or hadn’t been conceived yet, which may become apparent over the coming weeks.

The sign(s) and element(s) in which Mercury retrograde travels shows the energy we are re-orienting ourselves with. More importantly, if you are more familiar with your natal astrology chart, your house(s) or any planetary placements being affected will show more specifically what areas of life you will be experiencing its energy in. For the astrologically literate, it began at 13’30 degrees of Leo and will retrograde all the way to 27’17 degrees of the Scorpio, before turning forward again.

This One Is Occurring Mostly In Sagittarius, Part of A Series In Fire Signs

Mercury retrograde always happens in primarily one element for more than a year. It is currently occurring in the Fire element which is about passion, creativity, instinct, inspiration, assertiveness, courage, confidence, and spirit. It also ends in the Water sign of Scorpio leading to the transition into Water signs which kicks off more so at the next Mercury retrograde in Pisces.

This Fire period is about re-aligning ourselves with these themes and expressing them in new or revamped ways. This ‘Fire process’ began in the spring of 2017 as it was transitioning out of Earth signs, with the first Mercury Retrograde to be completely in Fire occurring last December.

This one is more specific to a reorientation around Sagittarius themes, which is about beliefs, opinions, perspectives, teaching, hope, optimism, exploration, travel, and higher education. It is visionary and ‘big picture’ oriented. Sagittarius is also associated with marketing, sales, publishing, and media. It is idealistic, philosophical, and expansive. Expressed negatively, Sagittarius energy can also be judgemental, excessive, blunt, egotistical, argumentative, preachy,  too scattered, and have a ‘know-it-all’ complex.

Mercury Retrograde Begins With a Square To Neptune

Mercury in Sagittarius begins its retrograde in a square with Neptune in Pisces which it will return to at the end of the post-shadow period. The combination can make it a little difficult to focus and deal with details and facts. However, it can stimulate abstract thought and help us to perceive things symbolically.

An evolutionary theme of this retrograde for many people could be about the reworking of how we apply Mercury and Neptune energies together. Mercury rules communication, the mind, commuting, communication technology, and how we process information. Neptune is associated with creativity, imagination, visual or musical arts, selflessness, oneness, compassion, idealism, dreams, spirituality, and mysticism.

Negative expressions of this energy that may come up that we need to work on could be connected to deception, addictions, escapism, illusions, flakiness, delusion, confusion, and lack of boundaries. Then you can also factor in the Sagittarian themes mentioned above.

Jupiter Recently Entered Sagittarius, Venus Finished Retrograde

The ruler of Sagittarius, Jupiter, has returned to its own sign on November 8th where it will stay until December 2019. Jupiter, the planet of expansion, rules the same things associated with Sagittarius and therefore this combined with the current Mercury retrograde really amplifies the Sagittarian themes mentioned earlier in the article.

Mercury will be aligned with Jupiter on its retrograde path which indicates that certain things that play out over the next month will help to set the stage for what Jupiter will bring into our lives over the next year. This month can be a period of tremendous learning, and perhaps even revamping certain perspectives, and how to incorporate the ‘big picture’ in how we proceed following the retrograde.

Venus ended its retrograde less than half a day prior to Mercury going retrograde. For many people, the Venus related developments, issues, or reorientations that have come up in recent weeks might be connected to any adjustments Mercury will be facilitating.

Venus will be in its post-retrograde shadow period until mid-December which will be 11 days after Mercury ends its retrograde. As time progresses over the next month, there will be more forward momentum around Venus-ruled areas of relationships (romantically and socially), values, money, pleasures, or perhaps something to do with aesthetics.

Mercury Retrograde Timeline

*Below, are some of the dates and information for some of the major astrological configurations during this retrograde. However, I also regularly post about other astro energies happening on my social media via Instagram and Facebook, you can follow on those platforms for more forecast content.

Earlier dates are for those in the Western part of the world and later dates for those in the East.

Nov 16th/17thMercury begins its retrograde at 1:33 am Universal Time. The days surrounding this period are a time in which complications may be amplified, but you may also start to get a better sense of what these retrograde themes mean for you.

