New Moon In Leo: Shake Ups & Realizations

We are having a New Moon in Leo on August 18th/19th, depending on where you are located in the world. It is initiating a 29.5-day Lunar cycle, however, the astrological configurations mentioned in this article will be more prominent over the following two weeks. This cycle will include a Full Moon in Pisces on September 1st/2nd.

The Sun entered its home sign of Leo on July 22nd and will be there until August 22nd. This New Moon will highlight its energy more so and extend some of its themes beyond its regular month long season. As a Fire sign, Leo is associated with passion, instinct, inspiration, assertiveness, courage, confidence, and spirit.

Ruled by the Sun, Leo is about shining authentically, leadership, creativity, vitality, and heart ‘centredness.’ Its energy is fun, playful, affectionate, generous, courageous, and romantic. It is associated with children, performing arts, sports, and self-expression. Expressed negatively, Leo energy can also be egotistical, conceited, dramatic, overbearing, stubborn, hot tempered, jealous, and demanding of attention or respect.

New Moon Conjunct Mercury, Trine Mars, and Quincunx Saturn

This New Moon is in a conjunction with Mercury (also in Leo) while in a trine with Mars in Aries. This combination is assertive, active, communicative, mentally stimulating, passionate, and initiating. This New Moon also occurs a day and a half after Mercury’s Superior Conjunction which is when it begins to travel ahead of the Sun.

At this point we can have more clarity around matters that have transpired in the last few months. There can be a change or some sort of progress in relation to what has been playing out.  It can even result in a beginning or ending due to increased certainty around certain circumstances.

Our minds can be more aligned with our true needs and we can better implement whatever we have been thinking about with greater confidence and direction. For some people, there could have been significant developments on August 16th – 18th that reflected that.

Although we may feel more active considering the connection with Mars in Aries during this lunation, it’s good to take into consideration that Mars is in its pre-retrograde shadow period. Some of what is happening will be connected to an adjustment and recalibration process in how we assert ourselves in specific areas of our lives over the coming months during the retrograde and post-retrograde period. I will be writing a separate article specifically on this, you can join my mailing list here to ensure that you receive it.

This New Moon is in a tight quincunx with Saturn in Capricorn. This can reflect hindrances that require adjustments. Saturn here can represent limitations, restrictions, boundaries, or obstacles that are challenging to incorporate and need extra effort to adapt to. This energy was also configured to the previous Solar Eclipse and therefore is a part of the astrological backdrop until mid-Fall with this lunation highlighting it more so for these coming weeks.

Venus Sextile Uranus Which is Stationary Retrograde, Mars Square Saturn

Uranus went retrograde days before this New Moon and has been nearly stationary in recent weeks and into the upcoming weeks.  Whenever a planet is transitioning from one direction to another its energies become more noticeable. Uranus is associated with surprises, sudden changes, liberation, rebellion, science, technology, innovation, metaphysics, experimentation, accidents, upheaval, sudden disasters, or things breaking.

It will be retrograde until mid-January, and it’s possible that we will see some sort of conclusion or important development happen then connected to certain things playing out this month. However, the retrograde process itself isn’t as significant as the retrogrades of the closer planets (such as Mercury, Venus, and Mars) as Uranus is retrograde nearly half of the time which is the same for the other outer planets.

Venus in Cancer is in a supportive sextile with Uranus during this New Moon. This can be stimulating socially or romantically and can be good for doing unusual or unconventional activities. Our interactions with others can have positive surprises or interesting synchronicities. This combined with all the Leo energy can also be creatively inspiring. Aesthetic changes or renovations can be favorable and for some people this can also be a good time for financial developments or approaches that are unconventional, technological, metaphysical, or experimental.

Mars in Aries is moving towards a square with Saturn in Capricorn which will be strongest from August 21st-27th. This can be a time of frustrations and obstacles that can be getting in our way especially considering that Mars is slowing down to go retrograde next month. Our tasks may require extra patience and effort during this time. Aggressiveness could be met with resistance or the need to address anger issues may come up. This is a time of asserting ourselves in a more serious, cautious, or realistic way.

