Why are people drinking urine?

The human body is a complex system with a unique elimination structure to get rid of waste products and balance water levels. The urinary system is one part that may provide clues about your overall health status. The system is made up of organs, muscles and nerves working together to create, store and excrete urine.1

You have two kidneys where the urine is created and two ureters transporting the urine into your bladder. The ureters enter at the top of the bladder on either side. At the bottom is a sphincter muscle leading into the urethra, which in turn carries urine out of your body.2

After your body has metabolized food, waste products are left behind. Along with your lungs, skin and intestines, your urinary system balances these chemicals and water. A normal healthy adult will eliminate about 1.5 quarts of urine every day, depending on the amount of food and fluid you consume, how much is lost through sweating and breathing, and any medications you might be taking.3

Urea is one of the waste products produced when foods containing protein are metabolized.4 Although the function of urine is to excrete metabolic waste products, there have been those who believe urine holds medicinal properties.

The ancient practice of the golden fountain

The practice of drinking urine or applying it to the skin has been used worldwide for millennia. Shivambu — the practice of drinking urine — is a Hindu practice over 5,000 years old, and is believed to have rejuvenating properties.5 Culturally, the medicinal act of drinking urine was practiced in Egypt, China, Thailand and during the Aztec empire. Pliny the Elder used urine topically for treating sores, burns and scorpion stings.

In the 2010 paper, “The Golden Fountain — Is urine the miracle drug no one told you about?,” Jutta M. Loeffler, a researcher from the University of London, writes:6

“The almost 100,000 hits of the search for ‘urine therapy’ on Google … are an indicator that drinking ‘waters out of thine own cistern’ is still, or again, rather popular today … There is, it seems, virtually nothing urine won’t cure. Modern proponents use pseudoscience to explain the benefits of the various, mostly exaggerated, components of urine …

This said, the situation described in the paper7 by Ogunshe, Fawole and Ajayi in this journal, is quite different. Here, the use of human or cows’ urine does not stem from an esoteric search for eternal youth or someone’s personal rage against the establishment, but from bare necessity in an economically struggling part of the world where modern medicine or the money to pay for it, is lacking.”

Loeffler goes on to discuss the research8 of Ogunshe et.al., and how urine therapy may have gained popularity in some African areas “because of increasing poverty.”

In particular, the Ogunshe paper looked at the safety of administering urine to children suffering with febrile convulsions. It turns out to be a bad idea, for the most part, as testing of the urine revealed the presence of antibiotic-resistant bacteria.

“In the absence of proper clinical trials it is difficult to prove that traditional urine therapy contributes to childhood mortality in Nigeria, but given the results of the present study, the treatment of vulnerable and already ill children with urine should be strongly discouraged,” Loeffler writes.

Modern-day Shivambu practice

Despite such concerns, members of the Boulder, Colorado, Urine Therapy Meetup Group believe consuming urine or using it topically has health benefits. The members meet monthly at the public library. New members are introduced to the daily practice of auto-urine therapy called Shivambu.

Some group members have spoken with the media and described drinking their urine or applying it topically for years, and claim it has cleared eczema. Others have described how they use it but not any of the benefits they ascribe to it. Dr. Andrew Thornber,9 chief medical officer at the Now Healthcare Group, told BBC Three:10

“The whole point of urinating is for the kidneys to filter the blood and it gets rid of any excess fluid and salts, as well as minerals. Urine in a healthy person is made up of about 95% water, but the other 5% is waste products the body is looking to expel — such as potassium and nitrogen — which, if you have too much in your body, can cause problems.”

Is urine normally sterile?

According to information presented by Evann E. Hilt,11 a researcher from the department of microbiology and immunology at Loyola University, at the 2014 American Society for Microbiology conference,12 bacteria are normally present in low levels in the urine of healthy individuals.

This contradicts claims that urine is sterile. Hilt asserts this belief has its roots in the 1950s, when epidemiologist Dr. Edward Kass13 developed a method to screen for urinary tract infections before surgery.

Kass found using a midstream urine test, in combination with a numerical cutoff for the number of bacteria found to less than 100,000 colony forming units per millimeter of urine, could determine if an individual had a urinary tract infection.14,15

The test was considered negative when bacteria grown in the lab failed to meet this threshold. Hilt believes this is where the urban legend developed16 — the idea that urine from a normal healthy person is sterile — as patients were often informed their urine was negative for infection and without bacterial growth.

The midstream, clean catch urine collection method was designed to reduce the amount of bacterial contamination as bacteria passes through the urethra and out of the body. Hilt used a more sensitive technique to detect low levels of bacterium, and evaluated the bacteria found in the bladders of 84 women collected by straight catheterization.

Half these women had overactive bladder syndrome, causing them to urinate frequently.17 The team found 71.4% of the samples contained bacteria; the women with overactive bladder also had a greater diversity of bacteria than controls. According to the presentation abstract, “a total of 217 bacterial isolates from 77 different genera were isolated from OAB patients, while 66 bacterial isolates from 33 different genera were isolated from control patients.”

