Solar Eclipse In Cancer: Addressing Our Shadows

We are having a partial Solar Eclipse in Cancer on July 12th/13th. It is a supercharged New Moon that not only influences this month, but also the following 6 months. The only place on land that it will be visible is the Southeastern tip of Australia, however, it will still affect everyone in some way.

This one marks the beginning of eclipse season which occurs every 6 months when the New Moon and Full Moon occur near the Lunar Nodes. Most of the time there are two eclipses, however, in this case there will be three; with this one followed by a Total Lunar Eclipse in Aquarius on July 27th and a Solar Eclipse in Leo on August 11th.

Eclipses reflect changes and shifts which affect the 6 months following and could also influence up to 6 weeks prior. You may not actually notice the effects around the time it occurs, but perhaps could feel it, and then see it actually play out in the weeks or months following. (Join my mailing list here to get my articles on the upcoming eclipses and other content).

Mars is currently retrograde (since June 26th) while Mercury is also slowing down to go retrograde on July 25th/26th. This reflects adjustments that are occurring this summer combined with the shifts of the eclipses. Mars retrograde is a period in which issues and developments around action, sex, aggression, anger, and desires could come up. Ultimately this is a period which facilitates a re-orientation of how we apply these energies of Mars. I wrote a full article about it which you can read here.

Solar Eclipse In Cancer Opposite Pluto In Capricorn

This is first eclipse in the Cancer-Capricorn axis of a series which will continue next year more strongly as we are also still finishing off eclipses in the Leo-Aquarius axis which began last year. This is the beginning of a process of shifts in how we work with the energy of this sign which also depends on where it is located in your natal astrology chart.

Cancer is the sign of nurturing, sensitivity, emotional bonding, family, and the domestic life. It is also associated with security, comforts, nostalgia, while also instinctual, protective and subjective. It can also be vulnerable, clingy, overly emotional and attached to the past.

This Eclipse is in a tight opposition with Pluto in Capricorn, which almost gives it the effect of a Full Moon although it is a New Moon. At worst, it can bring challenges connected to fears, our shadow selves, power struggles, control, hidden matters, and can stimulate the manipulative potentials of both Cancer and Capricorn.

Pluto has some similar properties to Mars as well, and considering that it is currently retrograde, we can see overlapping themes connected to intensity, anger, sexuality, and desire play out. Both of these planets highlighted now can also make people more edgy. With Pluto being in Capricorn and Mars retrograding back to Capricorn later, it’s also possible that some of the challenges and struggles that come up now could be connected to issues around structure, career, business, resources, or responsibilities.

Pluto also rules death and rebirth while Jupiter just ended its retrograde in Scorpio which is a Plutonian sign. At best this combined energy can help to facilitate growth associated with overcoming fears. It can also help to bring our shadow aspects into greater awareness and perhaps have some sort of transformational, empowering, or purging qualities towards them. When it comes to healing, both Pluto and Scorpio are about going deep.

Jupiter In Scorpio Is Now Direct

Some of the themes that came up in our lives in March when Jupiter began its retrograde may start to be resolved or move forward now and in the coming weeks. Or perhaps we may begin to take steps and move forward with anything Jupiter related. This could have anything to do with plans around travel, education, and experiential pursuits. In some cases, spirituality, beliefs, and philosophies can also be affected. Business wise, it could have to do with marketing and publishing.?

We could potentially experience a positive shift around the negative expressions of this planet which include overindulging, overdoing, judgement, and overlooking blind spots. Also, being in Scorpio, some of the Jupiter energies mentioned could be connected to money, investments, shared resources, deep understandings, sexuality, power, or transformation. We may also begin to progress with new developments or growth in these areas.?

However, considering that this summer we have three eclipses, Mars retrograde, and Mercury retrograde in a square with Jupiter, we can expect more changes, challenges, and shifts taking place that could also impact anything coming up now that is Jupiter related.

Earth Grand Trine With Venus, Saturn, and Uranus

Although this summer has some potentially challenging and irritating astrological energies, this specific eclipse has a really nice Grand Trine in Earth signs. Venus recently entered Virgo days before this eclipse. In this sign it seeks quality in Venus ruled areas of love, beauty, pleasures, friendships, and social dynamics. It can also be picky and critical around these things.

Venus’ grand trine to Saturn in Capricorn and Uranus in Taurus can have long term effects as Saturn is a builder and Uranus is forward moving. This can be a great energy for beneficial developments around social or love relationships, financial matters, or anything to do with aesthetics.