Lunar South Node Conjunct Galactic Center

The Lunar South Node is in an exact conjunction with the Galactic Center in Sagittarius at the time of this New Moon and in the following week. The South Node is about the past and can bring out negative qualities and energies of a sign, planet, or point that could be holding us back unless expressed in a way that collaborates with the opposing North Node.

The Lunar Nodes entered the Gemini-Sagittarius axis in May and will be there until January 2022. During this time, there is a push towards new expressions, or positive qualities, of Gemini while there is a need for changes around negative or outdated expressions of Sagittarius. There will be both collective and individual manifestations of this.

Gemini is associated with facts, information, intellect, communication, the immediate/local environment, different perspectives, and is a social sign. Sagittarius is about beliefs, philosophies, faith, religion, media, expansiveness, the big picture, higher education, teachers/gurus, travel, and international factors.

With the South Node in Sagittarius we need to be cautious of the negative potentials of this sign being expressed such as opinions over facts, idealism over reality, generalizations over specifics, as well as self-righteousness, exaggeration, and judgmental behavior. These are some of the themes of the astrological backdrop for the next year and half.

Now considering that the South Node is currently aligned with the Galactic Center, the most significant point in the sign (and constellation) of Sagittarius, we should take that into consideration for the month of August.

The Galactic Center signifies many of the Sagittarius themes mentioned yet in a more intense way. It is associated with higher consciousness and centralized aspects of society. The South Node here can highlight negative or faulty expressions of these things. Its energy can bring challenges, pressures, destructiveness and chaos in order to change what is outdated.

Making Intentions & Things To Consider

What realizations or developments have come up for you in recent days and how do they tie in with what has been playing out over the last few months? What are some potential solutions to help you tackle obstacles, limitations, or responsibilities that you are being faced with? Do you need to be more flexible, adaptable, cautious, or patient? Should you liberate yourself from something that is getting in the way of some of your goals? What areas of your life are calling for more of a heart centered or playful approach?  How can you express your individuality more authentically? Are your unwavering opinions or beliefs getting in the way of seeing things from different perspectives?

These are just some examples of what to consider or focus your intentions on at this time. However, it is good to reflect on anything else that is coming up for you. It is generally best to make any intentions within the first 24 hours following a New Moon. The exact moment it will occur is 2:42am Universal Time on August 19th which will be the night of the 18th for those in the Americas. You can click here to see what that is in your time zone.

Mercury Retrograde Of Summer 2019: Checking In With Our Heart

Mercury began the latest edition of its retrograde process on July 7th/8th, starting in Leo with the majority of it occurring in Cancer. It will last until July 31st in the Americas and August 1st elsewhere. In the weeks (and especially days) leading up to it we start to notice its influence as Mercury slows down and comes to a stop before moving the other way. This is known as the ‘pre-shadow’ period which began on June 20th.

This retrograde occurs during eclipse season, following a Solar Eclipse also in Cancer and during a Lunar Eclipse in Capricorn. All of this happening in the same month indicates a period of readjustments and shifts in specific areas of our lives connected to these signs as well as how it all corresponds to our individual birth charts. You can read my latest eclipse article here and join my mailing list to ensure that you receive my next eclipse article and other future content.

If you have read my previous Mercury retrograde articles, the first two sections of this article are nearly the same and you can skip to the third section if you don’t want to re-read all the general themes associated with these periods. The other sections are more specific to this edition of it.

Mercury retrograde is known for the problematic effects it often has on communication technology, transactions, motor vehicles, anything with moving parts, and commuting in general. Some people even get headaches near the beginning of it. We could experience some challenges, misunderstandings, and errors around our communications, numbers/details, and commerce, as well as changes, cancellations, or delays in our schedules. We may also feel more challenged when we are doing excessive analytical work without using our internal guidance.

