Study Uncovers How Coca-Cola Influences Science Research

DISCOVER — Coca-Cola has poured millions of dollars into scientific research at universities. But if the beverage giant doesn’t like what scientists find, the company has the power to make sure that their research never sees the light of day.

That’s according to an analysis published in the Journal of Public Health Policy that explains how Coca-Cola uses contract agreements to influence the public health research it financially supports.

The paper explains that Coca-Cola uses carefully-constructed contracts to ensure that the company gets early access to research findings, as well as the ability to terminate studies for any reason. Researchers say this gives the beverage company the ability to squash unfavorable research findings, such as studies that connect the consumption of sugar-sweetened beverages to obesity.

The study’s authors are affiliated with the University of Cambridge, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, University of Bocconi, and U.S. Right to Know, a nonprofit organization that advocates for greater transparency in the food system. They based their report on Coca-Cola research contracts obtained through numerous Freedom of Information requests, which uncovered over 87,000 pages of documents. How Can You Benefit From Vitamin B12?

What Is Vitamin B12?

Vitamin B12, or cobalamin, is a B vitamin necessary for cardiovascular and cognitive health. It helps produce hemoglobin, improve nerve strength and regulate homocysteine levels.5,6,7 Homocysteine is an amino acid produced by the body, which in large amounts can increase the risk for heart attacks and strokes. Vitamin B12 works by making sure that your body uses the homocysteine in your blood.8

Unfortunately, the human body cannot produce vitamin B12, and mainly depends on your diet to get ample supply. Vitamin B12 is naturally produced by anaerobic microorganisms commonly found in the gastrointestinal tract of animals.9 This means that the majority of B12 sources are either meat or poultry products, which is why many vegetarians and vegans are typically lacking this nutrient.

Vitamin B12 Sources: Where Can You Get It?

Animal products — whether dairy, poultry or meat — are excellent sources of vitamin B12. If you suspect you’re not getting enough vitamin B12 into your system, here are some foods you should consider adding to your diet (make sure that you’re getting these from high-quality sources to keep yourself safe from chemicals and other harmful materials used in conventional farms):10

Because the bulk of this vitamin’s source is meat, people who do not eat meat products may be more susceptible to B12 deficiency. Options for vegans and vegetarians include B12 capsules and shots. However, you should pay attention to the type of B12 used in these products to make sure that you’re getting the form your body needs. Two types of vitamin B12 available are:11

  • Cyanocobalamin — This is the most popular type of vitamin B12 available because it’s cheaper and easier to produce. Cyanocobalamin is synthesized in laboratories and does not naturally occur in the human body. Once it is introduced to your system, your body then converts it into methylcobalamin.12
  • Methylcobalamin — This type is the active form of vitamin. I recommend looking for B12 supplements that use this type because research shows that this form of vitamin B12 has been used to manage pain, promoting nerve health and addressing sleep-wake rhythm problems.13

What Is B12 Deficiency and Is It Serious?

Vitamin B12 deficiency is prevalent among vegetarians and the elderly.14 It’s been linked to the onset of megaloblastic anemia, brain fog and heart disease. While there have been multiple proposed vegan alternative sources for vitamin B12 like tempeh, spirulina and green leafy vegetables, the amounts in these foods are insignificant and do not provide the body with the levels that it requires.15

For older age groups, vitamin B12 is often caused by the decreased ability of the digestive system to absorb nutrients. This means that even if you optimize your diet to contain high amounts of B12, most of it passes the digestive system unabsorbed.

The first noticeable symptoms of vitamin B12 deficiency are changes in mood, fatigue, weight loss and tingling in your limbs.16 Other symptoms include the following:

  • Megaloblastic anemia — This is a type of anemia caused by your cells’ inability to synthesize DNA during red blood cell production, inhibiting nuclear division. Some of the telltale symptoms of megaloblastic anemia include shortness of breath, muscle weakness, nausea and palpitation.17
  • Jaundice — This is characterized by the abnormal yellowing of the eyes and skin, which is caused by the high amounts of the bilirubin pigment being released from the destruction of the fragile red blood cells18 brought on by low vitamin B12 levels.19
  • Memory loss or cognitive difficulties — Studies show that the presence of low to normal levels of B12 in the body can lead to white matter damage in the brain, which causes major impairment in cognitive function.20
  • Fatigue — B12-deficient patients feel overwhelming fatigue and tiredness. Some patients even note that they are not able to do menial tasks that they do daily. This may be accompanied by numbness or tingling of the extremities as well.

Optimizing vitamin B12 levels should be one of the top priorities of pregnant women. This is to ensure that you and your child remain healthy, with researchers even noting that vitamin B12 is just as important as folic acid and iron during pregnancy for preventing neural tube defects.21 Additional research shows that B12 deficiency is linked to poor growth and neurodevelopment of infants.22

Are You at Risk of Being B12-Deficient?