The researchers hope this may help provide treatment for the 15% of women who suffer from overactive bladder as many do not find relief from therapy addressing the condition as a muscular disorder.18

There are more areas in your body that aren’t sterile

Hilt’s work19 demonstrates urine is not sterile and changes the way you might think about infection. Her results suggest there’s a normal community of bacteria living in the bladder that may function in much the same way bacteria do in the gut, in terms of having beneficial and harmful mixes of bacteria in the same area.20

Scientists have long thought other areas of the body were also sterile and only the intestinal tract running from the mouth to the anus contained bacteria. However, a study published in 201421 found the placenta is also home to a community of bacteria similar to those found in the mouth.

The microbes are nonpathogenic, but variations and composition may trigger preterm birth, occurring in 9.93% of U.S. pregnancies.22 This study was triggered by another published in 2012,23 in which the researcher found the most abundant microbes in a pregnant woman’s vagina were different than those found in nonpregnant women.

However, the microbes were not commonly found in the stool of the infant during the first week of life. In other words, during a vaginal delivery, the infant did not pick up the bacteria from their mom’s vagina. Dr. Kjersti Aagaard, obstetrician at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston and lead author of the studies24,25 commented:26

“If we start thinking of the placenta as a conduit or facilitator of maternal-fetal communication and not as a barrier, then I think we open ourselves up to very interesting perspectives on how we’ve interpreted a lot of developmental biology today.”

In the absence of disease, the brain is also assumed to be a sterile organ. However, a study published in 201327 reported finding alpha-proteobacteria, normally found in the soil, in people’s brains.

The researchers were evaluating whether those with HIV/AIDS might be prone to brain infections and instead found all the brains they evaluated contained bacteria, whether they had HIV or not. This discovery illuminates how much further science has yet to travel before we will know what is considered “normal.”

Cosmetic industry uses topical urea

Your skin is a barrier protecting your body from the elements. It helps regulate temperature and is important in balancing hydration levels. Alterations in function are associated with different skin diseases, including atopic dermatitis, psoriasis and eczema.28

Urea is a component found in urine and used in natural moisturizing factors of the skin. It plays a role in preserving hydration and integrity. In some cases, urea is also added to cosmetic products to treat nail problems, such as ingrown toenails. It has a keratolytic property, helping to remove dead tissue and promote wound healing.29

It increases moisture in the skin by softening the keratin holding the top layer of skin cells together and thus acts as an exfoliant.30 Urea creams may be prescribed or purchased over-the-counter. When added to a product, it changes the acid-base balance and slows the loss of moisture in the product.31

According to the Environmental Working Group (EWG) Skin Deep Cosmetic Database,32 urea received a score of “3,” placing it at the lowest level of a moderately hazardous cosmetic. EWG notes the use is restricted in Canadian cosmetics.33

Side effects of using urea-based creams include burning, itching, redness or irritation to the area. If you experience the side effects or they become more serious, including blistering or peeling, report them to your physician as soon as possible.34

There may be more than you bargained for in your urine

An estimated 70% of all pharmaceutical drugs you consume are excreted in urine, including over-the-counter drugs.35 Other environmental toxins are also metabolized and excreted through your kidneys, such as tobacco smoke, pollution and some components of food. In fact, you may find evidence of exposure to these toxins by evaluating what’s found in your urine.

One emerging field in environmental health is DNA adductomics, or the study of a segment of DNA bound to a cancer-causing chemical. One method of measurement is using urine samples to extract the information and better understand environmental stressors on the body.36 In other words, drinking urine exposes you a second time to segments of DNA attached to cancer-causing chemicals your body is excreting.

One study37 that spent seven years analyzing the chemical composition of human urine found at least 3,079 compounds. According to Live Science, 72 were made by bacteria and another 2,282 were metabolites from diet, drugs, cosmetics or environmental exposure.38

Co-author David Wishart, Ph.D., professor of biology and computing science at the University of Alberta, commented,39 “Urine is an incredibly complex biofluid. We had no idea there could be so many different compounds going into our toilets.” The compounds found in urine fell into 230 different chemical classes. However, the researchers wrote:40

“Given that there are only 356 chemical classes in the entire human metabolome, this certainly demonstrates the enormous chemical diversity found in urine. The fact that so many compounds seem to be unique to urine likely has to do with the fact that the kidneys do an extraordinary job of concentrating certain metabolites from the blood.”

Glyphosate found in 93% of urine sampled

One dangerous chemical known to have increased in urine samples is glyphosate.41 Researchers from the University of California San Diego School of Medicine found human exposure increased approximately 500% since the introduction of genetically modified crops to the food supply.42

In another study commissioned by the Organic Consumers Association,43 a public testing project was carried out by the University of California San Francisco and glyphosate was discovered in 93% of urine samples collected in 2015.44

This was a unique project as it was supported by members of the public who paid for the urine and water samples to be analyzed. The early results were from the first 131 urine samples tested.45 Ronnie Cummins, international director of Organic Consumers Association, commented:46

“If consumers had any doubt about the extent to which they are being poisoned by Monsanto’s Roundup, these tests results should put those doubts to rest. These test results highlight the massive failure of U.S. regulatory agencies, including the EPA, USDA and FDA, to protect us even as they continue to perpetuate the myth that low-level exposure to glyphosate is harmless.”