Mercury Retrograde can also be a good time to revisit or redo tasks, projects, ideas, or anything else that was initiated in the past. It can give us a different perspective or shift in thinking that can help us to approach these things in ways we wouldn’t have done so before. This may also be a period of reconnecting with old friends, family, sometimes lovers, or others you haven’t seen in a while. However, many times when we reconnect with people during a retrograde, there can be some issues from the past that can come up and may need to be resolved.

The Deeper Purpose of Mercury Retrograde

Ultimately, Mercury Retrograde is a time for us to recalibrate and adjust specific areas of our lives as well as how we apply our minds towards these issues. It is a period in which we may receive important insights and see things in a new light. In most cases, it can be mildly transformational, but in some cases it can facilitate more major transformations depending on how it corresponds to your personal astrological chart.

During and following the retrograde, certain areas of our lives can go through changes or shifts, or we can experience a reorientation of some sort which influences how we proceed over the coming months or in some cases, it can have a more long-term significance. In the 2 weeks afterwards, known as the ‘post-shadow’ period, we move forward with some sort of new awareness, adjustment, as well as new ideas and thoughts that have been seeded which will develop as time progresses.

The things that you have been doing or circumstances in the two to three weeks leading up to this period could determine how and where this energy plays out. It is also possible that there could have been changes or things that came up at that time which may go through a sorting out process. There could have been unknown variables, either positive or negative, that were either unseen or hadn’t been conceived yet, which may become apparent over the coming weeks.

The sign(s) and element(s) in which Mercury retrograde travels shows the energy we are re-orienting ourselves with. More importantly, if you are familiar with your natal astrology chart, than your house(s) or any planetary placements being affected will show more specifically what areas of life you will be experiencing its energy in. For the astrologically literate, it begins at 4’28 degrees of Leo  and will retrograde all the way to 23’57 degrees of Cancer, before turning forward again.

Occurring Mostly In Cancer and Partially In Leo, Part of a Water Sign Series

Mercury retrograde always happens in primarily one element for between 1-2 years. This is the second of a series occurring in water signs with the final one happening in the Fall of 2020. The water element is about emotion, feelings, sensitivity, intuition, and fluidity. This  period is about re-aligning ourselves with these qualities and expressing them in new or revamped ways.

This one is primarily a re-orientation of Cancer themes which is about nurturing, family, home life, comforts, security, maternal nature, caregiving, empathy, bonding and emotional connections with others. It is also associated with nostalgia and holding on to memories, especially those that are comforting. Cancer energy is also instinctual and protective yet can also be easily offended, moody, manipulative, vulnerable, insecure, smothering, too subjective, clingy, overly emotional, and attached to the past.

This retrograde is also partially in Leo, and although the Cancer themes are stronger at this time, the qualities of Leo can be tied into this period as well. Leo is associated with self-expression, standing out, playfulness, children, heart centeredness, creativity, leadership, courage, pride, affection, and romance. It can also be very egotistical, pretentious, attention seeking/demanding, and pompous.

Mercury Retrograde Significant Dates/Periods

Below, are some of the dates and information for some of the major astrological configurations during this retrograde.

*The dates below are based on the Americas. The further East you are located you may need to consider it as the next day.

July 7th-9th Mercury begins its retrograde in Leo at 11:15pm Universal Time on July 7th while in a conjunction with Mars, Venus sextile Uranus. Mercury retrograde themes (mentioned earlier) and complications may come up more strongly at this time as Mercury changes motion. You may get more indication of some of the things that may be playing out for you over the next month based on how you feel or on what transpires.  Our thoughts, communications, and even commuting can be more assertive. In some cases there can even be more of an aggressive tone potentially and perhaps ego based conflicts. The best way to utilize this is to use our drive and revisit some sort of creative effort or form of self-expression. Issues or developments pertaining to romance, sex, or children may also come up for some people. Some of this energy can get triggered again on July 10th. From July 7th-8th it is also possible that there can be some positive surprises around relationships, or even connected to finances. This period can also be socially stimulating and can also be good for new types of fun experiences.