Nov 22nd/23rdFull Moon In Gemini. We may feel that we are being pulled in many directions and can get easily scattered and restless. There is a possibility of a clash, conflict, or competitiveness around of ideas and viewpoints. I will be doing a separate article on this Full Moon, join my mailing list here to be notified when it gets released.

Nov 25th-28th Mercury’s Inferior Conjunction, Mercury square Mars, Mercury/Sun Conjunct Jupiter, and Mars Sextile Saturn. This is that halfway point of Mercury retrograde and can be a period of increased insights yet complications can also be stronger at this time depending on how you are applying yourself. Ideas and thoughts that are seeded now may develop over the coming months. This can also be a period where we are more irritable, impulsive, and perhaps have some conflict in some cases. However this can also be a highly productive period if Mercury retrograde complications do not get in the way. This can be a very mind opening period, perhaps lucky and expansive. Considering the ‘big picture’ is a strong theme now.

Nov 30th – Dec 2nd Venus opposite Uranus, Mercury enters Scorpio while semi-sextile Venus, Mercury quincunx Uranus. Changes, disruptions, or surprises may come up at this time which may require some adjustments. This may affect relationships or financial matters, however, there is also a possibility of some exciting energy as well. Mercury shifting into Scorpio can help us think deeper or in an investigative way. Hidden matters connected to the past may come up.

Dec 3rd/4th – Mercury Trine Chiron and Lunar Nodes. There is a possibility for growth and healing at this time. There can be communications, connections or developments made which can benefit our future. Greater awareness of strengths and weaknesses can be beneficial for where we are headed.

Dec 6th/7th – Mercury Goes Direct in Late Scorpio with New Moon 10 hours later, Mars Conjunct Neptune. Mercury ends its retrograde and will slowly begin to move forward over the coming days. The areas of our lives that have been affected by this retrograde will start to become more clear and things will fall into place more easily. There will be a New Moon shortly afterwards which will help to kickstart new developments due to what has transpired.

New Moon In Scorpio: Deep Growth & Constructive Change

We are having a New Moon in Scorpio on November 7th at 4:02 pm Universal Time. This is initiating a 29.5-day Lunar cycle and a new wave of energy for the coming month. This cycle will peak at the Full Moon in Gemini that is occurring on November 22nd/23rd.

The Sun has already been in Scorpio for the previous few weeks yet this New Moon will trigger this energy even more so. This sign is associated with power, transformation, sexuality, regeneration, passion, and depth. It is calculated, complex, mysterious and also associated with money/resourceS when it is shared, as well as inheritances, and debts.

It can be also vengeful, secretive, manipulative, fearful,  compulsive, and obsessive. As a fixed water sign, it is emotional, intuitive, and strong-willed. However, Scorpio can be very stealthy when it comes to exposing their true feelings, emotions, and vulnerabilities.

The Sun and Moon are moving towards a sextile with Pluto which is a modern sub-ruler of Scorpio. This aspect emphasizes what I have already written especially the positive qualities of this sign. This can be a great energy for making positive change, overcoming fears, and breaking out of challenges that are holding us back. Jupiter is also in its final day in Scorpio which also reinforces some this energy.

Scorpio Ruler Mars Trine Venus Retrograde

At the time of this New Moon, Mars in Aquarius is making a trine to Venus retrograde in Libra, which will be strongest a few days later. This is occurring in Air signs while Venus is in its last week of its retrograde. This can be a great energy for social interactions, romance, or perhaps even working on something creative or aesthetic, especially if it was initiated in the past.

However, with Venus still being retrograde, whatever occurs during this period will also play a role in the reorientation of how we apply ourselves in Venus ruled areas which will conclude in the coming weeks. Venus rules relationships (socially and romantically), money, beauty, love, values, as well as creativity and pleasures. You can read more about this Venus retrograde here.

Jupiter Entering Sagittarius, Mercury Going Retrograde Soon

As mentioned above, Jupiter is changing signs less than a day after this New Moon. It has been in Scorpio since October 2017 and transitions to its home sign of Sagittarius where it will stay until December 2019. However, its themes have been gradually building up since July after it ended its last retrograde.