Another study, published the year before found:47

“Glyphosate was significantly higher in humans [fed] conventional [food] compared with predominantly organic [fed] humans. Also the glyphosate residues in urine were grouped according to the human health status. Chronically ill humans had significantly higher glyphosate residues in urine than healthy humans.”

Drinking urine contaminated with glyphosate only increases your cellular exposure to a chemical the World Health Organization has deemed a probable human carcinogen.48,49,50 Unless you exclusively eat organic, non-GMO foods or grow and raise your own food, you likely have glyphosate excreted in your urine.

Stay hydrated to keep your urinary system healthy

Aside from consuming waste products that your body is trying to get rid of, drinking urine may also lead to dehydration. Even low levels of dehydration may lead to headaches, lethargy and constipation.51 Your body has a sophisticated management system that depends on drinking fluids and eating foods to replace the water lost from breathing, sweating, urinating and defecating.

Drinking pure water every day is a key component to optimal health, but many have made the mistake of forgoing water for other types of fluid. Sweet drinks, fruit juices, soda and sports drinks may have taken the place of pure water in your fluid replacement.

In one Harvard study,52 researchers found more than half of American children are chronically dehydrated, which may have repercussions on health and academic performance. Since 73% of your brain is water,53 when you’re dehydrated your brain shrinks in volume. This may alter brain function and impact your mood.54

Your body’s fluid needs may vary throughout the day, and from one day to the next, so an important guideline to maintaining good hydration is to keep an eye on the color of your urine. Concentrated, dark colored urine is a sign your kidneys are trying to retain fluid to maintain your bodily functions, and a good indication you need to drink more water.

Ideally, you’ll want your urine to be a light straw-colored yellow. It’s important to listen to your body, watching your thirst level and the color of your urine. If you feel fatigued or moody, it may also indicate you need to drink more water. On average, a healthy number of bathroom visits is seven or eight per day.

The fake food race is worth $3 trillion

For years, I have advocated for an organic diet to optimize your health, avoid common health problems and help regenerate the environment. Choosing organic foods reduces your exposure to pesticides, herbicides, genetically engineered (GE) foods, synthetic food additives and nano ingredients, many of which do not appear on the food label.

In addition to protecting the environment and rebuilding soil, buying organic also supports animal welfare and promotes biodiversity of plants and wildlife. Unfortunately, Americans not only eat a preponderance of processed food, but 57.9% of it is ultraprocessed1 — products at the far end of the “significantly altered” spectrum that have been robustly linked to obesity,2 ill health and early death in a number of studies.3,4,5,6,7

The developed world in general eats significant amounts of processed food, and disease statistics reveal the ramifications of this trend. Any food that isn’t directly from the vine, ground, bush, body of water or a tree is considered processed.

Depending on the amount of change the food undergoes, processing may be minimal or significant. For instance, frozen fruit is usually minimally processed, while pizza, soda, microwave meals and lab-created meat alternatives fall into the ultraprocessed category.8

The rise of processed and ultraprocessed food as dietary staples also has a largely hidden impact, in that it threatens overall food security. While edible gardens have become more popular in recent years, few are growing their own food these days, relying instead on processed fare from the grocery store, much of which is made with patented GE ingredients.

Who profits the most from GE food? The patent holders — large, multinational corporations beholden to their shareholders rather than the local community in which the crops are grown, reap the profits. Vandana Shiva, Ph.D., has been an outspoken critic9 of the industrial food movement and the GE food takeover, specifically, highlighting the many social and environmental problems a patented food system creates.

Industrialization of food threatens mankind’s survival

In a recent Independent Science News article,10 Shiva discusses the progressive attempts at industrializing the global food system with more fake foods and fake meats, and the destruction that inevitably follows:

“Food is not a commodity, it is not ‘stuff’ put together mechanically and artificially in labs and factories. Food is life. Food holds the contributions of all beings that make the food web, and it holds the potential of maintaining and regenerating the web of life.

Food also holds the potential for health and disease, depending on how it was grown and processed … As an ancient Upanishad reminds us ‘Everything is food, everything is something else’s food’ …

Hippocrates said ‘Let food be thy medicine.’ In Ayurveda, India’s ancient science of life, food is called ‘sarvausadha’ the medicine that cures all disease.

Industrial food systems have reduced food to a commodity, to ‘stuff’ that can then be constituted in the lab. In the process both the planet’s health and our health has been nearly destroyed.

75% of the planetary destruction of soil, water, biodiversity, and 50% of greenhouse gas emissions come from industrial agriculture, which also contributes to 75% of food related chronic diseases.”