July 8th – 9th The Sun conjunct the North Node opposes Saturn at the South Node. Some of the themes of the previous Solar Eclipse are triggered. We can be pulled between the future and the past. There may be developments connected to how we need to move forward but we may have to deal with obstacles connected to behaviours or ambitions that ultimately are not serving us anymore yet may still play out over the coming months.. Emotional, family, or home related issues may be at odds with responsibilities or outdated commitments. We can face some limitations, restrictions, and may need to get realistic about something. Some people may have realizations of a need to take a more caring or personable approach in their life or regarding aspirations. Issues pertaining to status may be source of problems. This energy will still be in the backdrop until early Fall when it gets triggered again, and some of the themes can even continue until mid-late 2020.

July 10th-12th Mars square Uranus, Trine Chiron and Mercury Retrograde sesquisquare Neptune, Sun trine Neptune. This can reflect potential disruptions or changes that can also be tied into Mercury retrograde related complications. Some people can act more impulsive, rebellious, or get easily angered. It’s important to be flexible at this time and be cautious with decisions as we can be more easily confused or not see things clearly. It may also be harder to focus. However, this can also be good for actions that are innovative, unconventional, or holistically oriented. However, from July 10th-11th their will also be some nice Neptune aspects which can bring themes of compassion, empathy, inspiration, selflessness, and oneness. Our intuitions can be stronger than normal and it can also be great for creative and spiritual pursuits.

July 16th – 17th Lunar Eclipse In Capricorn Conjunct Pluto, Venus conjunct North Node opposite Saturn conjunct the South Node. This Lunar Eclipse has potential to be intense and stir up deep feelings and strong emotions. Issues around power, shadows, or hidden matters may come up. The themes of this Eclipse could have already begun to play out weeks prior and may still unfold over the coming months. Venus in Cancer joins the North Node while opposing Saturn near the South Node. We can face some obstacles around relationships, values, money, or aesthetic related. Developments around relations that can be beneficial for our growth may come up, however, they may be at odds with some limitations, negative behaviours, or issues pertaining to social status or responsibilities. I will be writing a separate article on this eclipse, you can join my mailing list here to ensure that you receive it along with other content.

July 20th – 21st Mercury Retrograde conjunct the Sun, Venus opposite Pluto with the Moon triggering it. This is that halfway point of Mercury retrograde known as the ‘inferior conjunction.’ It can be a period of increased insights yet complications can also be stronger at this time depending on how you are applying yourself. Ideas and thoughts that are seeded now may develop over the coming months. Their can be some deep feelings, jealousy, possessiveness, obsession, power struggles, hidden matters, or other conflict in our relations. If so, there is also potential for it to be worked out and perhaps experience positive changes in some cases. This can also manifest as passion and trigger desires. This may also reflect a conflict or shift around values, and it would be wise to be cautious with finances at this time.

July 23rd-25th Mercury Retrograde conjunct Venus, Mars trine Jupiter. This can be a good time for connecting with others socially as interactions can be pleasant. Considering the retrograde, it can good for catching up with others that we haven’t seen in a long time and resolving any issues if there are any. In some cases revisiting any creative effort or aesthetic adjustment could make sense as well. This can also be a time in which we feel we have more energy or we are more confident and optimistic in how we apply ourselves. We may want to take action in a way that is expansive, explorative, and optimistic. However, keep in mind that in most cases it is best to wait to finalize any major decisions until after the retrograde is over unless your gut tells you otherwise.