Diagnosis of vitamin B12 deficiency usually consists of multiple blood tests to determine whether you’re in the optimal range. However, the problem with the current B12 blood test is that it measures both the inactive and active form of B12. This means that even though some patients have higher amounts of inactive B12, they still won’t be diagnosed.23

Other tests include a complete blood count and a serum B12 level. Testing homocysteine levels in the blood is another way to diagnose this deficiency. People who have a predisposition for B12 deficiency may be required to undergo additional screenings. Some risk factors for B12 deficiency you should look out for are:24

  • Crohn’s disease A study published in 2015 notes that patients who have Crohn’s disease are generally more deficient in vitamin B12.25 One of the treatments for this condition is ileocaecal resection, which unfortunately heightens a patient’s risk for vitamin B12 deficiency further.26
  • Tapeworm infestation — Fish tapeworms are the largest parasites in the human body. An infestation is usually caused by eating infected raw or undercooked fish. Once the tapeworms develop inside the intestine, it starts absorbing the nutrients ingested by the patient, one of which is vitamin B12.27
  • Alcohol abuse Alcoholism makes it hard for the body to absorb vitamin B12.28
  • Metformin, histamine blockers and proton pump inhibitor use — Metformin is usually prescribed to diabetes patients to help lower their blood glucose levels. Unfortunately, studies show that it can lead to vitamin B12 deficiency.29

Take note that folic acid deficiency and B12 deficiency almost have identical symptoms. If a B12 deficiency is erroneously diagnosed as folic acid deficiency, anemia may be treated, but the eventual mental decline, which is only caused by low levels of B12, will still progress.30

What Is Vitamin B12 Good For?

  • Improves depression symptoms Patients diagnosed with depression have been shown to have low vitamin B12 levels. Research indicates that supplementing with vitamin B12 may help improve management of depression.31,32
  • Mitigates the risk for birth defects — Studies show that maintaining optimal levels of B12 is as important as folic acid during pregnancy, as it aids in the infant’s brain development.33
  • Promotes brain health and function — Research indicates that patients who have lower levels of B12 have an increased risk for brain volume loss. Additionally, vitamin B12 supplementation has been observed to help boost cognitive function.34

Vitamin B12 can be used to improve sleep quality by assisting in melatonin production, a hormone responsible for sleep regulation.35 Supplementation may also boost your energy levels, as a study has found that severe B12 deficiency can reduce physical endurance.36

Studies Conducted on Vitamin B12

Due to vitamin B12’s role in important body processes, many studies have focused on its interaction with other body chemicals. Studies mainly revolve around its role in the prevention of Alzheimer’s, heart disease and other conditions.

In a 2012 study, vegetarians and vegans — individuals who have a higher susceptibility to deficiency — were given either a placebo or a vitamin B12 supplement. Those given B12 supplements were observed to have improved blood flow and significant lowering of their homocysteine levels. While this study implies that B12 has a direct benefit for blood flow, it has not yet been proven whether it lowers the risk of heart attacks, although there are studies showing it helps reduce the chances of stroke.37,38

A study from the University of Oxford showed that elderly people who are at high risk for dementia showed a higher resilience against brain atrophy after B-vitamin treatments, with B12 being pinpointed as the top contributor.39

Furthermore, studies show B12’s connection to depression, with deficient patients having a higher risk of developing depression symptoms, even with normal folate and homocysteine levels.40 While this does not mean that all depressed people are deficient in B12, studies have shown that it is a contributing factor for the prevalence of depression.41 Patients who are B12-deficient suffer from other psychiatric abnormalities as well, such as delirium, schizophrenia and psychosis.42

Side Effects and Contraindications for B12 Supplementation

In rare cases, patients may observe certain side effects upon using B12 supplements. This is mostly caused by possible drug interactions or allergic reactions to other components of the supplement. Some side effects include:43

  • Nervousness and anxiousness
  • Headache or migraine
  • Swelling
  • Congestive heart failure
  • Fluid buildup in the lungs

Some patients can suffer from anaphylaxis or a severe allergic reaction to vitamin B12 supplements, although this is rare, too. This can cause shock, swelling or itching.44 There is also a documented case where a patient suffered from anaphylaxis after an intramuscular injection, but didn’t have the same reaction with an oral supplementation.45

Self-prescribing with vitamin B12 supplementation should be avoided, especially if you’re taking specific medications or when you’re pregnant. Some medications have been observed to cause a reduction in absorption and an increase in the elimination of this vitamin. Some of these medications are:46

  • Chloramphenicol
  • Metformin
  • Proton pump inhibitors
  • H2 receptor antagonists

A Film About the Impending 5G Apocalypse

Are you still under the misconception that unchecked exposure to electromagnetic field (EMF) and radiofrequency (RF) radiation is of no concern? Then I urge you to view the featured documentary, “5G Apocalypse — The Extinction Event” by Sacha Stone.

Please understand that while I am not in agreement with some of Stone’s conspiracy theories on the militarization of these frequencies, the science is beyond solid to justify concern about 5G without throwing in conspiracy allegations. I do believe that, overall, the documentary was well done and nicely packages the nonconspiracy information.

EMF Exposure Has Dramatically Increased Over the Past 100 Years

Indeed, even the earlier, and less intense, generations of wireless technologies have been shown to produce severe harm over time. As explained in my 2017 interview with Martin Pall, Ph.D., professor emeritus of biochemistry and basic medical sciences at Washington State University, the primary danger of EMFs — and what drives the processes of chronic disease — is mitochondrial damage triggered by peroxynitrites, one of the most damaging types of reactive nitrogen species.

Devices that continuously emit EMF radiation at levels that damage your mitochondria include your cellphone, cellphone towers, Wi-Fi routers and modems, baby monitors and “smart” devices of all kinds, including smart meters and smart appliances.