Importantly, the industrialization of agriculture, in which heavy use of chemicals is the norm, denatures soil, destroys its fertility and does not return organic matter back into it. As a result, it degrades land and turns it into desert — the complete opposite of what a healthy system does.

Industrial agriculture also threatens global water supplies, draining aquifers faster than they can refill and contaminating what’s left with toxic chemicals and excess nutrients that drive toxic algae growth, resulting in vast dead zones. Plant and wildlife diversity — especially pollinating insects — are also decimated by chemical monoculture.

When you look at the whole ecological cycle, you can clearly see how industrial agriculture is a key driver of progressive destruction, yet this destructive cycle is defended in the name of affordable food and the need to feed the masses. While we certainly need to maximize food production in affordable ways, the current system is incredibly short-sighted.

While it may be helpful in the moment, its environmental effects are creating a world in which future generations will be unable to grow food or find potable water. It may sound like a fear-mongering exaggeration, but we’re really precipitously close to a time in which vast populations will be wiped out, lest we radically and rapidly change course.

It’s important to realize that once topsoil is eradicated, you cannot grow food no matter how many chemicals you add to it. In 2014, Maria-Helena Semedo, deputy director general of natural resources for the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, warned that at the current rate of topsoil degradation, all the world’s topsoil will be gone in less than 60 years.11

Today, that means we may have only about 55 years left. Water shortages are also becoming a pressing problem around the world.

Path to zero hunger

As noted by Shiva,12 “Biodiversity-intensive and poison-free agriculture … produces more nutrition per acre while rejuvenating the planet. It shows the path to ‘Zero Hunger’ …” She also points out that while industrial agriculture uses 75% of available farmland, it produces just 30% of the food we actually eat.

“Meanwhile, small, biodiverse farms using 25% of the land provide 70% of the food,” she writes.13 “At this rate, if the share of industrial agriculture and industrial food in our diet is increased to 45%, we will have a dead planet. One with no life and no food.

The mad rush for Fake Food and Fake Meat, ignorant of the diversity of our foods and food cultures, and the role of biodiversity in maintaining our health, is a recipe for accelerating the destruction of the planet and our health.”

Shiva responds to Impossible Foods’ defense of GMO soy

By now, you’re probably aware of the latest food fad: The Impossible Burger,14,15,16,17 hailed by many vegans and Silicon Valley investors as the answer to environmental problems blamed on livestock. Impossible Foods’ fake meat is made with GMO soy, specifically chosen by the company for its “sustainability.” Senior manager of impact strategy, Rebekah Moses, recently told FoodNavigator-USA:18

“We have done a tremendous amount of diligence and we’re confident that in using GMO soy, we are not taking a step backward in terms of sustainability.”

In her article in Independent Science News,19 Shiva rebuts the company’s claim, noting that:

Given the fact that 90% of the monarch butterflies have disappeared due to Roundup Ready Crops, and we are living through what scientists have called an ‘insectageddon,’ using GMO soy is hardly an ‘environmentally responsible option.’”

Shiva also points out the company’s “total ignorance” of the fact that herbicide-resistant superweeds are driving the use of ever greater amounts of more toxic herbicides.

As reported by the St. Louis Post-Dispatch,20 2,4-D — linked to cancer and endocrine dysfunction and known for its drift potential — will be doused on millions of additional acres of farmland across the Midwest and South this year. Attempts to restrict the use of dicamba in Arkansas, which has decimated the nondicamba-resistant crops over the past couple of years, also failed, with regulators choosing to relax restrictions instead.21

“At a time when across the world the movement to ban GMOs and Roundup is growing, promoting GMO soya as ‘fake meat’ is misleading the eater both in terms of the ontology of the burger, and on claims of safety,” Shiva writes in Independent Science News.22

Impossible Burger — A significant source of toxic glyphosate

Indeed, recent testing23 instigated by Moms Across America reveal the Impossible Burger contains glyphosate — a given, really, considering it’s made with GMO soy, as the herbicide becomes integrated into the whole plant and cannot be washed off. As reported by Moms Across America on May 16, 2019:24

“The total result (glyphosate and it’s break down AMPA) was 11.3 ppb. Moms Across America also tested the Beyond Meat Burger and the results were 1 ppb …

This new product is being marketed as a solution for ‘healthy’ eating, when in fact 11 ppb of glyphosate herbicide consumption can be highly dangerous. Only 0.1 ppb of glyphosate has been shown25,26,27 to alter the gene function of over 4000 genes in the livers, kidneys and cause severe organ damage in rats.28

The Impossible Burger is made of GMO soy, which has been shown to cause organ damage in animal studies29 and has been shown to be significantly different from non GMO soy.30

The GM ingredients of the Impossible Burger, which includes a genetically modified yeast and GM soy leghemoglobin proteins,31 46 of which are aundisclosed and untested,32 are even more concerning to many consumers than the long-term health effects from glyphosate because of the reported immediate allergic reaction potential,33 which is acknowledged by the manufacturer.”