Uranus and Saturn are slower moving planets in comparison to Venus and will be in a tight trine until mid-September which in general is good for taking new, innovative, or unconventional approaches in our structures, business, careers, and responsibilities. With Venus in the mix now, it could bring creativity, friends, lovers, and social connections into that equation in some way.

Making Intentions And Things To Consider

Is there anything in your life calling for some sort of purging or transformation at this time? Do you have any fears coming up, and if so, how can you address them? Are there developments in your life pushing you to be more caring, nurturing, or vulnerable in a certain area?

What relationships in your life are worthy of building or exploring new territory with? What new developments or thoughts, have come up for you in connection to travel, education, experience, beliefs, or even marketing? If this applies, what steps do you need to make in the next 1-2 months in order to fulfil any of this?

These are just some examples of what to consider during this time. However, keep in mind that the energies of this eclipse will be a part of the backdrop over the coming months and there are still unforeseen developments that will occur this summer that will shift part of your direction, perspective, and how you assert yourself. The exact time of this New Moon will be at July 13th 2:48 am Universal Time, which is July 12th in the Americas. Click here to see what that is in your time zone.

Full Moon In Taurus: Finding Simplicity In The Midst Of Complexity

We will enter the Full Moon phase of the lunar cycle on November 4th at 5:23am Universal Time. For those in the Western hemisphere, it will appear fullest on the night of November 3rd. During Full Moons, we experience a push-pull between two opposite signs, with the Moon sign tending to exert greater force. In this case, the Moon is in Taurus and the Sun is in Scorpio.

We have been in Scorpio season since October 23rd, with Mercury and Jupiter also in place, both of which have amplified Scorpio’s energies, which are deep, transformative, intense, sexual, investigative, revealing, suspicious, mysterious, and sometimes fearful. Jupiter, the planet of expansion, learning, growth, faith, belief, and truth, is helping to highlight the positive aspects of Scorpio energies.

This could be an easier time to overcome fears, our perspectives can be enriched by profound discoveries, or we can grow in our understanding and expression of sexual intimacy and bonding. These are just some examples, but there are lots of other ways these energies are playing out as well.

The Full Moon occurring in the opposite sign of Taurus brings its energies to the mix, and they can work harmoniously with or oppose one another. The Moon is “exalted” in here, expressing itself with emotional stability and personal fulfillment. It can bring themes of comfort, sensuality, beauty, material pleasures, practicality, and peacefulness. It is about personal values and resources, while Scorpio is about shared values and resources. Taurus, on the other hand, seeks simplicity over complexity.

Full Moon in Aspect With Neptune and Pluto, Venus Opposite Uranus

This Full Moon is in a harmonious sextile with Neptune in Pisces, a combination that can flavour this period with serenity, spirituality, creativity, and flow. It contributes to both the easygoing nature of Taurus and also the mysterious side of Scorpio. Pluto in a wide trine with this Full Moon can be empowering, and can also accentuate some of the Scorpio themes. These aspects help to ease any potential challenges that can arise during Full Moons.

Venus, the ruler of Taurus, is in Libra while in a tight opposition with Uranus. This is touching on some of the themes shown in the previous New Moon. Uranus could bring changes, surprises, disruptions, insights, excitement, and in some cases, losses in our relationships. Other Venus-ruled areas such as aesthetics, money, pleasures, creativity, and social life may also experience these energies in some way.

However, the potential of any challenging manifestations of this opposition is minimized by the harmonious aspects of the Full Moon itself.

Saturn Finishing Its Exact Trine to Uranus and Square to Chiron

Saturn has been in a trine (by sign) with Uranus for almost three years and will continue over the next three years as they both transition into the next signs. However, since last December and through until later this month, this aspect has been exact/direct and therefore amping up its energy. Uranus in Aries can bring innovations, breakthroughs, renovations, independence, technological upgrades, and personal freedom to Saturnian themes of career, structure, commitments, and efforts. In Sagittarius, this may relate to learning, marketing, publishing, teaching, travelling, or anything involving national or international pursuits and interests.

Saturn has also been in a tough square with Chiron during this same period with Uranus still involved through a minor aspect. This energy may have brought a restrictive, realistic, or perhaps even disciplinary and constructive energy toward dealing with any blockages, wounds, or negative patterns preventing us from expressing ourselves at a higher potential. These could be minor for some people and deeply rooted for others. If deeply rooted, Jupiter in Scorpio can help to empower and transform some of the things holding us back and Uranus in a semi-sextile to Chiron can provide a liberating effect.