Jupiter is the planet of travel, luck, higher education, experience, exploration, philosophy, religion, beliefs and is ‘big picture’ oriented. In its own sign of Sagittarius, Jupiter gets to express these energies at its fullest potential as Sagittarius is also associated with the same things. This next year is a period to expand and broaden our horizons. The area of life that will be affected by Jupiter in Sagittarius also depends on what house it is travelling in and what planets it is interacting within your natal chart.

Mercury is also slowing down to go retrograde on November 16th/17th, so it is possible that you may have started to notice some common retrograde complications. The pre-shadow period for it began on October 28th/29th and therefore some developments that have occurred since then may go through some changes and adjustments during (and following) the retrograde period which ends on December 6th/7th.

Interestingly, most of this retrograde occurs in Sagittarius, and this combined with Jupiter (and the Sun eventually) really highlights Sagittarian themes during that period. I will be writing a separate article on this Mercury Retrograde, you can be notified when it is released by joining my mailing list here.

Lunar Nodes Changing Signs, Uranus Re-Enters Aries While Square Nodes

Less than a day before this New Moon, the Lunar Nodes change from the Leo/Aquarius axis (where they have been since May 2017) and into the Cancer/Capricorn axis. They will stay there for the following 18 months and will also be triggered by upcoming eclipses as well as a previous Solar Eclipse in Cancer.

This is beginning a process of changes of how we work with energies of these signs. This is pushing us towards being more caring, protective, nurturing, and connecting emotionally with loved ones. It is also about making changes towards structures and ambitions that do not serve us.

Uranus retrograde is also returning to Aries less than an hour after the Lunar Nodes change signs (Nov 6th) while it is in a square aspect with them. This is a rare occurrence. The square between Uranus and the Nodes could reflect challenges and developments which ultimately help us to consider the past and the future, or between old behaviours and new ways of expressing ourselves. This could also indicate a turning point for some.

With Uranus changing signs its energy gets amplified and this could reflect sudden changes, disruptions, surprises, and sometimes accidents. Perhaps we can also be revisiting a theme connected to authentic individuality which has been playing out since 2011. Whenever Uranus transitions signs it can be pretty obvious by observing news media and looking at what is happening in the world in the days surrounding it.

Making Intentions And Things To Consider

What has been coming up for you over the last month regarding social/romantic relationships, matters of love, sexuality, or money? What do you need to shift in how you apply yourself in these areas? What part of your life should you approach with greater depth and realness? What can you release or transform to help empower you? What fears do you need to overcome, or perhaps you have already began doing so?  How can you expand and broaden your horizons?

These are just some examples of what to consider or focus your intentions on at this time, however, it is good to reflect on anything else that is coming up for you. It is generally best to make any intentions within the first 24 hours following a New Moon. However, the closer the better and can be as early as 30 minutes prior to the exact moment of it. This New Moon will be occurring at 4:02pm Universal Time. You can click here to see what that is in your time zone.

Venus Retrograde In Scorpio & Libra: Adjustments Around Relationships & Values

Venus is retrograde from October 5th until November 16th. It has been building up since September 2nd, when Venus entered what is called the “pre-shadow” period. When a planet goes retrograde, our perspective here on Earth makes it appear to be going backwards in the sky.

Unlike Mercury Retrograde, Venus Retrogrades occur less frequently, every 19 months, but they last about twice as long. Although both retrogrades have some similarities in regards to how they might affect your social life, Venus still presents a much different vibe.

Retrogrades are a time to revisit, reflect on, and make adjustments to things represented by that planet. Venus rules over love, intimate relationships, friendships, values, money, beauty, and overall attractability. It is associated with our passions, creativity, pleasures, and tastes.

Venus begins its retrograde in a square with Mars which has also recently been retrograde. Therefore, much of the Mars related shifts that occurred throughout the summer and up until early October has set the stage for this Venus’ retrograde.

These recent months have been a time of re-orientation of how we assert and apply ourselves.

In some cases this previous Mars retrograde could have been connected to shifts around how we apply aggression, sexuality, and desires. There could have also been surprises, sudden changes, disruptions, or taking action towards some sort of freedom or liberating from a situation.