If you go back in time to the end of World War I, around 1918 or so, and use that timeframe as a baseline of EMF exposure among the general public, you come to the astonishing conclusion that EMF exposure has increased about 1 quintillion times over the past 100 years.

It’s irrational to assume that this radical increase — an increase of 1 billion times — could not have adverse effects on the environment and human health. The reality is that most people are experiencing biological impacts as a result of this exposure, but have no appreciation of the damage it’s causing until it’s too late. Even then, it’s extremely difficult to link EMF exposure to the symptoms or the disease.

Understanding the Mechanisms of Harm

According to Pall’s research,1,2,3,4 low-frequency microwave radiation such as that from your cellphone and wireless router activates the voltage-gated calcium channels (VGCCs) located in the outer membrane of your cells. According to Pall, VGCCs are 7.2 million times more sensitive to microwave radiation than the charged particles inside and outside our cells, which means the safety standards for this exposure are off by a factor of 7.2 million.

Low-frequency microwave radiation opens your VGCCs, thereby allowing an abnormal influx of calcium ions into the cell, which in turn activates nitric oxide (NO) and superoxide which react nearly instantaneously to form peroxynitrite.5

Peroxynitrite than catalyzes massive oxidative stress by the creation of free radicals that are associated with an increased level of systemic inflammation and mitochondrial dysfunction, and are thought to be a root cause for many of today’s chronic diseases.

One of its most significant hazards of peroxynitrite is that it damages DNA. The European REFLEX study published in 2004 revealed the nonthermal effects of 2G and 3G radiation are actually very similar to the effects of X-rays in terms of the genetic damage they cause.7

Your body has the capacity to repair that damage through a family of 17 different enzymes collectively called poly ADP ribose polymerases (PARP). However, while PARP work well, they require NAD+ for fuel and when they run out of NAD+ they stop repairing your DNA, which can lead to premature cell death as over 100 to 150 NAD+ molecules are needed to repair every DNA strand break.

NAD+ is central to maintaining cellular and mitochondrial health, so the fact that PARP consumes NAD+ to counteract EMF damage is an important concern. Can you improve your NAD+ levels? Yes, but it’s a complex topic that really requires a book to carefully explain. As a first step, though, you need to reduce NAD+ consumption, which necessitates limiting your EMF exposure.

Damage Occurs Over Extended Periods of Time

Were the negative effects of EMFs immediately recognizable, matters would be much simpler. Alas, it doesn’t work that way. The damage accrues over time, similar to that from smoking. For years, you can get away without feeling any ill effects until, all of a sudden, you’re beset with debilitating symptoms.

Researchers are in general agreement that there’s a latency period of about 10 years or more before the damage shows up, which places children at greatest risk, since their exposures begin much earlier (nowadays in utero) and persist throughout life unless steps are taken to minimize their daily exposure.

While the controversy over EMF damage has centered around whether or not it can cause cancer, especially brain tumors, this actually isn’t your greatest concern. Since the damage is strongly linked to activation of your VGCCs, it stands to reason that areas where VGCCs are the densest would be most vulnerable to damage.

As it happens, the highest density of VGCCs are found in your nervous system, your brain, the pacemaker in your heart and in male testes. As a result, EMFs are likely to contribute to neurological and neuropsychiatric problems, heart and reproductive problems, including but not limited to cardiac arrhythmias, anxiety, depression, autism, Alzheimer’s and infertility.

Indeed, this is what researchers keep finding, and all of these health problems are far more prevalent and kill more people than brain cancer.

5G Linked to Significant Health Concerns

One of the main problems with 5G is that it relies primarily on the bandwidth of the millimeter wave (MMW), which is primarily between 30 gigahertz (GHz) and 300GHz,8 and are known to penetrate 1 to 2 millimeters of human skin tissue.9,10

Its ability to penetrate tissue and cause a severe burning sensation is exactly why MMW was chosen for use in crowd control weapons (Active Denial Systems) by the U.S. Department of Defense.11

Some research indicates that sweat ducts in human skin act as antennae when they come in contact with MMWs,12 which helps explain the painful effect. MMW has also been linked to numerous health problems, including:13,14,15,16,17

  • Eye problems such as lens opacity in rats, which is linked to the production of cataracts,18 and eye damage in rabbits19,20
  • Impacted heart rate variability, an indicator of stress, in rats21,22,23 and heart rate changes (arrhythmias) in frogs24 ,25
  • Pain26
  • Suppressed immune function27
  • Depressed growth and increased antibiotic resistance in bacteria28

In 2015, more than 230 scientists engaged in the study of biological and health effects of non-ionizing EMFs in 41 nations signed an international appeal to the United Nations, calling for protection from non-ionizing EMF exposure due to evidence of health effects even at low levels.29

Two years later, more than 180 doctors and scientists from 35 countries signed a petition30 to enact a moratorium on the rollout of 5G due to the potential risks to wildlife and human health, citing research showing an increased risk for:

  • Cancer
  • Cellular stress and increase in harmful free radicals
  • Genetic damage
  • Reproductive problems31,32,33
  • Neurological disorders

You Run on Bioelectricity

The voltage in your body appears to play a significant role in health and disease. Your body’s production of electricity allows your cells to communicate and perform basic biological functions necessary for your survival.

