‘Ring Of Fire’ Solar Eclipse In Gemini: A Shift In Mindset

We are having a New Moon Solar Eclipse in Gemini on June 10th which peaks at 10:42am Universal Time. It will be an annular eclipse which is when the Moon almost completely blocks out the Sun with the exception of its outer edges. It appears like this because the Moon is near its apogee, which is its furthest distance from the Earth. This type of eclipse is also referred to as a ‘Ring of Fire’ due to it appearing this way.

The full annular eclipse will only be visible from parts of Northern Ontario (Canada), parts of Northern Quebec (Canada), parts of Nunavut (Canada) as well as Northwestern Greenland and a portion of Eastern Russia. It will be seen as a partial eclipse throughout most of Canada (with the exception of Southwestern part), the Northern half of Alaska, most of Eastern USA, parts of North Central USA, Greenland, most of Russia, most of Europe, and parts of Asia closer to Russia. However, from some of these locations the Sun will be barely eclipsed and with a shorter window to see it.

A Solar Eclipse is a much more significant type of New Moon which influences a longer term period then a regular one. This is when it occurs near the Lunar Nodes, which is where the path of the Sun and Moon intersect from our perspective on Earth. This happens every six months, along with Full Moon Lunar Eclipses happening prior or following. In this specific case we had a Lunar Eclipse in Sagittarius two weeks before this one. You can read more about that one here.

Both Solar and Lunar Eclipses reflect changes and shifts which affect the following six months and could also influence up to six weeks prior. You may or may not see the effects of it around the time it occurs, but you may feel it and then see it play out in the weeks or months afterwards.

Eclipses are always part of a series that occur in the same opposing signs for 1.5 to 2 years which is where the Lunar Nodes are for most of that period. The positions of the Eclipses and the Lunar Nodes reflect an evolutionary process in how we work with the energies of these signs and pertaining to the areas of our lives being affected (based on our astrological blueprint at the specific time of each of our birth). What results from a series of eclipses in the same signs over these approximately 1.5  to 2 year periods may have longer-term effects beyond the window in which they occur.

North Node Solar Eclipse In Gemini

The shifts reflected by this eclipse are connected to Gemini themes and areas of life, ultimately leading to a revision in how its energies are expressed. It is near the Lunar North Node which in many cases could also indicate changes that have an increasing effect on Gemini expressions.

This process is something that began a year ago and will play out until the end of the year. However, this energy will be the most prominent now, from late Spring to Early Summer. This is because it will be the only Solar Eclipse in Gemini (in this eclipse series) along with its ruler Mercury being retrograde here as well.

Gemini belongs to the Air element which is socially and intellectually oriented. As a Mercurial sign, it is associated with the mind, communication, information, words, writing, facts, curiosity, and commuting. Gemini energy is adaptable, dualistic, agile, versatile, rational, and quick witted yet can also be restless, scattered, duplicitous, overly talkative, and superficial.

Gemini correlates with our local/immediate environment, neighborhood, neighbors, siblings/cousins, communication devices/computers, childhood education, vehicles, and friends/acquaintances from earlier years. Gemini energy is also associated with LGBTQ+ matters as well the different expressions and orientations under that umbrella.

Solar Eclipse Conjunct Mercury Retrograde, Applying Square To Neptune

As mentioned above, Gemini’s ruler Mercury is also retrograde in its own sign of Gemini. What is very interesting is that the halfway point of this (three and a half week) retrograde process will occur hours after this eclipse. This is when Mercury is aligned with the Sun (and the Moon in this case), known as its ‘inferior conjunction’, and is a very significant period of the entire retrograde.

The ‘inferior conjunction’ is a time in which Mercury passes through the heart of the Sun  (from a geocentric perspective) and is symbolically seen as a ‘purification’. In our real world experience, it can be a time of ridding ourselves of certain thoughts, ideas, perceptions, old interests, expectations, or other things that are not serving us while the potential for new ones may be seeded. We may experience important insights that can contribute to this process. Although this technically occurs on June 10th/11th, these themes can also play out in the days surrounding this period.

Considering that this important astronomical event is occurring in the hours following the eclipse, this can suggest that the Mercury retrograde effect of re-calibrating our minds and perception can also be a major part of a longer term astrological backdrop over this following six months that is under the influence of this eclipse. This is a rare occurrence to have both of these happening at the same time, and what’s even more interesting is that it is all happening in Mercury’s home sign of Gemini.

The Sun and Moon in this Solar Eclipse are also moving towards a square with Neptune in Pisces. This can add to the scattering and lack of focus reflective of Gemini and the Sagittarian energy of the previous Lunar eclipse in the same nodal polarity. This can also bring confusion, uncertainty, and deception.

Facts, details, and rational thinking can be in conflict with illusions, fantasy, escapism, and ideals. Issues around lack of boundaries may also be a theme over the coming months. This energy can be good for creative efforts that are mentally or communication oriented, or spiritual practices that involve air such as breathwork and meditation. Some of this can play out around June 13th/14th when the Sun makes an exact square with Neptune.

Saturn In Aquarius Square Uranus In Taurus

This month Saturn in Aquarius is currently in its 2nd exact square with Uranus in Taurus which I have mentioned in previous articles. This started in February when the first square occurred and is present all of this year and somewhat next year. This month, especially from June 8th-20th, will be one of the stronger periods of this energy especially when it peaks around June 14th/15th.

This reflects tension and challenges between Saturn and Uranus themes or expressions. Saturn is traditional, conservative, serious, rational, and cautious. It rules commitments, maturity, responsibilities, limitations, restrictions, the status quo, the established order,  and structures. It is about patience, practicality, discipline, and boundaries.

Uranus is freedom seeking, detached, revolutionary, radical, rebellious, progressive, reforming, idealistic, unconventional, inventive, innovative, futuristic, and scientific. It represents new technology, discoveries, surprises, disruptions, and separations.

This configuration can play out as ‘old versus new’, ‘restrictions versus freedom’, ‘the status quo versus revolution’, ‘commitments/responsibilities versus liberation’, ‘elder versus youth’, ‘progressiveness versus tradition’ and so forth. This can also be a time of integrating Saturn and Uranus such as applying new, technological, scientific, or metaphysical approaches to help us with our work.

In some cases we can express a certain mix of combined Saturn-Uranus themes and be at odds with a different mix of these energies. Depending on the variables, this can potentially lead to contradictions or hypocrisy.

Venus ‘Out Of Bounds’, Square Chiron & Sextile Uranus

Venus, the planet of love, relationships, friends, social life, values, money, beauty, art, and aesthetics, went ‘out of bounds’ on May 23/24th which will last until June 17th/18th. This when a planet moves outside of the boundaries in the sky which the Sun travels from our perspective on Earth. This is about exploring new territory as well as going outside of our usual limitations and conventional ways of doing things in regards to how we approach Venus areas of life. This can also reflect seeing things objectively and from a different perspective.

At the time of this eclipse, Venus in Cancer is moving towards a square with Chiron in Aries which will be exact on June 12th/13th. This can bring up wounds, blockages, negative patterns, or can reflect themes around healing, holistic perception, or perhaps solutions when it comes to love, friendships, pleasures, values, or monetary issues. In some cases these themes may be tied into family matters, security, or emotional needs being at odds with our individuality and personal needs.

Venus is also in a sextile with Uranus in Taurus which can bring a new, stimulating, unusual, exciting, inspiring, liberating, unexpected, or unique energy around our relations with others.  This can also reflect surprises, positive changes, or freeing type of developments around financial matters.

In some cases it can be good for exploring new ways of making money that can be innovative, online, metaphysical, or technologically oriented. This will be strongest on June 13th/14th but it’s possible that our experiences of both this Venus-Uranus configuration and the Venus-Chiron one mentioned above may be intertwined.

Things To Consider

Is there something that you need to shift when it comes to your mindset? Do any of your perceptions, thoughts, ideas, or approaches to communication need to be revised? What has been coming up for you that can be contributing to this process? Is there anything that you need to change or adjust when it comes to your relationship with neighbors, close friends, siblings, or extended family? Are your sources of information reliable, factual, and rational? Do you need to look at things more objectively?

These are just some examples of themes that could come up during this period and over the coming months; however, there may be other variations of this energy playing out as well.  This isn’t a time to necessarily set intentions but instead to embrace the evolutionary process that eclipses facilitate. It will peak and reach its maximum eclipse at 10:42am Universal Time on June 10th while it will begin and finish approximately two and a half hours before and after. The exact moment of the New Moon will be 10:53am Universal Time. You can click here to see when the peak is in your time zone.

Solstice ‘Ring Of Fire’ Solar Eclipse: Going Into New Territory

We are having a New Moon Solar Eclipse in Cancer which happens on June 21st and the night of the 20th in the Americas. It will be visible from most of Africa, most of Asia, parts of Europe, and Northern Australia. This is an annular eclipse, which is when the Moon almost completely blocks out the Sun, except for its outer edges.

It appears like this because the Moon is near its apogee, which is its furthest distance from the Earth. This type of eclipse is also referred to as a ‘Ring of Fire’ due to it appearing this way. However, from most of the listed locations you can only see it as a partial eclipse unless you are on its path.