Moms Across America also points out that while Impossible Foods claims the key ingredient in its fake meat — leghemoglobin soy — “has been consumed for hundreds of thousands of years,” Michael Hansen, Ph.D., a senior scientist at Consumers Union (a Consumers Reports division), has stated, “This is categorically not true.” In the same article, Living Maxwell goes on to say:

“An email to Impossible Foods asking ‘How could the heme in the Impossible Burger be ‘identical’ to the heme humans have been consuming for hundreds of thousands of years in meat and other foods if you genetically engineer it?’ has yet to be returned.”34

What’s more,35 Living Maxwell points out that while the company told the U.S. Food and Drug Administration that its soy leghemoglobin was “substantially similar” to proteins consumed in meat and other vegetables, Impossible Foods now tells customers (on its website) that this GE heme is “identical” to that found in other foods.

Just how many GE ingredients does Impossible Burger contain?

Moms Across America also warns that GMO soy might not be the only ingredient in the Impossible Burger contributing to the glyphosate load.36 Several of the ingredients in its fake meat are also available in GE form (although it’s unknown whether the company is using GE sources for them), and others may be desiccated37 (dried) with glyphosate right before harvest.

In short, any or all of the following ingredients in the Impossible Burger could potentially be GMO and/or contaminated with glyphosate:

“… Soy Protein Concentrate … Sunflower Oil, Natural Flavors … Potato Protein, Methylcellulose (possibly from cotton), Yeast Extract,38 Cultured Dextrose, Food Starch Modified, Soy Leghemoglobin … Soy Protein Isolate, Mixed Tocopherols (Vitamin E)39 … Thiamine Hydrochloride40 (Vitamin B1), Sodium Ascorbate41 (Vitamin C), Niacin, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride (Vitamin B6), Riboflavin (Vitamin B2), Vitamin B12.”42

Hypothetically, the Impossible Burger may be nearly all GMO, as only four ingredients on its list are unlikely to be GMO: water, coconut oil, zinc gluconate and salt. To quote Shiva again:43

“Recent court cases have showcased the links of Roundup to cancer. With the buildup of liabilities44 related to cancer cases, the investments in Roundup Ready GMO soya is blindness to the market. Or the hope that fooling consumers can rescue Bayer/Monsanto.”

Meat-simulated products are about profits and control

Shiva also points out another “ontological confusion” relating specifically to the fake meat industry. According to Impossible Foods, the GE yeast-derived “heme” is what makes the Impossible Burger “deliver the delicious explosion of flavor and aroma that meat-eating consumers crave.”45

“I had thought that the plant-based diet was for vegans and vegetarians, not meat lovers,” Shiva says.46 It’s a fair assumption, no doubt. But what’s really driving the burgeoning fake meat industry is not actually a vegan mindset, rather the ultimate goal is to replace real meat altogether with a patented product.

“Indeed, the promotion of fake foods seems to have more to do with giving new life to the failing GMO agriculture and the Junk Food Industry, and the threat to it from the rising of consciousness and awareness everywhere that organic, local, fresh food is real food which regenerates the planet and our health,” Shiva writes.

“This is about profits and control. He, and those jumping on the Fake Food Goldrush, have no discernible knowledge, or consciousness about, or compassion for living beings, the web of life, nor the role of living food in weaving that web.

Their sudden awakening to ‘plant based diets,’ including GMO soya, is an ontological violation of food as a living system that connects us to the ecosystem and other beings, and indicates ignorance of the diversity of cultures that have used a diversity of plants in their diets.”

In short, the rise of fake meat is an attempt at recreating the same global control of the food supply that Monsanto and others achieved through patented GMO seed development.

Now they want to do the same thing with animal products, and once living animals are eliminated and replaced with patented plant-derived alternatives — just like tradable heirloom and conventional seeds were replaced with patented seeds you have to pay for each season — private companies will effectively control the food supply in its entirety.

As Shiva points out, the rise and massive growth of fake foods will not solve any of our problems, but will “accelerate the rush to collapse” of our food system, ecology, human health and farmers’ livelihoods. I would add that it will accelerate the elimination of personal freedoms and liberties, because he who controls the food controls the people.

Impossible Foods attacks regenerative farming

As discussed in my June 26, 2019, article, “Impossible fools at Impossible Burger,” Impossible Foods directly attacks regenerative ranching in its 2019 Impact Report,47 claiming grass fed cattle ranching generates higher amounts of greenhouse gas emissions than cows raised in concentrated animal feeding operations (CAFOs).48,49

This despite recent evidence50 proving grass fed ranching actually has net negative emissions after all relevant factors are taken into account.

According to a third-party lifecycle analysis51 (LCA) — performed by the very same company that conducted Impossible Burger’s LCA — the carbon footprint of beef from White Oak Pastures (a regenerative farm) is 111% lower than conventional CAFO beef, as the “system effectively captures soil carbon, offsetting a majority of the emissions related to beef production.”