However, your body is designed to operate at specific levels and frequencies, and being surrounded by manmade EMFs that are a quadrillion times higher than the natural EMF environment of the Earth it is no surprise that this could result in biological harm or damage. As noted in “5G Apocalypse,” interfering with your DNA’s ability to receive and transmit biological signals is just one possible effect of such exposure.

The film also features Dr. Dietrich Klinghardt (whom I’ve also interviewed on the importance of EMF remediation), whose research shows women who gave birth to autistic children had an 8.4 higher body voltage level than those who gave birth to neurologically healthy children. The sleeping location of autistic children also resulted in an 8.5 times higher body voltage.

Overall, the RF radiation level in the sleeping location of mothers whose children were autistic was 20.7 times higher than that of mothers whose children were unaffected. According to Klinghardt, you can actually predict autism simply by measuring the RF radiation exposure levels of the mothers.

EMFs Take a Toll on Neurological Function and Cognition

As early as 1924, Rudolf Steiner, Ph.D., an Austrian scholar who developed biodynamic farming and wrote more than 330 books on a wide variety of topics, spoke about the dangers of electricity and its impact on the human body, saying:34

“You must consider the whole part played by electricity in Nature … [H]uman beings cannot go on developing in the same way in an atmosphere permeated on all sides by electric currents and radiations; it has an influence on the whole development of man …

this life of men in the midst of electricity, notably radiant electricity, will presently affect them in such a way that they will no longer be able to understand the news which they receive so rapidly.

The effect is to damp down their intelligence. Such effects are already seen today. Even today you can notice how people understand the things that come to them with far greater difficulty than they did a few decades ago.”

Since 1924, EMF exposure has increased exponentially, and 5G promises to massively increase that exposure even further, as it adds to already existing technology and doesn’t simply replace it.

Researchers are now confirming what Steiner warned us about in 1924. EMF — today emitted primarily by wireless technologies that didn’t even exist back in Steiner’s day — does indeed have neuropsychiatric effects,35 triggering everything from foggy thinking and headaches to learning disabilities and dementia.

Microwave Radiation Has Clear Biological Effects

About 29 minutes into “5G Apocalypse” you can see what just two minutes of exposure to a smart meter does to human cells. Three different subjects were asked to stand about 1 foot from the smart meter for two minutes. Blood samples were taken before and after exposure.

After this extremely limited amount of exposure, you can clearly see cell wall degradation and trauma to the blood cells occurring in the samples. With its use of “small cell” bases36 placed in close proximity to each other, each and every neighborhood will eventually be bathed in even more powerful 5G frequencies.

What’s worse, the FCC revised its rules relating to the rollout of 5G technology in September 2018, limiting cities’ rights to control the placement of 5G antennas. Los Angeles and other cities sued to overturn the FCC’s new rules, but January 10, 2019, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit sided with the FCC.37

As noted by Pall, quoted in the film: “Putting tens of millions of 5G antennae without a single biological test of safety has to be about the stupidest idea anyone has had in the history of the world.”

Indeed, seeing how many are already struggling with electromagnetic hypersensitivity, saturating cities and suburban areas with MMW radiation will undoubtedly make the problem more widespread, and make life unbearable for those already feeling the effects of wireless radiation.

As noted by Dr. Yael Stein — who has studied 5G MMW technology and its interaction with the human body — in a 2016 letter to the Federal Communications Commission: 38

“Computer simulations have demonstrated that sweat glands concentrate sub-terahertz waves in human skin. Humans could sense these waves as heat. The use of sub-terahertz (millimeter wave) communications technology (cellphones, Wi-Fi, antennas) could cause humans to percept physical pain via nociceptors.

Potentially, if G5 Wi-Fi is spread in the public domain we may expect more of the health effects currently seen with RF/ microwave frequencies including many more cases of hypersensitivity (EHS), as well as many new complaints of physical pain and a yet unknown variety of neurologic disturbances.

It will be possible to show a causal relationship between G5 technology and these specific health effects. The affected individuals may be eligible for compensation.”

Nighttime remediation

Use filters to remove voltage transients from your electricity and use meters to confirm that they are in a safe range.

Use a battery-powered alarm clock, ideally one without any light. I use a talking clock for the visually impaired.42

Consider moving your baby’s bed into your room instead of using a wireless baby monitor. Alternatively, use a hard-wired monitor.

If you must use Wi-Fi, shut it off when not in use, especially at night when you are sleeping. Ideally, work toward hardwiring your house so you can eliminate Wi-Fi altogether. It’s important to realize that if you have a Wi-Fi router, you have a cellphone tower inside your home.

Ideally, you’d eliminate your Wi-Fi and simply use a wired connection. If you absolutely must have a router, you can place it inside a shielded bag when not in use. You can find shielded items online, or make your own using Swiss Shield fabric. If you have a notebook without any Ethernet ports, a USB Ethernet adapter will allow you to connect to the internet with a wired connection.

For more extensive shielding, you can consider painting your bedroom walls and ceiling with special shielding paint, which will block RF from outside sources, such as cell towers, smart meters and radio/TV towers. Windows can be covered with metal window screen or film. For your bed, consider a shielding bed canopy.

