Big Island Video News 9-1-18… Two remarkable videos… “Hawaii Volcano Eruption Update: Summit and LERZ”

These I viewed today, and they are remarkable drone views of both the Kilauea summit and the LERZ (Lower East Rift Zone). These include nice background music, and give some idea about what is happening now. They also point out that some parks of the volcano park are likely to reopen this month. The first video includes a time lapse sequence of how Kilauea caldera has collapsed during the past few months.

There is also an article about this, here at BIVN. Below the second video I place a segment from the article about the areas to be reopened on 9-22-18.

From BIVN article:

On Friday, the National Park said that it is preparing to reopen these specific locations on Sept. 22 by 10 a.m. HST:

  • K?lauea Visitor Center (closes at 5 p.m.)
  • Hawai‘i Pacific Parks Association store at K?lauea Visitor Center (closes at 5 p.m.)
  • Crater Rim Trail between Volcano House and Kilauea Military Camp
  • Sulphur Banks Trail
  • Crater Rim Drive to Steam Vents
  • K?lauea Iki Overlook and parking lot
  • Devastation Trail and Pu‘u Pua‘i

The Volcano Art Center Gallery and Kilauea Military Camp also plan to open on Sept. 22, officials say. Limited services may be available at Volcano House.

The entrance station will open by 10 a.m. on Sept. 22, and the park will go back to being open 24 hours a day. The National Park Service said:
