New Moon In Libra: Relationship Healing & Growth

We are having a New Moon in Libra on September 28th in most parts of the world and on the 29th in Eastern Asia. This is initiating a 29.5 day lunar cycle and a new wave of energy for the coming month; however, the astrological configurations mentioned in this article will be more prominent over the following two weeks. This cycle will include a Full Moon in Aries on October 13th/14th.

Libra season began on September 23rd, however, this New Moon activates its themes even more so and imprints it into the Lunar cycle. This period is good for working with and co-creating with its energies and themes.

As an Air sign, Libra is socially and mentally oriented. Ruled by Venus, it is associated with relating, relationships, harmony, art, creativity, and beauty. There is a big focus on others. Libra is also diplomatic as it seeks to find balance, equality, fairness, and common ground.

Negatively, Libra can be overly codependent, passive aggressive, superficial, insincere,  indecisive, vain, and judgemental. Although this sign is about politeness and harmony, retaliation can be triggered when imbalance and unfairness is perceived. Libra is also associated with people-pleasing which can have either positive or negative implications.

New Moon Opposite Chiron and Quincunx Uranus

This New Moon is opposing Chiron in Aries which is currently retrograde. Generally, this Lunar cycle can be a time in which old wounds, blockages, and traumas may come up. They can get triggered through external circumstances and/or we may also be contemplating them internally. This can also be a time in which we can be proactive in addressing what’s getting in our own way to help bring more wholeness.

Considering that it is occurring in the Aries-Libra axis, for many people it can be connected to wounds around self identity, self needs, sense of self, independence, lack of confidence/courage, inconsiderateness, selfishness, and how this plays out in our relations.

This New Moon is also in a quincunx with Uranus in Taurus. This can reflect surprises, disruptions, sudden changes, accidents, breakdowns, separations, rebellion, or losses that can be an annoyance and may require adjustments. This energy is strongest on the day of the New Moon.

Venus Sextile Jupiter, Quincunx Neptune, Square Pluto

Venus, the ruler of this New Moon, is also in its own sign of Libra while making a sextile with Jupiter in its sign of Sagittarius. This can be an expansive and optimistic period socially, in partnerships, aesthetically, and even financially for some people.

Our relations can be a source of learning and growth. Social interactions may be based around beliefs. This can be a fun energy however, we can also be excessive when it comes to pleasures. This energy is strongest on the day of the New Moon but will still reflect the entire Lunar cycle.

Venus is also separating from a quincunx with Neptune in Pisces. In combination with the mostly positive Venus-Jupiter energies mentioned above, this can also reflect some confusion around relationship or financial matters. This may also play out as challenges or frustrations connected to escapism, elusiveness, intoxication, deception, or delusion. However, with this aspect separating, it is stronger in the lead up to the New Moon and dwindling following it.

Venus also makes a square to Pluto which is strongest from September 30th-October 1st. At best, this can reflect passion, depth, and positive changes in our relations, romantically, or creatively. It can also be good for making some sort of aesthetic makeover, or purging items no longer needed. However, this can also play out as intensity, power struggles, or other types of conflicts.

Saturn’s Final Conjunction To The South Node, Pluto Going Direct

Saturn recently ended its retrograde on September 18th and has been in its final conjunction with the South Node since then and into the week following this New Moon. This energy was also strong in mid Spring (when it began) and in early Summer.

Ultimately this is about endings pertaining to issues, behaviors, commitments, responsibilities, or other things connected to your past that are no longer serving you. It could have to do with career, ambitions, social status, structures, boundaries, limitations, management, or even a financial framework.

For some people, it’s possible that you may have got pulled into something this past spring that is connected to some aspect of your life (or behavior)  that needs to be released. If that applies to you, then it is likely you are now experiencing the conclusion of this process that you needed to experience.