Daytime strategies to reduce unnecessary EMF exposure

To reduce EMF exposure during the daytime, consider using Stetzer filters to decrease the level of dirty electricity or electromagnetic interference being generated. You can also take these with you to work or when you travel. This may be the single best strategy to reduce the damage from EMF exposure since it appears that most of it is generated by the frequencies that the filters remove.

Connect your desktop computer to the internet via a wired Ethernet connection and be sure to put your desktop in airplane mode. Also avoid wireless keyboards, trackballs, mice, game systems, printers and portable house phones. Opt for the wired versions.

Avoid carrying your cellphone on your body unless in airplane mode and never sleep with it in your bedroom unless it is in airplane mode. Even in airplane mode it can emit signals, which is why I put my phone in a Faraday bag.43

When using your cellphone, use the speaker phone and hold the phone at least 3 feet away from you. Seek to radically decrease your time on the cellphone. I typically use my cellphone less than 30 minutes a month, and mostly when traveling. Instead, use VoIP software phones that you can use while connected to the internet via a wired connection, or better yet, use a landline telephone.

General household remediation

If you still use a microwave oven, consider replacing it with a steam convection oven, which will heat your food as quickly and far more safely.

Avoid using “smart” appliances and thermostats that depend on wireless signaling. This would include all new “smart” TVs. They are called smart because they emit a Wi-Fi signal and, unlike your computer, you cannot shut the Wi-Fi signal off. Consider using a large computer monitor as your TV instead, as they don’t emit Wi-Fi.

Replace CFL bulbs with incandescent bulbs. Ideally remove all fluorescent lights from your house. Not only do they emit unhealthy light, but more importantly, they will actually transfer current to your body just being close to the bulbs.

Dimmer switches are a source of dirty electricity, so consider installing regular on/off switches rather than dimmer switches.

Refuse smart meters as long as you can, or add a shield to an existing smart meter, some of which have been shown to reduce radiation by 98 to 99 percent.44

Whitening Strips or Soda? Which Is Worse for Your Teeth?

Brushing your teeth is an indispensable health habit affecting more than just your mouth. Regardless of your age or the number of years you’ve been using a toothbrush, it’s important you address all aspects of dental health as it plays a role in optimizing your overall health and well-being.

You may easily avoid bad breath, plaque, yellow teeth and tooth decay when you adopt an effective oral care routine. It is unfortunate how many fail to appreciate how this simple strategy affects your overall health. In addition to affecting your health, oral care affects the delicate balance of bacteria in your mouth, which may be as important to your health as your gut microbiome.

For instance, periodontal disease, which may impair your immune system, and dental caries, have both been linked to specific bacteria. Type 2 diabetes and periodontal disease are strongly connected, and research shows those who fail to brush their teeth at least once a day increase their risk of dementia by as much as 65%, compared to those who brush three times a day.1,2

Over the past two decades, tooth whitening has become a popular aesthetic dental treatment.3 Home care kits have taken the place of in-office treatments. The compound annual growth of the global teeth whitening market is expected to grow 6.8% by 2026.4

Awareness of teeth whitening across the world is considered one of the future growth opportunities of the market. However, recent research finds whitening kits damage your teeth and scientists are unsure if the damage is permanent.5,6,7,8

Anatomy of Your Teeth

Your teeth are among the hardest substance found in your body. They are crucial for chewing, and play an important part in speech and in maintaining the shape of your mouth. You have 32 permanent teeth that begin erupting at age 6 and finish at around 21 years.9

The anatomy of the tooth consists of the root hidden under the gums and the crown of the tooth visible to the naked eye. Both parts are covered with hard tissue. The exterior of the visible tooth (crown) is made of enamel mostly composed of calcium phosphate.10

The enamel doesn’t contain living cells and is unable to repair from decay or from wear. The hard portion of the root is covered by cementum, which is softer than enamel but still hard.11 Under the enamel and cementum is dentin.

While a hard substance, dentin is porous and contains tubules allowing nutrients to be transported through the tooth layers. It has high levels of protein, most of it collagen.12 Beneath the dentin is the pulp tissue encased in a pulp cavity where it is fed with a rich blood and nerve supply essential for the health of your teeth.13

The root is embedded in your jaw bone and covered in gingival tissue. Your gingiva is also called your gums, designed to protect the roots of your teeth. The part of the pulp cavity inside the root is called the root canal, all of which are held in place with your periodontal ligament.14 This is a system of collagenous connective tissue connecting the root to the socket.

Data Show Whitening Strips Damage Your Dentin

Undergraduate researchers working in the laboratory of Kelly Keenan, Ph.D., associate professor of chemistry at Stockton University in New Jersey, presented three poster presentations at the annual meeting of the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.15

In the press release,16 the researchers wrote Americans spend more than $1 billion on teeth whitening products each year and while these products may make smiles brighter, data demonstrate the products may also cause damage.

Many of the at-home teeth whitening products use hydrogen peroxide. Past studies established hydrogen peroxide penetrates the enamel and dentin. It has also found collagen in the dentin layer decreases when teeth are treated with whitening strips. Keenan commented on the intent of the study:17

“We sought to further characterize what the hydrogen peroxide was doing to collagen. We used entire teeth for the studies and focused on the impact hydrogen peroxide has on the proteins.”