Intimate and Social Relationships

For many couples, though not all, it can be a challenging time. Whether challenging or not, however, Venus retrograde can deepen or shift the way love and/or pleasure are expressed between partners. Any new relationships — those shorter than 18 months — may be tested during this period, as it will be the first one experienced as a couple.

Any new developments or perspectives around relationships that have occurred since September 2nd may end up playing out quite differently than expected over the next few months. Consider this an important step in the evolution of your relationship(s). If all is well, it will ultimately be strengthened.

Friendships could be affected in this way as well, minus the intimacy. This could also be a time when people reconnect with friends (or lovers) of the past to further evolve the relationship. It could bring some sort of closure and/or new developments.

New or reacquainted relationships that form during Venus retrogrades can play an important role in evolving how we apply ourselves in relationships into the future. However, for anyone who does enter a new relationship at this time, it would be good to wait until after the retrograde is over before going ‘all in’. At that point, things will then become more clear on how to proceed with matters of love. In some cases a relationship can get more serious or developed in the post retrograde period while in other cases it could come to an end.

Money, Values, Beauty, and Material Things

Depending on what area of your natal chart it is occurring in, and while considering other factors, Venus retrograde could create a shift in what we value and/or how we are valued and what we are attracted to. For some people, there could also be a shift in financial matters that may have begun developing or played out sometime since early September. If so, be mindful of the fact that things could still change over the next few months.

It would also be a good idea to be cautious when doing anything new that involves beauty, decorating, or buying any items related to fashion. There is a greater possibility that eventually you may not be happy with these kinds of choices that you make. However, Venus retrograde can be good for renovations in many cases, especially after October 31st when it returns to Libra.

This Retrograde Starts in Scorpio and Travels Back to Libra

Venus begins its retrograde in Scorpio, and it has been in that sign since September 9th. Developments around financial matters, shared resources, or credit  may have come up since then and can continue to play out. This retrograde could also have to do with a re-orientation of how we spend finances towards fun and pleasurable pursuits.

Scorpio is a passionate, intense, transformative, and primal energy. It can be very calculated and cautious, but once it wants something, it is ‘all in’. As a result,  it can also be possessive, jealous, fearful, controlling, manipulative, and obsessive. Therefore matters of love and romance could be flavoured with those themes.

Venus re-enters its own sign of Libra on October 31st and will end its retrograde there. Because it rules this sign, it amplifies some of the Venus themes already mentioned. In this sign, it could facilitate a re-orientation of how we seek harmony and balance in our love lives, socially, or even financially. Adjustments connected to beauty, style, or anything aesthetic could occur. A shift in our creativity could also occur during this period.

Venus ends its retrograde close to the star Spica, which is traditionally the most fortunate and lucky star. In the week before and after the retrograde, we may notice its energy the most. Depending on how it is interacting with your natal astrology chart, this period can be highly beneficial socially, romantically, financially, creatively, or aesthetically.

Journey of Venus Retrograde – Timeline

*Below, are some of the dates and information about Venus’ aspects othe major astrological configurations during this retrograde. However, I also usually post about other astro energies happening on my social media via Instagram and Facebook, you can follow those platforms for more forecast content.

Earlier dates are for those in Western part of the world and later dates for those in the East.

October 5th/6th Venus retrograde begins at 7:05pm Universal Time.

The days surrounding this period could be a time in which some of the themes mentioned above could become more apparent. In some cases, their could be some sort of development that will play a significant role in how this retrograde plays out for you.

October 10th/11th Venus square Mars.

This can be a passionate time in relationships, however, it can also stimulate tension, conflict, and intensity either in our love lives or socially. Perhaps some developments connected to sexuality may come up. This can also be a period of impulsively or aggressively spending money or seeking pleasures. This energy can also be competitive. Taking action towards anything to do with aesthetics or creativity could occur as well. This energy can start to become noticeable when the retrograde begins, however, it peaks at this period.

October 15th/16th Venus conjunct Mercury.