A Solar Eclipse is a much more significant type of New Moon which influences a longer term period then a regular one. This is when it occurs near the Lunar Nodes, which is where the path of the Sun and Moon intersect from our perspective on Earth. This happens every six months, along with Full Moon Lunar Eclipses happening right before and/or after.

Two weeks prior to this we had a Lunar Eclipse in Sagittarius, and we will have another Lunar Eclipse (in Capricorn) two weeks following. Join my mailing list here to get my article on the next eclipse and other content that I put out..

Eclipses reflect changes and shifts which affect the six months following and could also influence up to six weeks prior. You may or may not see the effects of it around the time it occurs, but you may feel it and then see it actually play out in the weeks or months afterwards.

However, eclipses are in the same opposing signs for 1.5-2 years which is where the Lunar Nodes are for most of that period. Some of the themes that are playing out could last that long. We have been experiencing eclipses in Cancer since summer 2018 and this will be the final one of this series as we are transitioning into Gemini-Sagittarius eclipses which is where the nodes recently entered.

The positions of the Eclipses and the Lunar Nodes reflect an evolutionary process in how we work with the energies of these signs. What results from a series of eclipses in the same signs over these two year periods have longer-term effects beyond the window in which they occur in. .

Solstice Solar Eclipse in Cancer, Mercury Retrograde in the Same Sign

The peak of this eclipse occurs nine hours after the initiation of Cancer month which is the Summer Solstice in the Northern hemisphere and Winter Solstice in the South, initiating the new season. This is when the Sun is directly overhead the ‘Tropic of Cancer’ which is the most Northern Latitude it is able to align with.

This is a highly significant point in the zodiac and within the Sun-Earth relationship in which the Tropical Zodiac is based on. Different cultures and groups have acknowledged Solstices as a spiritually and naturally important time of the year. They have honored and celebrated it throughout history as well as in modern times.

The Solstice energy gets configured to this Solar Eclipse making it extra significant. The first degree (beginning) of a sign and especially season, is associated with going into new territory. Also, considering it is the longest day of the year in the North, in which the amount of daily Sunlight peaks, it can also reflect some sort of climax as well. The last time we had an Eclipse like this was on June 21st, 2001, months before 9/11.

Some of the shifts reflected in this Eclipse and previous ones in the last few years are connected to Cancerian energy. It is just over 1 degree away from the North Node which is on the other side of the cusp with Gemini. This indicates changes and developments that have an increasing effect on how Cancerian energies are expressed.

As a water sign, Cancer is emotional, intuitive, and feeling based. It is about security, nurturing, sensitivity, bonding, family, domestic life, comforts, patriotism, and nostalgia. It is instinctual and protective yet can also be vulnerable, insecure, smothering, overly subjective, clingy, hypersensitive, overprotective, and attached to the past. Mercury is also retrograde in Cancer which emphasizes the shifts around Cancerian themes now and over the coming months. You can read more about that here.

Solar Eclipse Quincunx Saturn, Square Chiron, and Sextile Uranus

This Eclipse is in a quincunx aspect with Saturn in Aquarius which can make it complicated to integrate these Saturnian and Cancerian energies. This can reflect hindrances that require adjustments. Saturn here can represent limitations, restrictions, boundaries, or obstacles that are challenging to incorporate and need extra effort to adapt to..

This Eclipse is also in a square with Chiron and sextile with Uranus. Chiron here can reflect a time in which personal or collective wounds come up and pain can get triggered. With it being in Aries, it could be connected to identity, individuality, or individualism, yet can play out in other ways as well. We may need to address aspects of ourselves, or the whole, that have been fragmented.

The key here is to facilitate healing by addressing things in a whole-istic way and applying unique solutions that may involve bringing together different factors or components of something. The sextile with Uranus can be supportive in a way that is innovative, inspiring, original, revolutionary,  rebellious, and desiring of change.

This energy with Chiron and Uranus will come up strongly from June 29th to July 2nd when the Sun and Mercury are making exact aspects to them. This will be a significant part of the current Mercury Retrograde process as it will be during its ‘inferior conjunction’.

Jupiter Conjunct Pluto, Aspected By Mars

Jupiter is also in an exact conjunction with Pluto which is strong from June 19th until July 10th. This is the 2nd of a series of three Jupiter-Pluto conjunctions happening this year. The first one began in the second half of March when it was strong until mid April and the 3rd (final) conjunction will be in November. However, this conjunction is still an important part of the backdrop throughout most of  2020.