In the most recent study, researchers showed the major protein in dentin is broken into small fragments when treated with hydrogen peroxide. Additionally, pure collagen treated with hydrogen peroxide in concentrations similar to those found in whitening strips made the “original collagen protein disappear, which is presumably due to the formation of many smaller fragments.”18

While the study was focused on over-the-counter teeth whitening kits, Keenan was also concerned products used in dental offices may have the same effect, saying,19 “Whether you buy over-the-counter or go to a dentist, it’s the same ingredient — it’s hydrogen peroxide. I don’t know of a safer alternative for whitening teeth.”

The results of the study did not address whether in their natural state teeth may be able to regenerate protein after exposure to hydrogen peroxide. Dr. James Sconzo, chief of dental medicine at New York Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital, who has whitened teeth with hydrogen peroxide, believes this may happen, as “dentin is a live cellular matrix.”

He also claims he’s not seen any clinical evidence to suggest harm is being done by tooth whitening.20 Still, until more research is done, that question remains unanswered.

Sweetened Beverages Damage Your Teeth

Damage to your teeth may occur from several products and foods you eat, not the least of which are sugar sweetened beverages.21 Several different studies have demonstrated a positive association between sugar consumption, especially sugary beverages, and dental decay.

In one study22 published in the International Journal of Clinical Pediatric Dentistry, researchers strongly suggest dentists and pediatricians play a pivotal role in patient education and counseling on diet and health.

The researchers wrote there is clear and extensive evidence proving a correlation between frequency and amount of sugar and the severity of dental erosion.23

Carbonated drinks have a pH of 2 to 3, triggering marked loss of tooth structure and evidence strongly suggests these beverages are a marker of an unhealthy lifestyle and an increased risk of Type 2 diabetes.24

After consuming sugar, pH in the mouth rapidly falls below 5 by the production of acids in bacterial metabolism. This may enhance growth or colonization of bacterial species normally absent in dental plaque, thus increasing the risk of tooth erosion and caries.25 Another study found chronic and regular consumption of cola drinks encouraged the erosion of teeth. According to the researchers:26

“The loss of anatomy and sensitivity are direct results of acid cola dissolving coronal tooth material. Under the influence of coca cola, a change of crystal structure and nanomorphology on enamel surface occurs.”

In a study published in the Journal of Public Health,27 researchers used longitudinal survey data to predict dental decay by age 5 in children eating sweets or chocolate and brushing their teeth at least once a day. The data found toothbrushing only slightly reduces the association between snacking and sugar consumption on dental decay outcomes.

What Effect Does Baking Soda Have on Tooth Enamel?

Tooth discoloration may be caused from intrinsic or extrinsic staining. In one study,28 published in the Journal of the American Dental Association, researchers reviewed in vitro and clinical studies on stain removal using dentifrices — a paste or powder for cleaning teeth — containing baking soda.

They concluded the literature indicated these products were effective and safe for stain removal and whitening using a manual toothbrush. They found it to be a desirable alternative or an additional measure for stain removal.

In a meta-analysis of five controlled clinical studies29 using 270 subjects, researchers evaluated the ability of baking soda to efficiently remove plaque. They found baking soda dentifrices were more effective to a “significantly greater extent” than non-baking soda dentifrice products in removing plaque.

Another study concluded,30 “the baking soda dentifrice was more effective than the non-baking soda, antimicrobial dentifrice in plaque removal after a single tooth brushing, and in maintaining significantly lower plaque levels during a four-week period of twice daily, unsupervised tooth brushing.”

A recent supplement published in the Journal of the American Dental Association31 evaluated past studies on dentifrices as they recognized they were important to prevent caries and periodontal disease, but also serve to deliver agents to reduce sensitivity and for esthetic benefits. They found:32

  • Despite the vigor a patient may use during brushing, baking soda provides a measure of safety to the enamel and dentin. Despite low abrasive quality, dentifrices with baking soda were more effective in stain removal and whitening than some non-baking soda products, which are more highly abrasive.
  • When plaque pH falls below 5.1 demineralization of the teeth occurs, leading to dental caries. When the pH returns to normal the teeth tend to remineralize. Baking soda is shown to be effective in reducing the acidity of plaque and the impact on remineralization is significant.
  • Periodontal pathogens were susceptible to baking soda and it could rapidly immobilize oral spirochetes and motile rods.
  • Beneficial effects on gingival health were found by researchers in three- to six-month clinical studies using baking soda dentifrices compared to placebo.
  • Dentifrices containing baking soda have been extensively studied and found to be safe, do not contribute to root sensitivity and may be safe for those on low-salt diets.

Additional Benefits of Baking Soda

Baking soda is 100% sodium bicarbonate. Egyptians used baking soda in its natural form as a soap for cleansing purposes, but it wasn’t until 1846 the compound was sold as the product we know.33

One box is sold for under $1, making it one of the least expensive home remedies to keep on hand. In addition to using it in oral care, it could become a part of your regular hygiene and house cleaning routine. Baking soda is an excellent way to avoid parabens and aluminum found in deodorants and antiperspirants, for example.

A paste may be applied to relieve itching from insect bites and poison ivy and 3 tablespoons in a tub of warm water make an invigorating foot soak. Importance of Oral Health

Your oral microbiome has a significant impact on your overall health. In fact, it’s difficult to achieve high level physical health when your oral health is ignored. Inflammation is known to be a disease-causing trigger in many chronic illnesses.