July 29th-30th  Sun square Uranus, Near end of Moon Cycle and Mercury Retrograde. There can be surprises and disruptions during this time, so best to stay flexible and expect the unexpected. This can be good for doing things in a different and unusual way. However, considering it is near the end of the Moon cycle and retrograde, this energy is more conducive for some sort of release of separation from something than it is to initiate something new.
July 31st-August 2nd Mercury Transitions From Retrograde to Direct, New Moon in Leo with Venus Square Uranus, Trine Chiron. Mercury will slowly begin to move forward from August 1st onward. The areas of our lives that have been affected by this retrograde will start to become more clear and things will fall into place more easily as time progresses over the coming days and weeks.. However, usually the first 2-3 days afterwards can still feel like its retrograde and it’s usually best to wait until at least the 3rd day before finalizing decisions, agreements, etc.  The exact moment of the New Moon is less than an hour before Mercury ends its retrograde which brings an extra sense of going into a new and refreshed energy after what was experienced leading up to this. During these days, it is possible that we can also experience some surprises, shifts, or may want to liberate ourselves from a situation. There is potential for some sort of healing as well but we may also experience some instability. It can happen in different areas of our lives but it is likely that many people will experience this more around relationships, either socially or romantically. It can also be good for new and exciting experiences. We would also need to be cautious with finances as it can be a period in which we may experience loss or regretful impulsive spending.

Solar Eclipse In Leo: Evolving Our Authentic Self-Expression

We are having a partial Solar Eclipse in Leo on August 11th, 2018 which will be the third and final eclipse of this Summer. This is a supercharged New Moon which influences a longer-term period. It will be visible from Russia, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Northeastern Quebec, Greenland, Iceland, and Northeastern Asia.

Prior to this, we have had a Solar Eclipse in Cancer on July 12th/13th and a Total Lunar Eclipse in Aquarius on July 27th/28th happening in the same eclipse season. Solar Eclipses influence the following 6 months while Lunar Eclipses influence the following 1-3 months. However, they are part of a process that began in May 2017 when the Lunar Nodes entered the Leo-Aquarius axis which will last until this November. (Read more about the previous eclipses here).

The Eclipses and the Nodes in these signs are part of an evolutionary process in how we work with these energies. What results from this period will have longer-term effects even beyond this 18 month period.

The North Node has been in Leo, and this pushes us towards new directions in how we express Leo energies, while the South Node is in Aquarius which is more about what we need to let go of in how we express the areas represented by that sign. However, we can experience both beginnings and endings with both.

Solar Eclipse Conjunct Mercury Retrograde In Leo

Similarly to last summer, we have both a Solar Eclipse and Mercury Retrograde occurring in the same sign of Leo. This really emphasizes the re-working and adjustments of how we apply its energy in our lives. It is about how we want to shine in the world, our creative energy, and how we self-express from the heart.

Leo is associated with affection, children, courage, leadership, generosity, and playfulness. It is also about our vitality, passion, and being in alignment with what really lights us up and gets us excited. It is about how we seek praise and attention. The best way to approach that is to be our authentic and heart centred version of ourselves; whether it be in our creations, how we perform, or how we express other Leo traits previously mentioned.

The negative expressions of Leo can be egotistical, authoritarian, dramatic, stubborn, jealous, and hot-tempered.  It can demand respect without earning it and be too loud and boisterous without considering or caring about how others respond to that. However, the more we are working with Leo energy positively, we will attract a more positive and supporting response from those on the receiving end.

This process is about really tuning in to how we shine and express ourselves at our best. It is also about considering how we want to be seen in the world, yet, without being overly occupied with ideas of how we can get the most attention and praise. It can be good to take actions towards how we want to stand out, but it’s important to balance that out with our true authentic higher expression of who we already are.

On August 8th and 9th, Mercury retrograde made its exact conjunction with the Sun which is an important part of the retrograde process known as the ‘inferior conjunction’. Certain things that occurred during this period can help you have a realization in how you need to apply yourself over the coming months.

Reflect on your thoughts, conversations, insights, circumstances, and any other messages or realizations you received from the Universe at that time. Perhaps there was something that triggered you or got your attention? Whatever it was, it is partly connected to whatever shifts that this eclipse is triggering in your life.