All things considered, including enteric emissions, manure emissions, soil carbon capture, vegetation carbon, miscellaneous farm activities, slaughter and transport, the total net carbon emissions from the beef production on White Oak Pastures was found to be a negative 3.5 kilos (kg) of carbon emissions per kilo of fresh meat, making this integrated, holistic system six times more carbon efficient than the average CAFO production model.

Meanwhile, Impossible Foods’ soy-based fake meat is still a carbon emitter. As reported by Civil Eats,52 while grass fed beef has a net carbon sink of 3.5 kg per kg of fresh meat, conventional soybeans produce 2 kg of carbon emissions for each kg of food, and pea protein (which Beyond Burger uses for its meat substitute) produces 4 kg of carbon for every kg of food.

So just how can fake meat be considered a more environmentally sound alternative than regenerative farming? In addition to still being a carbon emitter, GMO soy does nothing to regenerate and build soils, nothing to protect our insect and wildlife population, nothing to increase plant diversity and nothing to improve human health of consumers.

On the contrary, corn and soy, both conventional and GMO, are eliminating grasslands across the U.S. at the “fastest pace since the 1930s,” The Washington Post reported back in 2013.53

This conversion of grasslands and prairies into monocrop farm fields may actually be among the very worst environmental impacts of all. As noted in the Christian Science Monitor,54 prairie restoration (which is part of the regenerative agriculture model) “improves water retention and sequesters carbon in the soil.”

Understanding the scalability of regenerative agriculture

When confronted with the discrepancy and asked for a comment, an Impossible Foods spokesperson told Civil Eats they are “trying to raise awareness that grass fed, extensive production is simply not scalable.” Aside from sidestepping the question, this claim isn’t firmly rooted in reality, either. As White Oaks Pastures owner Will Harris told Civil Eats:55

“White Oak Pastures will never be a multinational corporation. There will never be a truly regenerative, humane, fair farm that will scale to a national level — much less multinational. Instead, every rural county in all 50 states should have a White Oak Pastures or two. That’s the way it used to be.”

In other words, one must not confuse regenerative agriculture with the industrial agriculture model where a small number of companies are producing a majority of the food.

The regenerative model requires an increase in the number of farms, not an increase in the number of cattle raised per farm. This has civil and local community benefits as well that are difficult to put a real price tag on.

In response to Impossible Foods’ baseless attack on regenerative agriculture, Harris has issued an open invitation56 to Impossible Foods’ officials to visit his farm to get a thorough understanding of how regenerative grazing actually works.

Fertilizer industry is a major emitter of methane

In related news, recent research57 has also found the fertilizer industry in the U.S. emits a whopping 29 gigagrams of methane per year — over 100 times more methane than previous industry estimates at 0.2 gigagrams per year.

Emissions from the fertilizer industry alone are also three times higher than the Environmental Protection Agency’s estimate for all methane-producing industries combined, which it claims produces 8 gigagrams of methane per year. The reason for such high methane emissions by the fertilizer industry is because it uses natural gas (which is largely methane). Co-author John Albertson told New Atlas:58

“We took one small industry that most people have never heard of and found that its methane emissions were three times higher than the EPA assumed was emitted by all industrial production in the United States. It shows us that there’s a huge gap between a priori estimates and real-world measurements.

[N]atural gas is largely methane, which molecule-per-molecule has a stronger global warming potential than carbon dioxide. The presence of substantial emissions or leaks anywhere along the supply chain could make natural gas a more significant contributor to climate change than previously thought.”

Diet is a determining factor for health and longevity

Anyone delusional enough to believe they can live a long, healthy life sustained by synthetic chemicals, toxic grains (conventional or GMO grains contaminated with pesticides and herbicides) and fake meat derived from said toxic grains is likely to, sooner or later, get a rude awakening.

While one may argue indefinitely over what type of diet is best, there’s simply no argument that real food is better for the human body than a synthetic and toxic one. Any claim to the contrary can safely be disregarded is a PR ploy. So, if you care about your health and well-being, you simply need to make real food a high priority. To get started, consider the following guidelines:

Focus on raw, fresh foods and avoid as many processed foods as possible (if it comes in a can, bottle or package and has a list of ingredients, it’s processed).

Replace sodas and other sweetened beverages with pure, filtered water.

Shop around the perimeter of the grocery store where most of the whole foods reside, such as meat, fruits, vegetables, eggs and cheese. Not everything around the perimeter is healthy, but you’ll avoid many of the ultraprocessed foods this way.

Vary the whole foods you purchase and the way you eat them. For instance, carrots and peppers are tasty dipped in organic hummus. You get the crunch of the vegetable and smooth texture of the hummus to satisfy your taste, your brain and your physical health.

Stress creates a physical craving for fats and sugar that may drive your addictive, stress-eating behavior. If you can recognize when you’re getting stressed and find another means of relieving the emotion, your eating habits will likely improve.

The Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) can help reduce your perceived stress, change your eating habits around stress and help you create new, healthier eating habits that support your long-term health. To discover more about EFT, how to do it and how it may help reduce your stress and develop new habits, see my previous article, “EFT Is an Effective Tool for Anxiety.”