Pluto is slowing down to end its retrograde and begin moving forward again on October 3rd. Now and over the coming weeks, its energies will be strong. Pluto is associated with power, regeneration, purging, sex, transformation, desires, jealousy, underworld, manipulation, hidden matters, secrets, obsessions, compulsiveness, intensity, repressed feelings, taboos, and subversion.

During this time we can also experience a conclusion to a Pluto process that began in April and may also be connected to the Saturn-South Node themes (mentioned above) which were initiated around the same time.

Making Intentions and Things To Consider

What can you do to improve your relations with others? Is this a good time to expand your social network? Are there any wounds, blocks, traumas, or hurts that are getting in the way of achieving harmony in relationships? Is there any part of your life that requires more balance or fairness? Is there something that you want to improve aesthetically? What part of your life is calling for some sort of ending and perhaps even empowerment?

These are just some examples of what to consider or focus your intentions on at this time; however, it is good to reflect on anything else that is coming up for you. It is generally best to make any intentions within the first 24 hours following a New Moon. The exact moment of it will be occurring at 6:26pm Universal Time on September 28th.  You can click here to see what that is in your time zone.

New Moon In Virgo: Getting Things Done

We are having a New Moon in Virgo on September 9th, 2018 at 6:02pm Universal Time. This is initiating a 29.5 day Lunar cycle and a new wave of energy for the coming month. This cycle will peak at the Full Moon that is occurring on September 24th/25th.

We have been in Virgo season since August 23rd with its ruler Mercury also there since September 5th/6th. Virgo is one of three Earth signs which are  practical, realistic, grounded, and have a stronger orientation and sense toward the physical/material world. Compared to the other Earth signs, it is mutable and ruled by Mercury which makes it more adaptable, multitasking, problem solving, and mentally oriented.

Virgo is a task oriented sign. It is about the work that needs to get done, how we take care of our bodies and health, how we organize our lives, how efficient and sustainable we are, and how we can be of service. Virgo is analytical, orderly, systematic, meticulous, clean, pure, discriminating, and the perfectionist. It can also be overly critical, fault finding, irritable, and restless.

It’s interesting to note that in the Northern Hemisphere, Virgo season is the last month of Summer with Autumn beginning the last week of September. However I find that the majority of people view early September (or even late August) as the end of Summer. This is partly because Virgo season is less about fun (like the previous sign Leo is) and more about getting to work. Part of this has to do with school beginning for most people which is ultimately a reflection of Virgo season.

New Moon In Harmonious Aspects With Jupiter And Pluto

Jupiter in Scorpio is finishing off its sextile with Pluto in Capricorn. It was strong in January when it began and in April during Jupiter’s retrograde. It is possible that now we can experience a conclusion process in relation to what was occuring or initiating during those periods.  This New Moon is in a direct aspect with these planets and brings its own Virgoan energy into the equation.

This sextile with Jupiter and Pluto can be empowering and transformative both in our personal development or even financially in some cases. It can also facilitate in our quest for deeper understandings, truths, and can also reveal things that were hidden. It can even reflect growth around sexuality, finances, and how we use our power.

Considering that the New Moon in Virgo is collaborating with this energy, some of the themes mentioned in the previous paragraph could be connected to our work, duties, lifestyle, and health. Some people may notice this through positive and strengthening career developments,. Jupiter in Scorpio can open some doors through shared or borrowed resources becoming available.

Venus Square Mars While Both In Transition

At the time of this New Moon, Venus is on the cusp of Libra/Scorpio while it is in a square with Mars which is on the cusp of Capricorn/Aquarius. Mars recently finished its retrograde and is still in its post shadow period while Venus is slowing down to go retrograde in early October. This combined with the fact that they are both changing signs in the same period signifies a time of transitions regarding Venus and Mars energies.

We are in a period in which we are integrating and moving forward with some of the Mars Retrograde lessons, themes, and developments which occurred this past summer. It could have to do with how we assert ourselves, how we take action, how we deal anger/aggression, and could also have to do with sexuality.