Solar Eclipse and Mercury Retrograde Square Jupiter

Both the Eclipse and Mercury retrograde are in a square with Jupiter which ended its retrograde in Scorpio a month prior. Some of the Leo themes mentioned above, and what occurred on August 8th/9th, could somehow be connected to Jupiter ruled areas. This may have to do with an adjustment or developments connected to your beliefs, ideals, faith, and understandings. Perhaps it can be about having realizations of our blind spots or deeper truths.

There can be some sort of expansive energy around our self-expression or in the way we think. Maybe this can be connected to plans or developments around education, travel, marketing, teaching, and publishing. In some cases, it could have something to do with financial matters or sexuality. Whatever it is, it may be connected to something that was initiated in March, July, or sometime in between them.

This energy can also scatter our minds and communications. Mercury is also in a quincunx with Neptune which triggers confusion, distractions, and miscommunications. Our thoughts and conversations might also be at odds with our ideals, dreams, fantasies, illusions, or an expression of escapism.

Jupiter is making its final trine with Neptune in Pisces which began late November/December and was also strong in mid-late May. This can be great for any growth and expansiveness around spirituality, creativity, as well as selfless and compassionate pursuits. This can also be good for anything that involves visual arts, video, and photography.

Some people could have mystical experiences and perhaps some learning can occur through our dreams or connections to spiritual realms. This can be a time of heightened sensitivity. Considering that Mercury is in the process of changing motion when this energy is strongest (from August 14th – 23rd), it’s likely that the potential manifestations of this period will play a role in any clarity that we receive in how we need to move to proceed as Mercury begins moving forward after August 19th.

Mars Retrograde Going In Capricorn

As discussed in previous articles, Mars has been retrograde since late June and will last until August 27th, just after the next Full Moon. Most of it has been occurring in Aquarius, however, less than 2 days after this eclipse it re-enters Capricorn. Over these coming weeks, there could also be adjustments and developments in how we apply ourselves within the Capricorn realm.

It could be connected to our careers, responsibilities, goals, and overall ambitions. Perhaps revisiting how we can assert ourselves in a more orderly, practical, productive, conservative, masterful, structured, and disciplined way. Aquarius is about our social connections, while Capricorn is about resourcefulness, therefore this retrograde can be about how we utilize our social network and teamwork in pursuing our shared goals.

Making Intentions And Things To Consider

What is your heart calling on you to create? How can you express yourself as authentically as possible? What are you passionate about and how can you share that with the world? What has come up for you in the days leading up to this eclipse? What adjustments do you need to make in order to help you fulfill your heart’s desires?

What can you do to bring more joy into your life? How can you be a better leader and/or lover? What are the practical considerations at this time to help you fulfill your passions? What adjustments need to be made with your social network to assist you in fulfilling your goals?

These are just some examples of what to consider during this time. However, keep in mind that the energies of this eclipse will also be a part of the backdrop over the coming months. If you wish to make any intentions, it is generally best to do so within the first 24 hours following the New Moon. However, with this one specifically, it is most ideal to wait 18 hours after the exact moment of it when it occurs. The exact time of this New Moon will be at 9:58am Universal Time on August 11th. You can click here to see what that is in your time zone.

Solar Eclipse In Leo: Time To Shine In New Ways

We are having a Total Solar Eclipse in Leo on Monday, August 21st in the Western world, and in the early hours of August 22nd in the East. This eclipse has been dubbed ‘The Great American Eclipse’ as its pathway of totality will be cutting across the US from coast to coast. The peak of this eclipse and the exact moment of the New Moon will be at 6:30pm Universal Time, although the start and peak times of when the eclipse is visible depends on your location.

This eclipse will be visible throughout North America, Central America, and in the Northern part of South America, as well as part of Western Europe and the west coast of Africa. However, it would be visible only as a partial eclipse unless you are on the pathway of totality which travels through parts of Oregon, Idaho, Wyoming, Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee, North Carolina, Georgia, and most of South Carolina.