This can bring hidden matters to light and it can be a time of acquiring deeper understandings and perspectives. Issues pertaining to abuse, control, power dynamics can surface. This combined with Mercury’s ‘inferior conjunction’ from June 30th to July 1st can also have a transformational theme for certain people.

Mars in a sextile with this conjunction during this eclipse and days prior. This is good for assertiveness or action that corresponds with this energy or in some sort of persuasive, overhauling, or significant way.

Venus Going Direct, Mars Square Lunar Nodes

On June 25th Venus ends its retrograde and goes stationary direct, and slowly begins to move forward over the following days. Now, and over the coming weeks, certain Venus related issues will progress in a revamped way. It could have to do with Venus areas of relationships, love, values, social dynamics, finances, creative/artistic interests, or things that are aesthetic related.

There will either be more clarity, a different perspective, or a change in gears around what has come up in recent months pertaining to Venus. This is especially so from when Mercury ends its retrograde in mid-July until they both end their post-retrograde shadows in late July.

As Venus starts to go direct, Mars is also in a square with the Lunar Nodes from June 25th-27th. This is reflective of the energy of the previous Lunar Eclipse in Sagittarius and it can trigger some of those themes. The square occurs while Mars is at the last degree of Pisces which is also the end of the entire zodiac before beginning anew in Aries, Mars’ home sign.

This can be a period in which we may feel like we are at a crossroads between the past and the future. This in combination with Venus’ change in motion can feel like a transition. Perhaps the need to leave something behind, tie up loose ends, or move on from something hindering us may come up now to help us proceed with where we truly want to go.

Things To Consider

Keep in mind that Solar Eclipses are different from regular New Moons and they are not necessarily a time to be making intentions. It is best to just try to tune into it, such as in meditation, and/or pay attention to your feelings. Perhaps whatever is coming up for at that time can help you navigate the upcoming months to serve you in your personal evolution. The themes of the Eclipse will be connected to Cancerian energies, however, it also depends on how it is interacting with your personal astrology chart based on the day and time of your birth.

Here are some suggestions of things that you can be considering at this time and over the following six months. How can you adapt to obstacles you are being faced with? In what areas of life should you be taking new and unique approaches? Are there any deep wounds being triggered for you? What can be done to help heal and/or change a situation in a positive way?

What are your relationships with others trying to show you? Are there developments in your life pushing you to be more caring or nurturing? What has been coming up in your home/domestic/family life and what changes can you make to improve a situation?

These are just some examples of themes that could come up during this period and over the coming months; however, there may be other variations of this energy playing out as well.  The Eclipse will peak at its maximum at 6:40am Universal Time and the exact moment of the New Moon will be just over a minute later. The eclipse process will begin and finish almost 2 hours before and after. You can click here to see when the peak is in your time zone.

‘Ring Of Fire’ Solar Eclipse In Capricorn: A Shift In Ambitions

We are having a Solar Eclipse in Capricorn which happens on the night of Christmas in the Americas, and on the 26th everywhere east of there. It will be visible in parts of Russia, Asia, Eastern Africa, and parts of Australia.

This is an annular eclipse, which is when the Sun is almost completely blocked from the Moon except for the outer edges. This is because the Moon is near its apogee, which is its furthest distance from the Earth. This type of eclipse is also referred to as a ‘Ring of Fire,’ due to it appearing in this way.

A Solar Eclipse is a supercharged New Moon which influences a longer term period then a regular New Moon. This one marks the beginning of this eclipse season which happens every 6 months. This is when we have a New Moon and a Full Moon occur near the Lunar Nodes, which is where the path of the Sun and Moon meet from our perspective on Earth. It will be followed by a Lunar Eclipse in Cancer on January 10th/11th. (Join my mailing list here to get my article on the next eclipse and other content).

Solar Eclipses reflect changes and shifts which affect the 6 months following and could also influence up to 6 weeks prior. You may or may not see the effects of it around the time it occurs, but you may feel it and then see it actually play out in the weeks or months following.

However, each Lunar Node period lasts approximately 2 years which is when we have a series of eclipses re-occurring in the same signs, therefore some of the related themes that are playing out could last that long. The Lunar Nodes moved into the Cancer-Capricorn polarity in November 2018 and will be there until Spring 2020. The final eclipses in Cancer-Capricorn will occur in the Summer of 2020 and will influence the following months as well.

The positions of the Eclipses and the Nodes reflect an evolutionary process in how we work with the energies of these signs. What results from this series of eclipses will have longer-term effects even beyond this period.