With Venus preparing to go retrograde in both Libra and Scorpio, we will gradually experience new developments around love, relationships, sex, values, beauty, creativity, and even financially. This will set the stage for necessary adjustments during the retrograde and post-retrograde period from October to December.

This square between Venus and Mars could be about how we are applying our recent Mars lessons and reorientations towards the mentioned Venus related areas which will undergo its own recalibration process. This energy can also be passionate yet intense when it comes to matters of love. Some people may experience a conflict between love and sex.

Venus and Mars Also Applying A Hard Aspect With Uranus

The Venus square Mars aspect mentioned above is also interacting with Uranus which can also bring sudden changes, instability, disruptions, loss, separations, and rebelliousness in relationships or even financially. Challenges around freedom may come up. This can also reflect new and exciting energy around relations or pleasurable pursuits.

However, we can be impulsive when it comes to seeking pleasures or spending money, and would be wise to think things through before doing something you might regret.. This energy is strongest around September 11th-12th, and can also play out from September 17th-19th.

Mercury and New Moon in Virgo Opposing Neptune in Pisces

In the days prior to this New Moon, the Sun in Virgo made an opposition with Neptune while Mercury also in Virgo will do the same around September 13th-14th. Although Virgoan energy is detailed, focused, and hard working, the Neptune influence can bring an element of confusion, dreamy or delusional thinking, mental laziness, and perhaps even carelessness.

Communications with others may not be clear or perhaps we may not say things correctly, and is also not the most ideal time to make agreements. This is kind of similar to Mercury retrograde. However, this can be great for applying our mind towards creative or imaginative efforts.

Saturn Just Ended Its Retrograde While In A Trine With Uranus

On September 6th, Saturn ended its retrograde which began on April 17th. Theses transition periods are when the energy of the planet becomes more apparent, in the weeks before and after the change in motion. We may experience developments or feelings connected to Saturn themes.

Saturn rules responsibility, commitment, discipline, duty, effort, boundaries, as well as cautious and conservative approaches. It is in its own sign of Capricorn, which is about ambition, hard work, mastery, goals, career, and status.

Saturn has been getting close to a trine with Uranus in Taurus in the past few weeks and will separate over the coming weeks. This is good for trying new, innovative, or technological approaches towards our work, responsibilities, routines, and perhaps lifestyle in some cases. Their can also be developments that can give us more freedom.

Making Intentions And Things To Consider

What can you do to organize your life and manage your tasks better? What steps should you take to improve your health and lifestyle? Is there anything playing out now connected to a process that began in January which can help you to move forward in a more empowered way?

How should you proceed forward based on the developments that have come up for you in the last week in relation to your responsibilities, commitments, and career? What actions can you take to help you feel more liberated?

These are just some examples of what to consider or focus your intentions on at this time, however, it is good to reflect on anything else that is coming up for you. It is generally best to make any intentions within the first 24 hours following a New Moon. However, the closer to the New Moon the better and can be as early as 30 minutes prior to the exact moment of it. This New Moon will be occurring at 6:02pm Universal Time. You can click here to see what that is in your time zone.

Solar Eclipse In Leo: Time To Shine In New Ways

We are having a Total Solar Eclipse in Leo on Monday, August 21st in the Western world, and in the early hours of August 22nd in the East. This eclipse has been dubbed ‘The Great American Eclipse’ as its pathway of totality will be cutting across the US from coast to coast. The peak of this eclipse and the exact moment of the New Moon will be at 6:30pm Universal Time, although the start and peak times of when the eclipse is visible depends on your location.

This eclipse will be visible throughout North America, Central America, and in the Northern part of South America, as well as part of Western Europe and the west coast of Africa. However, it would be visible only as a partial eclipse unless you are on the pathway of totality which travels through parts of Oregon, Idaho, Wyoming, Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee, North Carolina, Georgia, and most of South Carolina.