Things to Consider During This Period

What are your personal values and how much of them are being supported in your relationships? What can you do to bring more zen into your personal life or home to help offset the intensity and complexity of the external world? What opportunities, modalities, or applications have presented themselves to help you move beyond your personal blockages, wounds, emotional patterns, or attachments? What upgrades can you be making to your work, responsibilities, and structures?

These are just a few examples of things to consider during this period. Full Moons and the waning period following them can be a good time to initiate any sort of intentional releasing. If you wish to use this period in this way, the best time to do so is anytime after the exact time of the Full Moon, when it starts to wane. This Full Moon will be occurring at 5:23am Universal Time on November 4th, and you can click here to find out when that is in your time zone.

New Moon In Libra: Changes In Relationships

We are having a New Moon in Libra on October 19th at 7:12pm Universal Time. This marks a new wave of energy influencing the upcoming lunar month, yet the astrological configurations at this time will be the strongest over the following two weeks leading up to the Full Moon on November 3rd/4th.

Libra energies have been present for the last month — since the previous Equinox, which is when the Sun always enters this sign. As an air sign, it is social and intellectual. Libra is about all types of relationships, as well as balance, fairness, equality, and diplomacy. Consideration of others’ needs is also a theme, as well as anything to do with beauty, aesthetics, and even creativity and the love of art.

New Moon Opposite Uranus, Conjunct Jupiter in Scorpio

However, the Libra-related needs may be at odds with the opposing Uranus in Aries if both sides are not integrated. This is something that we have already been experiencing on and off since late last year, and also in recent months, during Jupiter’s opposition with Uranus in the same signs. Uranus in Aries is about freedom, breaking free, independence, rebellion, and separations, but in some cases it may even bring new ways of applying ourselves within relationships/partnerships.

This aspect with Uranus may also bring some surprises and sudden changes throughout this Moon cycle, which may be disruptive. This effect will be particularly strong at the time of the New Moon and potentially the day before.

Although this New Moon is in Libra, along with Venus and Mars later on, Scorpio energy will be very prevalent throughout this month, as Jupiter entered this sign nine days prior. Mercury also recently joined. The Sun will be there as well, three and a half days after this New Moon (on October 23rd), as it does every year at this time, but this time it will be joining Jupiter there.

While Libra is associated with relating and relationships, Scorpio represents the deeper aspects of these things, such as deep bonding, sex, and shared values/resources, along with deep desires, fears, intensity, investments, taxes, debts, secrets, hidden matters, suspicions, and mysteries. Negative Scorpio traits include jealousy, possessiveness, power, control, and manipulation over others. It is raw, primal, powerful, complex, and can even be profound and transformative.

Jupiter, along with being triggered by the Sun, is highlighting these themes. An example of this is what is being talked about in the media regarding sexual harassment in Hollywood. On a more positive note, we may also experience an expansive energy related to Scorpio themes. Jupiter is about learning and growing, so this can be a great time to apply this toward the Scorpio themes mentioned above. It can also be related to deep studies and deeper understanding of certain subjects and how things work, which can be done in a way that is penetrating and even obsessive.

Mars Entering Libra, Mercury Trine Neptune, and Venus Square Pluto

Mars is going into Libra on October 22nd and will be extending some of the Libra themes for a while, as it will stay there until December 9th. Traditionally, this is viewed as a poor pairing with Mars, which likes to be direct and assertive. Libra can be indecisive and likes to take things into consideration before acting so it can make both sides happy. Throughout this period, we may find that our actions require more deliberation, which can be more challenging for highly assertive people.

Mercury in Scorpio is moving toward a trine with Neptune that will be exact on October 24th. Mercury represents how we process thoughts and communicate, and when in Scorpio, can allow for deeper communication. Its trine with Neptune can deepen intuition and connection to the unseen and unconscious, as well as the thoughts of others. This can also be great for creative Mercurial communicative pursuits such as poetry, music, and visual arts such as photography and video.

Venus returned home to Libra five days prior to this New Moon and will stay there until November 7th. Despite the New Moon’s opposition with Uranus mentioned above, and some upcoming challenging aspects that Venus is making, this can still bring some harmony to our relationships and our social lives.

However, as we approach October 27th-28th, Venus will be moving toward a square with Pluto, which could trigger already existing Scorpio themes of jealousy, possessiveness, fears, as well as passionate intensity and obsessiveness in relationships. It could also bring challenging or hidden issues to the surface as well, and we may display compulsive behaviours toward loved ones. In some cases, financial issues, or anything to do with aesthetics, might become problematic in some of the same ways. Mercury will also be in an aspect with Pluto at the same time, which can reinforce some of things already mentioned but can also help us look at the issues from a deeper perspective, as it is also in Scorpio.