Solar Eclipse in Capricorn Conjunct Jupiter, Trine Uranus, Square Chiron

This Solar Eclipse is on the South Node side of the polarity. The shifts that could occur, both challenges and developments, are more about  changes or what we need to let go of, in relation to the energies of Capricorn to help facilitate a different balance with Cancer.

Negative expressions of Capricorn could come up which would ultimately push these changes on us. However, South Node eclipses can also push us to work with its energies in a different and more positive way as well. The areas of life in which it manifests also depends on how it is interacting with your natal astrology chart/blueprint.

Capricorn is the sign of ambition, career, duty, business, achievement, responsibility, discipline, mastery, and governance. It can be calculated, practical, orderly, conservative, realistic, authoritative, controlling, cautious, and worldly. It is a social climber and concerned with status. Capricorn energy can be serious, cynical, cold, and unrelenting.

This eclipse is in a conjunction with Jupiter while separating from a trine with Uranus and square to Chiron. Some of the changes and circumstances that will occur over the coming months can be connected to Jupiter themes combined with the Capricorn energy mentioned in the above section. This planet is associated with beliefs, morals, education, aspirations, travel, foreign countries, publishing, as well as media and marketing. Jupiter is expansive yet also excessive and this eclipse can shift how this is expressed, especially considering some of the other things going on.

The trine with Uranus in combination with Chiron is good for originality or taking new or unconventional approaches to something. In can also reflect developments or actions that lead to some sort of freedom or liberation from something. Uranus is going direct in a few weeks and therefore some of this energy will get cranked up as we get closer to that period. With Chiron also recently going direct and configured to this eclipse, themes around healing, wounds, blockages, negative patterns, and the pursuit of wholeness may also come up.

Saturn Moving Towards Pluto, Also in Capricorn

Capricorn’s ruler, Saturn, is moving towards a conjunction with Pluto. It has been building up in recent months and will be felt more strongly in the following 2-3 weeks when it peaks. The aspect is something that happens every 32-40 years with the last one occurring in late 1982 while they were in Libra.

This combined energy can be heavy, serious, and can bring about some challenges. It can reinforce some of the changes connected to Capricorn and can also have a purging, transformative, or deepening effect on structures, responsibilities, boundaries, and duties. This aspect combined with the eclipse conjunct Jupiter can reflect letting go of what we don’t need and where we may be excessive. It can also push us to put more focus on what is important.

This can also be a time to address fears, obsession, compulsiveness, shadows, or hidden matters. Issues around power, control, abuse, or manipulation may also come up to push us towards a necessary change. With this occurring in Capricorn, we may see this play out in the news in regards to government, business, and perhaps areas of banking.

Mercury At The Galactic Center, Then Square Chiron, Trine Uranus, Conjunct Jupiter

At the time of this eclipse and in the days following, Mercury is aligned with the Galactic Center in late Sagittarius. It gets triggered by the Moon on the night of the 24th and early 25th, when the Sun is in an exact trine with Uranus. Thoughts, communications, and information may be oriented around the big picture, ideals, or subjects that are spiritual and of a higher consciousness. In can also be a time in which we can think about things in a different way. Uranus may also bring some excitement as well.

Mercury than moves towards a square with Chiron and trine with Uranus, after entering Capricorn. This is happening December 29th-30th, at the same time as the Sun conjunct the South Node. Some of the themes mentioned in the second section of this article may be triggered at this time. Issues of the past or obstacles that are getting in our way may come up. This is a period to think differently and perhaps do something to help liberate ourselves in some way.

Mercury will be conjunct Jupiter on January 2nd, with it building up in the days prior. This can be good for learning, seeing the big picture, short trips, and expansive conversations/thoughts. This may be a time of thinking about long term plans and aspirations, especially considering that it is in Capricorn. However, this aspect is also close to the South Node with Mercury joining it on January 3rd. Similarly to Dec 29th-30th, this can bring things up from the past and perhaps old behaviours or outdated goals that are getting in our way.

Things To Consider At This Time

Have you been experiencing or feeling a change when it comes to your ambitions, responsibilities, and aspirations? What aspects of your past or old behaviours are holding you back? In what areas of your life have you been too excessive and what can you do to be more practical, minimal, realistic, or disciplined? What are the important things/areas in your life right now that require more focus? Do you feel like you need to liberate yourself from something?

Keep in mind that Solar Eclipses are different than regular New Moons and they are not necessarily a time to be making intentions. It is best to just try to tune into it and pay attention to your feelings and what is coming up to help you in navigating the upcoming months to serve you in your personal evolution.

This eclipse will start at 2:30am and finish at 8:05am Universal Time with the maximum occurring at 5:17am. You can click here to see what that is in your time zone.