If you are located on the path of totality, you may be able to see Jupiter, Mercury, Mars, and Venus (in that order) in the dark sky as the Sun is completely covered. This will be a great sight to see if the conditions are right. Also, it’s very important to keep in mind that no matter where you are viewing the eclipse, make sure to be wearing certified viewing glasses when looking at the Sun as your eyes can damage without them.

Solar Eclipses are like a supercharged New Moon which occur every 6 months. They happen back to back with a Lunar Eclipse which is a supercharged Full Moon. Eclipse periods coincide with endings and beginnings and in some cases can feel like starting a whole new chapter depending on how they are influencing your natal astrology chart.

They can be a bit of a ‘wild card’ sometimes.  The energies are strongest within a month of occurring which is when related events or circumstances may transpire. However, the effects of eclipses can still manifest over the following 6 months and gradually leading up to it.

In the lead up to this, we had a Lunar Eclipse in Aquarius. Its energies signify changes around our friendships, associates, colleagues, groups, teams, or some sort of collective. It could even have to do with how we express ourselves in these dynamics, and also potentially lead to new growth in relationships and partnerships.

We started Mercury retrograde in Virgo on August 12th/13th which will last until Septeber 5th/6th when it will be in late Leo. Mercury Retrograde is a time of adjustments, insights, revisitation, and reorientation. The fact that this one is coinciding with eclipse season really emphasizes significant changes occurring between late July and late September, especially in the 2-3 weeks following this Solar Eclipse.

I also previously wrote an article covering this eclipse from a geopolitical perspective, and more specifically what is going on in the US and with Donald Trump, which you can read here.

Total Solar Eclipse Near North Node Is A Strong Significator Of New Beginnings

Solar Eclipses always occur when there is a New Moon near one of the two Lunar Nodes, which in this case it is the North Node. The Nodes are where the pathway of the Moon’s orbit crosses the ecliptic which is the pathway of the Sun from our (geocentric) perspective. The closer a New Moon is to a Node, the more totality/coverage the Moon will have in blocking the Sun making it more astrologically significant as far as changes are concerned. The other Lunar Node, known as the South Node, is always on the opposite side and sign as its counterpart.

The Nodes are an important thing to look at when considering eclipses. The North Node (in Leo) is about the future and where our evolutionary potential is at this time. The South Node (in Aquarius) is about the past and what potentially could be holding us back if expressed in a way that is inhibiting what the North Node is calling for. They entered the Leo-Aquarius axis on May 9th and will stay there until November 6th, 2018 extending those themes until then.

The last Lunar Eclipse (mentioned above) we had a few weeks prior triggered and initiated the Aquarian South Node side of this process. However, considering that this one in Leo is a North Node Solar Eclipse in totality, and the previous one was a partial Lunar Eclipse, the new beginnings surrounding the Leo energy are much stronger than potential endings signified by the Aquarian side of the polarity. It is probable that some of the developments and changes indicated by the previous eclipse could be directly connected with some of the new beginnings indicated by this Solar Eclipse.

Solar Eclipse In Leo Aligned With Regulus and Trine Uranus

Leo is ruled by the Sun and it is the sign of the creator, the performer, the leader, and the superstar. It is about love and heart centred self-expression, whether that is in our creative efforts, joyful activities, or in relationships. Leo is passionate, inspired, and inspiring, which is what earns Leo natives the spotlight they may crave. Leo is also associated with children and has childlike and playful qualities. Expressed negatively, Leo energy can be demanding of attention, egotistical, arrogant, and get too caught up in drama.

The energy of this sign can be expressed in different ways and areas of your life depending on how it is interacting with your natal astrology chart and the types of things that you do. For example; the Leo ‘performer’ theme may be expressed in the arts or in sports, or perhaps you are taking on a leadership role in your workplace, maybe children coming into your life somehow, or maybe you are doing something new regarding a hobby. These are just some examples of how this can play out, but many more potentials of its expression can exist related to the above mentioned themes.