Making Intentions and Things to Consider

In what new ways can or should you express yourself in your relationships? What themes are being triggered at this New Moon now that are related to what has unfolded over the last few months, and what can you do to take a new step forward? What are the deep underlying issues at play here and how can you use this awareness to facilitate changes, transformations, and better decisions? What considerations do you need to make to ensure that you are taking a balanced approach in your actions? What is the root cause of your fears, obsessions, or compulsive behaviours?

These are just some examples of what your intentions can be oriented around, but they don’t need to be limited to them. The exact time of this New Moon will be at 7:12pm Universal Time on October 19th. You can click here to find out what that is in your time zone. It is best to make your intentions as close to the New Moon is possible, but they can even be done within the first 24 hours following. However, the best time for making intentions would be within the first half hour following or just prior.

Full Moon In Aries: Self-Interests Versus Considerations

There will be a Full Moon in Aries on October 5 at 6:40pm Universal Time. This marks the peak of the current lunar cycle, which started on September 20. During Full Moons, we experience a push-pull between two opposite signs, in this case the Moon in Aries and the Sun in Libra.

The Aries-Libra polarity has been somewhat of a theme since late last year, when Jupiter and Uranus began their opposition in those signs, which is currently concluding during the week of this Full Moon. We can look at this period as a sort of a finalization of this energy, which has been playing out throughout much of the year and especially in recent months.

Aries is about our self-interests, independence, pioneering, and leading. It can be impulsive and take bold action without much consideration. Libra, on the other hand, is about balance, fairness, relating, and overall relationship interests. Consideration of others interests, needs, and perspectives is what Libra does but it can also be indecisive and lack action.

This Full Moon is bringing these two sides to the forefront, and with Uranus and Jupiter’s opposition finishing up in the backdrop, the developments of this polarity playing out carry extra significance. Uranus’ influence in Aries brings themes of freedom, authenticity, innovation, revolution, and even rebellion to the table and also really emphasizes the independent side of Aries. While Jupiter can represent freedom as well, it is also wanting to expand and grow in relationships, partnerships, and bringing in balance. We may feel these sides at odds with each other, but we may also find a way to bring cooperation.

Venus Joining Mars While in a Square With Saturn, Full Moon Square Pluto

Interestingly, Mars and Venus, the rulers of Aries and Libra, are joining together in a conjunction in Virgo within a few hours of the peak of this Full Moon. This could signify and foster a ‘coming together’ of both sides, either related to our relationships or in other aspects of our lives. With Mercury also in Libra joining the Sun, communication and diplomacy is key as well as thinking in a way that is balanced, considerate, and with the details in mind.

However, we need to also consider that Saturn is in a square with Venus and Mars while Pluto is in a t-square with this Full Moon. In some cases a coming together and finding middle ground could work and really serve our evolution with its challenges and responsibilities, but in other cases it may not work due to restrictions or limitations.

Pluto in the equation can also bring power struggles, or there may be hidden matters involved in as well. However, considering that Pluto is in Capricorn and Saturn is involved too, this can be good for business matters. A lot of this energy will play out from late October 7 until October 12, especially on the 8th and 9th.

Jupiter Going Into Scorpio Until November 2018

Jupiter stays in a sign for about 13 months and has been in Libra since last September. On October 10 it will enter Scorpio, which last occurred in late October 2005 until late November 2006. It would be good to see what was going on in your life then related to Jupiter themes to give you an idea of how it can play out. However, keep in mind that the astrological energies are still different overall, but similar themes and areas of development could occur, as they will be touching the same area of your specific birth chart.

Jupiter is the planet of expansion, growth, the search for truth, exploration, travel, experience, and luck, but can also be about ‘overdoing’ as well. It brings this to Scorpio, the sign of depth, transformation, power, deep bonding, shared resources, and sex. Scorpio is associated with things that are hidden and therefore topics like astrology or the occult fall under this realm, as do secrets. Negative associations of this sign include the underworld, death, destruction, darkness, and manipulation.

Things to Consider During This Period

Which of your interests are important to you and is it possible to work on them while still considering the needs and/or responsibilities of your relationships? What details need to be considered? What needs to be communicated? What new approach do you need to take in your relationships or partnerships? What has come up in your life over the last few months and how should you take that into consideration?

If you decide to use this energy to intentionally release something from your life, it is best to start that when the Moon starts to wane after the peak of the Full Moon, or even over the following two weeks. The exact moment of the peak will be at 6:40pm Universal Time on October 5. You can click here to see what that is for your time zone.