Gum disease and other oral diseases produce chronic low-grade inflammation that may have a negative effect on every major organ system in your body. It may contribute to Type 2 diabetes,34 heart disease35,36 and Alzheimer’s disease.37,38

Achieving oral health is about promoting balance in your oral microbiome. Contrary to popular belief, antimicrobial agents and alcohol mouthwashes do far more harm than good. Comment on MGJA Notice to Donald Trump

I think this “Notice” from the Pretend-to-Be Assemblies is in the same exact vein as dozens of failed Patriot efforts that have gone before.  See all the work that Bob Schultz did.  See all the work that NLA did.  Those who don’t learn from their mistakes….. 


That’s me making a disgusted sound as I shake my head; you would think that we had all been over this ground too many times before, but no…..  The definition of insanity is to do the same thing over and over and expect different results.  So I guess a lot of patriots in this country are insane.  They just keep making the same mistakes and the same false assumptions— over and over and over.  

For one thing, in Law, the term “People” very specifically means “People of the Land Jurisdiction”—- and MGJA doesn’t qualify its members to act as “People”, much less as “We, the People”— that is, Progeny of the Founders and Inheritors of the National Trust.  

They are all still wandering around claiming to be “US Citizens” of one kind or another, even after I pointed out that no “US Citizen” is now nor has ever been qualified to act in the capacity of one of the “People” of this country.  US Citizens— whether United States Citizens or Citizens of the United States, either one — are acting as “Persons” and not as “People” by definition.  

So that renders their actions invalid and ineffective from the get-go. 

At best, President Trump may look at this Notice of theirs as a “Petition”.   At worst, he could arrest all of them who haven’t bothered to correct their political status records and throw the book at them as “insurrectionists”— ironically, they could be charged under the same statutory law they are citing for him as reference because they are still carrying “US Citizenship” obligations.  

The whole reference to the Act of 1871 is pathetic, too.  The Act of 1871 was repealed in 1874.  Hello?  Parts of it were piece-meal passed as part of other Acts in 1877-78.  I have published the whole history of this process.  Nobody has any excuse for being ignorant about this and what it all “means” if they have been following along.  

The Municipal United States Government is created by Article I, Section 8, Clause 17, which gives the members of Congress “plenary”— meaning absolute — control of the government of  Washington, DC .   That government reorganized itself as a private commercial corporation and Municipality — an independent, international city-state—and they had every right to do so.  Period.  In and of itself, it had no affect on us or our States and we have no right to complain about how they conduct their business, because under their contract, The Constitution of the United States, they have every right to do whatever they want to do as the government of Washington, DC. 

So all those choices, all those changes, lie outside our contract with them, should not impact us, and do not change their obligations to us.  The Act of 1871 is none of our business, and it does not become any of our business until or unless it results in: (1) neglect or insubordination of duties owed performance; (2) trespass upon our Lawful Jurisdiction; (3) usurpation.  

The grounds that we have to complain are of a different kind entirely than the Notice under discussion implies. 

The Municipal United States Government is strictly limited to operate within the ten miles square of the District of Columbia, but they have usurped far, far beyond that.  They have, without authorization, created their own Municipal Service Districts and extended them all across our country.  They have established STATE OF STATE organizations and established them within the physical borders of every State of the Union, too.  

None of this is allowed under their Constitution, but these entities are operating as foreign commercial corporations, and if we do not object to their activities, they assume that we “acquiesced” to their practices and accepted their “offers” and that they have our permission to act in ways never stipulated by the constitutional agreements.  

Somebody has to hold them to the limitations of their contract, and with all the actual Americans asleep and “presumed” to be some form of Territorial or Municipal US Citizen, there was nobody left to do that.  They have run wild and run amok and nobody has been smart enough or determined enough to get into position to hold their feet to the fire and force them to honor their obligations.  Until now.  

The American States Assembly is closing in. 

These Territorial and Municipal government services corporations and their officers are also under specific performance obligations and duties that they have not fulfilled, which they have bungled, neglected, and ignored.  We have — once we are recognizable as “People” — the ability to hold them accountable for that.  

Even worse, these our employees, have been insubordinate and have trespassed against us and against our lawful government.  We can charge them for that, too, once we start acting as “People” again.  The ambush and murder of LaVoy Finicum comes to mind.  

That is heinous enough in and of itself, but when you consider that Municipal United States Subcontractors — FBI — planned and executed this action, it becomes clear just how far out of line these members of Congress are and how necessary it is for Americans to wake up, act in their Lawful Capacity,  and hold these foreign commercial corporations accountable. 

These are all matters of criminality, not politics.  

Ruby Ridge, Waco, 911, LaVoy —- these are international crimes being committed on our shores by misdirected Federal Employees and Federal Subcontractors.  We don’t need to whine to Donald Trump.  He is already doing his best.  What we need to do is to get our own Ducks in Order, and do what needs to be done to correct our own political status, assemble the actual States of the Union, and kick rump.  

Then we can help President Trump drain the Swamp and discourage the Alligators, instead of standing around like little children whimpering about having their candy taken away and shouting, “I’m King of the Mountain!”  or, in this case, falsely claiming to act as “We, the People” when we haven’t even bothered to find out what “People” means.  