5 recalls on blood pressure meds so far this year

Many of the small decisions you make each day have a compound effect on your overall health, including what you eat and drink, how much you exercise and even how you breathe. Sometimes small changes may pay big dividends and the same is true of the small, unhealthy decisions you may make.

The rising number of people suffering from high blood pressure, increasing their risk for heart disease and stroke, is a testimony to the changing health habits experienced around the world. Lifestyle choices have a significant effect on your blood pressure.

The updated guidelines1 released in 2017 have increased the number of Americans now recognized as being at risk for heart attack and stroke. According to the American Heart Association,2 an estimated 103 million adults in the U.S. have high blood pressure, which is nearly half of all adults.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports that 32% of adults in the U.S. had high blood pressure and another 33% had prehypertension before the guidelines were changed.3 While the old guidelines listed high blood pressure as a measurement higher than 140/90, the new guidelines read as:4

  • Normal: Less than 120/80 mm Hg
  • Elevated: Systolic between 120-129 and diastolic less than 80
  • Stage 1: Systolic between 130-139 or diastolic between 80-89
  • Stage 2: Systolic at least 140 or diastolic at least 90 mm Hg

The new guidelines were developed in response to a mounting body of evidence suggesting early intervention may reduce the number who suffer the secondary effects associated with rising blood pressure. Cardiologist Dr. Kenneth Jamerson, who was an author of the new guidelines, commented:5

“Before this guideline, if your blood pressure was at 130, you weren’t supposed to do anything. With the new [high blood pressure] guideline, we’re having patients do something about it.”

Blood pressure drug recalls after toxin found — Again

One of the common interventions recommended by physicians is the use of antihypertensive medications to reduce high blood pressure. While these medications usually come with a long list of side effects, one side effect that is not expected is contamination with a known human carcinogen.6 The first recall in the U.S. happened only after the medication was recalled in 22 other countries7 when concerns grew over the active ingredient valsartan, which is sourced from China.8

The first recall in the U.S. occurred in mid-2018 after the drug was recalled across Europe9 following information that an impurity, N-nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA), had been identified as part of the manufacturing process. The antihypertensive medication is commonly used to control high blood pressure and heart failure.

NDMA was originally used to make rocket fuel,10 but its use was discontinued when it was found to contribute to the development of liver and lung cancer.11,12 The initial recall included drugs sold by three pharmaceutical companies. However, the recalls did not stop there.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced it expanded the recall of blood pressure medications for the fifth time in 2019 to losartan. This included dozens of batches recalled by the FDA, as they contained trace amounts of the nitrosamine N-Nitroso N-Methyl 4-amino butyric acid (NMBA), linked to the development of bladder cancer in animal studies.13,14

The discovery of the contamination was announced March 1 by the FDA15 in a press release. Three weeks later The New England Journal of Medicine16 announced the FDA would allow manufacturers to temporarily sell the contaminated medication and expected losartan to be back on the shelf without impurities in six months.

The FDA is advising those taking the recalled drugs to continue their medication but work with their physician immediately to find an alternative. The FDA says there is not a current shortage of losartan but suggests any future recalls may lead to shortages. An FDA spokesperson told NBC News they could not predict how long the recalls would continue, and:17

“Currently, valsartan, olmesartan and eprosartan products are in shortage, and we know that other types of products have the potential to fall into shortage soon.

It is important to know that not all ARB [angiotensin II receptor blockers] products contain impurities, so pharmacists may be able to provide a refill of medication from batches that are not affected by the recall, or doctors may prescribe a different medication that treats the same indications.”

Contamination found in more than blood pressure pills

CNN18 reports Valisure, an online pharmacy that says they batch test all their medications,19 tested Valsartan and found n-dimethylformamide (DMF) in levels higher than expected. It shared the details with the FDA in a citizen’s petition.

DMF is a chemical solvent easily absorbed through the skin with known adverse effects,20 including liver damage.21 Additionally, some reports have suggested an increasing number of cancers in those who are exposed to DMF.22

Contamination of high blood pressure medications are not the only challenges faced by the pharmaceutical industry. In a news report by Kaiser Health News,23 journalists uncovered thousands of issues reported since 2013. Pharmaceutical companies based in the U.S. or Europe have recalled 8,000 different medications that have entered the U.S. drug supply.

These recalls represent only a fraction of the drugs shipped, but KHN24 reported the products contained a range of pollutants from dangerous bacteria, fungi or tiny glass particles. The recalled medications may also have had too much or too little of the drug’s active ingredient.

Over the same time period, 65 manufacturing facilities recalled nearly 300 products. However, some of these recalled medications had already damaged patients’ health. One was a stool softener contaminated with the bacterium Burkholderia cepacia, which was given to a young child on a heart transplant list.