This can be a good time for anything social. Perhaps connecting with old friends, associates, or lovers could occur. We may put extra mental focus towards Venus ruled areas or perhaps learn something that we were unaware of before. Financial transactions connected to the past may also occur.

October 23rd – 25th  Full Moon in Taurus aligned with Uranus, aspecting Venus, Saturn, and square the Lunar Nodes.

Uranus involved can indicate a period of surprises, changes, new experiences, and even excitement in some cases. Regardless of whatever shift that Uranus could bring, Venus and the Full Moon are also in a harmonious aspect with Saturn, which can still add themes around stability, realism, responsibilities, and commitments around relationships, friendships, values, finances, or anything to do with aesthetics or creativity. This period can be karmic and/or evolutionary, however we can also potentially feel pulled in different directions, and/or between the past and future. The energies of this Full Moon builds up in the weeks prior and also has a strong influence over the following few weeks, especially when some of this gets triggered again around October 30th-31st.

(I will be writing more about this Full Moon in separate article, you can join my mailing list here to be notified when it is published.)

October 25th – 27th  Venus conjunct the Sun (Inferior Conjunction).

This is a seeding period for areas of life ruled by Venus. Whatever is seeded at this time will build up towards a culmination that will occur in the summer of 2019. This exact alignment occurs at this time, however, the seeding energy can actually last from Oct 20th-31st. This can be a period of significant happenings, however, it is possible that whatever occurs may not seem so until later, perhaps even a few months after the retrograde ends.

October 30th-31st Venus opposite Uranus in Grand Cross with the Lunar Nodes, Venus semi-sextile Mercury.

This triggers some of the same energies of the previous Full Moon mentioned already mentioned. However, this period can be a bit more disruptive or surprising when it comes to Venus matters, and could require adjustments. Like the previous Full Moon, this period can be karmic and/or evolutionary, however, we can also feel pulled in different directions, and/or between the past and future. This can be good for some sort of clarification or communication around Venus matters.

October 31st/Nov 1st Venus retrograde enters Libra.

Venus returns home to its own sign, which can bring more harmony to Venus matters compared to earlier part of the retrograde. However, it is still retrograde and in close aspect to Uranus and the Lunar Nodes as mentioned, so it can still be a bit shaky for some people.

November 2nd – 4th Venus semisextile Jupiter and quincunx Chiron, with Jupiter Trine Chiron.

This can be a period of growth around Venus matters, however, it can also be a time where we need to make adjustments due to wounds and blockages around Venus issues. Jupiter is in a trine with Chiron this week which can be great for healing, learning, and having a greater awareness of our blockages and/or gifts.

November 6th – 8th Uranus square the Nodes while they all change signs. Jupiter enters Sagittarius.

The Lunar Nodes are going into the Cancer/Capricorn axis and will stay there over the following 18 months. This is beginning a process of changes of how we work with energies of these signs, pushing us towards being more caring, nurturing, and connecting emotionally with loved ones. Uranus changing signs could reflect changes, disruptions, surprises, and perhaps revisiting a theme connected to authentic individuality which has been playing out since 2011. Jupiter enters its own sign of Sagittarius where it will be until December of 2019. This is the beginning of a year long process that could be very expansive around our beliefs, perspectives, and could provide a lot of learning through our experiences, education, and travel. You may have already started noticing these energies beginning to play out sometime during the months prior to this date.

November 8th/9th  Venus trine Mars.

This energy can make us more active socially, romantically, and creatively. This can also stimulate sexual attraction.

November 10th/11th Venus semi-square Mercury.

This can be a more social time. Communication and mental activity around Venus issues could also be theme.  However, it is possible that there can be some difficulties or tension in these ways as well.

November 16th Venus Retrograde Ends Conjunct Spica, Mercury goes retrograde.

Venus comes to a stop and slowly begins to move forward while being blessed by a very fortunate star, Spica. Over the coming weeks and months, the chips will fall into place more clearly as a result of any adjustments or seeds planted during this retrograde period. However, Mercury also begins its retrograde period which is occurring in Sagittarius and Scorpio. This indicates another reorientation in our lives that could be somehow connected to what has occurred during the Venus retrograde.