The American States Assembly has done the work and paid the price to actually function as “We, the People”.  

We know that the actual States of the Union don’t allow participation by “US Citizens” in their government, because it would be a gross conflict of interest.  We are assembling States, not States of States. 

We know that we have been deliberately misidentified, first as British Territorial Citizens, and then as Municipal CITIZENS.  We also know that there is no evidence on the Public Record to rebut these presumptions against us, until we take action to correct this circumstance and produce our pedigree and back up our claim to be and to act as one of the People of this country. 

We, The American States Assembly, and our member State Assemblies, have standing as “We, the People”, and we are not petitioning anyone for anything.  Nor are we sending vain “Notices” to Donald Trump, and adding to his burden and frustration.  We are rebuilding and restoring our Lawful Government — and we are beginning action to enforce the Constitutions owed to us by the Territorial and Municipal Governments.  

Please realize that we have already given complete Notice and Due Process to all members of the Territorial and Municipal Governments. That process was completed in April 2014.  It took seven (7) years to accomplish, but we did it. There is no need for any other effort by Americans to serve Notice nor Due Process on Donald Trump nor any other corporate official.  That was already done five (5) years ago and has been under continuous action ever since.  The backstory of this effort is detailed in my book, Disclosure 101, and anyone trying to deal with this Mess needs to sit down and read it—-sooner rather than later. 

Then maybe the Queen will stop laughing at the ignorant Colonials stumbling around claiming to be US Citizens at the same time they are claiming to be “We, the People”.  And maybe the Roman Pontiff will realize that being the “bridge” between Life and Death requires more Due Diligence from him than he has been giving to it.   And —- imagine the American Patriot Movement finally coming together and being properly educated and taking effective measures to correct this Mess?   Wouldn’t that be something——- ? 

That’s my comment on their Notice.  Don’t expect Donald Trump to give it any notice back.  If he does, he will be acting in error—- because they are, as US Citizens — his subordinates, and no more “We, the People” than the Iman of Kashmir.

Is Hydrogen Peroxide Mouthwash Harmful for Teeth?

Hydrogen peroxide is praised for its antiseptic and healing properties. In fact, there is a new urban myth proclaiming that hydrogen peroxide is universally beneficial for all the body organs and tissues. Regarding dental health, this couldn’t be further from the truth as evidence shows that hydrogen peroxide is actually toxic for the cells in the inner part of the teeth, also known as the dental pulp. Without a doubt, hydrogen peroxide does a really good job at bleaching and disinfecting teeth; hydrogen peroxide- based bleaching gels are essential for dentists and there is solid evidence demonstrating the efficacy of these protocols. On the other hand, there is a lot of uncontrolled information and advice, recommending hydrogen peroxide as an ideal everyday mouthwash. Taking into account that over-the-counter hydrogen peroxide concentrations can be as high as the formulas used by dentists in bleaching sessions (20-30%) and the growing popularity of hydrogen peroxide as an alternative therapy, the danger of potential long-term teeth damage by using high concentrations of hydrogen peroxide as a casual mouthwash are unknown, underestimated and largely under-discussed.

Hydrogen peroxide releases superoxide anions (powerful free radicals), which are responsible for its significant bleaching and antiseptic properties. However, its beneficial properties stop right here because research shows that it can penetrate the tooth enamel and dentin and reach the very inner tooth chamber called dental pulp. Hydrogen peroxide has low molecular weight and the ability to destroy proteins, which facilitate diffusion through enamel and dentin. The dental pulp is where the blood vessels and nerves of each tooth reside, which makes this area particularly sensitive. A unique class of cells, called odontoblasts also reside in the periphery of the dental pulp area, which support the teeth by depositing new dentin layers throughout life and are also believed to play a protective/reparative role in response to dental carries or other environmental factors that harm teeth. The problem with hydrogen peroxide is that it has a cytotoxic effect on the dental pulp cells, which means that it literally kills them. A study published in 2013 in the Journal of Endodontics shows that even low concentrations of hydrogen peroxide trigger molecular mechanisms in pulp cells, which activate programmed cell death.

According to another study published in the same journal in 2013, even the bleaching protocols used by dentists seem to be harmful for the dental pulp, since the damage in that area is directly correlated to the number of bleaching sessions. Odontoblasts, are directly damaged or show a significant decrease in their metabolic activity as a result of the bleaching sessions using 35% hydrogen peroxide gel. It is believed that this effect may result in tissue irritation and tooth sensitivity. A study published in the journal Scientific World Journal in 2013 shows that the higher the concentration of hydrogen peroxide, the faster it reaches the inner tooth tissues. The authors tested 35% and 20% concentrations of hydrogen peroxide and report that the 35% hydrogen peroxide diffused faster into the pulp chamber than the 20% hydrogen peroxide bleaching gel.

It is speculated that lower concentrations of hydrogen peroxide may have significantly less toxic effects on dental pulp cells, because there is more time to dilute and degrade the peroxide that reaches the pulp. However, the long-term or even short-term effects of daily use of hydrogen peroxide as a mouthwash have never been evaluated. If a few bleaching sessions can cause detectable damage in the dental pulp, then, based on the existing evidence, it is reasonable to assume that using hydrogen peroxide mouthwash on a daily basis may not be the safest option at all.