This Solar Eclipse is aligned with Regulus, which is the brightest star that is closest to the Sun’s pathway (ecliptic). It is the ‘heart of Lion’ of the Leo constellation, which emphasizes some of the themes mentioned above. Traditionally it has been referred to as the ‘star of kings’ as part of which highlights the superstar potentials of Leo energy and could also suggest a theme of being the king/queen of our world. A negative expression of Regulus can be seeking revenge and going to war.

Uranus is in a very tight harmonious trine with this Regulus aligned Solar Eclipse. Uranus can bring excitement, innovation, revolution, authenticity, freedom, and the sparks of intuition and inspiration that could lead to revolutionary developments in our lives. It likes to challenge the status quo, take a more progressive approach, and could also be rebellious. Uranus also strongly emphasizes the new beginnings of this Solar Eclipse.

This eclipse is also separating from a quincunx aspect with Chiron which will be finishing a square with Saturn in the Fall. Although this eclipse can make us more bold and potentially have a liberating effect, there may be challenges and required adjustments when trying to incorporate the Leo energy while addressing our blocks, wounds, or emotional patterns. This theme could also come up from mid October until mid November at times in which we could go beyond some of these challenges if we apply discipline.

Mars conjunct the North Node in Harmonious Aspects with Jupiter and Saturn Going Direct

Mars is also in Leo not too far from where this eclipse is occurring, however it is much closer to the North Node making it a key planet to look at in consideration of the future. Mars is the planet of assertiveness, action, and desires. In Leo it likes to do things in a ‘grand’ way and with passion. This is about applying your drive and being active towards all of the Leo themes mentioned above in consideration of the future and your evolution.

Saturn and Jupiter, which both have opposing qualities, are making a harmonious sextile with each other and with Mars involved as well. This energy is strong during the first 2 weeks following this eclipse, especially after the 25th when Saturn finishes its retrograde.

Saturn is about commitment, structure, discipline, work, responsibilities, caution, and being realistic. Jupiter is about expansion, the big picture, growth, freedom, learning/teaching, morals, beliefs, travel, or anything to do with broadening your horizons. These two planets in a sextile with each other shows that these two energies are working in a compatible way and helps to provide balance between them.

For example, perhaps there is a theme of committing to, solidifying, or building towards something that can be expansive for you. It could also mean being able to more easily exercise caution while applying yourself in growing towards your goals. For some, it may be about moving forward with a realistic perspective or perhaps better defined beliefs, morals, or ideology.

This can also be good for commitments around relationships and partnerships considering Jupiter is in Libra. However, considering all of the Uranus energy at this time, partnerships and relationships will work best when there is something Uranian about it which could be exciting, electric, innovative, involve technology, or provide some sense of freedom.

Things To Consider and Setting Intentions

The last time an eclipse happened at this location of the zodiac was in August of 1998. In 1999 we also had an eclipse belonging to the same ‘Saros Series’ as this one. Depending on your age, it can be good to look at what has happened in your life during those years, especially in the second half of 1998. Some of the same themes that occurred then will manifest now, but in a different way as the overall astrology now is not the same as it was then.

Many of the themes related to this eclipse will be strongly activated during the first week or so of September. This is when Mercury ends its retrograde (September 5th) and stations forward at the same spot where this eclipse is occurring, all while in a trine with Uranus. At that time there can be new developments, and potentially surprises, that will help us in how we can proceed forward in our new beginnings.

What is your heart telling you to create at this time? What steps can you take to help you in fulfilling your passions? What possibilities out there currently excite you and perhaps make you feel more free? What is getting in the way of you expressing your heart more? In what area of your life do you need to be the King, Queen, or Superstar? How can you express yourself in ways that are more innovative, authentic and reflective of who you truly are?

These are some examples of what to reflect on during this eclipse and even more so in the coming weeks. If you wish to do your New Moon intentions for this eclipse, it is best to make them within the following 24 hours, as close to the New Moon/Eclipse as possible. You can click here to see what that is for your time zone. If you wish to know the times and specifics around viewing the eclipse in your region, you can find that here.