If you are located on the path of totality, you may be able to see Jupiter, Mercury, Mars, and Venus (in that order) in the dark sky as the Sun is completely covered. This will be a great sight to see if the conditions are right. Also, it’s very important to keep in mind that no matter where you are viewing the eclipse, make sure to be wearing certified viewing glasses when looking at the Sun as your eyes can damage without them.

Solar Eclipses are like a supercharged New Moon which occur every 6 months. They happen back to back with a Lunar Eclipse which is a supercharged Full Moon. Eclipse periods coincide with endings and beginnings and in some cases can feel like starting a whole new chapter depending on how they are influencing your natal astrology chart.

They can be a bit of a ‘wild card’ sometimes.  The energies are strongest within a month of occurring which is when related events or circumstances may transpire. However, the effects of eclipses can still manifest over the following 6 months and gradually leading up to it.

In the lead up to this, we had a Lunar Eclipse in Aquarius. Its energies signify changes around our friendships, associates, colleagues, groups, teams, or some sort of collective. It could even have to do with how we express ourselves in these dynamics, and also potentially lead to new growth in relationships and partnerships.

We started Mercury retrograde in Virgo on August 12th/13th which will last until Septeber 5th/6th when it will be in late Leo. Mercury Retrograde is a time of adjustments, insights, revisitation, and reorientation. The fact that this one is coinciding with eclipse season really emphasizes significant changes occurring between late July and late September, especially in the 2-3 weeks following this Solar Eclipse.

I also previously wrote an article covering this eclipse from a geopolitical perspective, and more specifically what is going on in the US and with Donald Trump, which you can read here.

Total Solar Eclipse Near North Node Is A Strong Significator Of New Beginnings

Solar Eclipses always occur when there is a New Moon near one of the two Lunar Nodes, which in this case it is the North Node. The Nodes are where the pathway of the Moon’s orbit crosses the ecliptic which is the pathway of the Sun from our (geocentric) perspective. The closer a New Moon is to a Node, the more totality/coverage the Moon will have in blocking the Sun making it more astrologically significant as far as changes are concerned. The other Lunar Node, known as the South Node, is always on the opposite side and sign as its counterpart.

The Nodes are an important thing to look at when considering eclipses. The North Node (in Leo) is about the future and where our evolutionary potential is at this time. The South Node (in Aquarius) is about the past and what potentially could be holding us back if expressed in a way that is inhibiting what the North Node is calling for. They entered the Leo-Aquarius axis on May 9th and will stay there until November 6th, 2018 extending those themes until then.

The last Lunar Eclipse (mentioned above) we had a few weeks prior triggered and initiated the Aquarian South Node side of this process. However, considering that this one in Leo is a North Node Solar Eclipse in totality, and the previous one was a partial Lunar Eclipse, the new beginnings surrounding the Leo energy are much stronger than potential endings signified by the Aquarian side of the polarity. It is probable that some of the developments and changes indicated by the previous eclipse could be directly connected with some of the new beginnings indicated by this Solar Eclipse.

Solar Eclipse In Leo Aligned With Regulus and Trine Uranus

Leo is ruled by the Sun and it is the sign of the creator, the performer, the leader, and the superstar. It is about love and heart centred self-expression, whether that is in our creative efforts, joyful activities, or in relationships. Leo is passionate, inspired, and inspiring, which is what earns Leo natives the spotlight they may crave. Leo is also associated with children and has childlike and playful qualities. Expressed negatively, Leo energy can be demanding of attention, egotistical, arrogant, and get too caught up in drama.

The energy of this sign can be expressed in different ways and areas of your life depending on how it is interacting with your natal astrology chart and the types of things that you do. For example; the Leo ‘performer’ theme may be expressed in the arts or in sports, or perhaps you are taking on a leadership role in your workplace, maybe children coming into your life somehow, or maybe you are doing something new regarding a hobby. These are just some examples of how this can play out, but many more potentials of its expression can exist related to the above mentioned themes.

This Solar Eclipse is aligned with Regulus, which is the brightest star that is closest to the Sun’s pathway (ecliptic). It is the ‘heart of Lion’ of the Leo constellation, which emphasizes some of the themes mentioned above. Traditionally it has been referred to as the ‘star of kings’ as part of which highlights the superstar potentials of Leo energy and could also suggest a theme of being the king/queen of our world. A negative expression of Regulus can be seeking revenge and going to war.

Uranus is in a very tight harmonious trine with this Regulus aligned Solar Eclipse. Uranus can bring excitement, innovation, revolution, authenticity, freedom, and the sparks of intuition and inspiration that could lead to revolutionary developments in our lives. It likes to challenge the status quo, take a more progressive approach, and could also be rebellious. Uranus also strongly emphasizes the new beginnings of this Solar Eclipse.

This eclipse is also separating from a quincunx aspect with Chiron which will be finishing a square with Saturn in the Fall. Although this eclipse can make us more bold and potentially have a liberating effect, there may be challenges and required adjustments when trying to incorporate the Leo energy while addressing our blocks, wounds, or emotional patterns. This theme could also come up from mid October until mid November at times in which we could go beyond some of these challenges if we apply discipline.

Mars conjunct the North Node in Harmonious Aspects with Jupiter and Saturn Going Direct

Mars is also in Leo not too far from where this eclipse is occurring, however it is much closer to the North Node making it a key planet to look at in consideration of the future. Mars is the planet of assertiveness, action, and desires. In Leo it likes to do things in a ‘grand’ way and with passion. This is about applying your drive and being active towards all of the Leo themes mentioned above in consideration of the future and your evolution.

Saturn and Jupiter, which both have opposing qualities, are making a harmonious sextile with each other and with Mars involved as well. This energy is strong during the first 2 weeks following this eclipse, especially after the 25th when Saturn finishes its retrograde.

Saturn is about commitment, structure, discipline, work, responsibilities, caution, and being realistic. Jupiter is about expansion, the big picture, growth, freedom, learning/teaching, morals, beliefs, travel, or anything to do with broadening your horizons. These two planets in a sextile with each other shows that these two energies are working in a compatible way and helps to provide balance between them.

For example, perhaps there is a theme of committing to, solidifying, or building towards something that can be expansive for you. It could also mean being able to more easily exercise caution while applying yourself in growing towards your goals. For some, it may be about moving forward with a realistic perspective or perhaps better defined beliefs, morals, or ideology.

This can also be good for commitments around relationships and partnerships considering Jupiter is in Libra. However, considering all of the Uranus energy at this time, partnerships and relationships will work best when there is something Uranian about it which could be exciting, electric, innovative, involve technology, or provide some sense of freedom.

Things To Consider and Setting Intentions

The last time an eclipse happened at this location of the zodiac was in August of 1998. In 1999 we also had an eclipse belonging to the same ‘Saros Series’ as this one. Depending on your age, it can be good to look at what has happened in your life during those years, especially in the second half of 1998. Some of the same themes that occurred then will manifest now, but in a different way as the overall astrology now is not the same as it was then.

Many of the themes related to this eclipse will be strongly activated during the first week or so of September. This is when Mercury ends its retrograde (September 5th) and stations forward at the same spot where this eclipse is occurring, all while in a trine with Uranus. At that time there can be new developments, and potentially surprises, that will help us in how we can proceed forward in our new beginnings.

What is your heart telling you to create at this time? What steps can you take to help you in fulfilling your passions? What possibilities out there currently excite you and perhaps make you feel more free? What is getting in the way of you expressing your heart more? In what area of your life do you need to be the King, Queen, or Superstar? How can you express yourself in ways that are more innovative, authentic and reflective of who you truly are?

These are some examples of what to reflect on during this eclipse and even more so in the coming weeks.