The bacterium found its way to the boy’s respiratory tract, which temporarily took him off the transplant list. The infection resurfaced after the transplant and infected his lungs, creating a problem that has required mechanical ventilation ever since.25

Plant passed inspection while medication infected children

Unfortunately, tracking how often tainted medication causes sickness or death is nearly impossible since no governmental agency tracks this information unless it’s linked to a major outbreak.26 The FDA is tasked with inspecting factories producing drugs for the U.S. market, but after reviewing thousands of documents KHN found inspectors were missing serious hazards.

Even after the FDA took enforcement action, drug makers were failing to meet standards and hundreds of plants had not been inspected for years. During one inspection27 of Zhejiang Huahai Pharmaceutical Co. in Zhejiang, China, inspectors found multiple problems. Reinspection one year later came when complaints were received that NDMA was present in drugs produced in the plant.

According to the investigation by KHN,28 the FDA has had no drug quality inspection records available over the past 10 years for more than 1,200 plants in the U.S. and nearly 400 abroad. The stool softener infecting young Anderson Moreno before his heart transplant, made by PharmaTech, was also responsible for the death of a 9-month-old girl in Pittsburgh.

According to federal records reviewed by KHN, the FDA inspectors were at the plant based in Florida during the same time the stool softener was wreaking havoc in lives across the U.S. The plant passed inspection with no citations.

It was later found the bacterium was in the water used to clean equipment and used to make liquid products. PharmaTech CEO Ray Figueroa announced the successful inspection three days after the death of the 9-month-old girl, calling it29 “a testimony to PharmaTech’s commitment to world-class quality.”

The same medication was responsible for 63 confirmed infections and 45 suspected cases in 12 states, according to a report by the FDA.30 The KHN report cites instances when plant employees held up inspections, were tipped off before a “surprise” inspection or relied on translators provided by the drug companies.31

Damage from high blood pressure a long-term challenge

High blood pressure may damage your body in many ways, as it affects your heart, brain and other important organs.32 The condition can hurt you for years before symptoms develop, which is why it’s often called the “silent killer.”

When uncontrolled, you may be left with a disability or even a fatal heart attack. High blood pressure may eventually damage and narrow your arteries and their inner lining. This makes them less elastic and limits blood flow.33

Over time, with higher pressure in the arterial system, a weakened artery may enlarge and form a bulge, called an aneurysm. Aneurysms may potentially rupture, and depending where they are located, can be life-threatening. Long-term high blood pressure may damage your coronary arteries, enlarge your left heart and increase your risk of heart failure.

High blood pressure may also increase your risk of a major stroke as well as mini strokes, called transient ischemic attacks. Vascular dementia may be the result of narrowed and blocked arteries, restricting blood supply to the brain.34

High blood pressure may cause kidney failure and scarring.35 Adults with high blood pressure have a 20% higher risk of chronic kidney disease.36 The delicate blood vessels in your eyes may be damaged if you have high blood pressure, resulting in a condition leading to bleeding in the retina and possibly complete loss of vision.37

Use natural methods to help manage your blood pressure

Before making any decision about your health, it’s important to understand the risks and benefits of each choice you might make. While blood pressure medications have side effects, stopping them suddenly puts you at risk for a heart attack.38

There are multiple lifestyle choices to consider if you would like to seek natural ways of addressing your high blood pressure and keeping it within a normal range. One of the most important dietary changes you may make to affect your blood pressure is to reduce sugar and processed fructose in your diet.39

The easiest way to reduce fructose is to replace processed foods with real, whole foods. This not only addresses insulin and leptin resistance but also helps reduce elevated uric acid levels,40 both of which are significant factors in blood pressure. In one study,41 researchers discovered that those who consumed 74 grams or more per day of fructose had a 77% greater risk of high blood pressure.

By checking your fasting insulin level, you may see whether insulin and leptin resistance are at play. Check with your doctor regarding the right42 levels to reduce your risk of high blood pressure and other cardiovascular health problems. Here are several more tips to help you get started.43

Keep your weight in check — Being overweight strains your heart, so make sure you maintain a healthy weight to lower your blood pressure. According to the American Heart Association,44 losing as little as 5 to 10 pounds may significantly lower your risk.

Manage your stress — Stress may cause short-term spikes in your blood pressure levels and encourage habits that are bad for your heart. Determine your stress triggers and find a way to manage your emotions when faced with difficult situations.

Some good examples of activities that may help lower your stress levels include yoga, meditation, Emotional Freedom Techniques and breathing techniques.

Make exercising a regular habit — Exercising regularly may help maintain healthy weight and ease stress, which in turn may reduce your high blood pressure. A report by the American College of Cardiology advises moderate- to vigorous-intensity workouts for 40 minutes, three to four times a week.45

Load up on vitamin D — Vitamin D deficiency is found to cause arterial stiffness,46,47 which may lead to high blood pressure.48 You may increase your vitamin D levels through sensible sun exposure49 or by eating foods rich in this nutrient, including wild-caught Alaskan salmon50 and organic eggs.51

Incorporate the Nitric Oxide Dump — The Nitric Oxide Dump workout has multiple benefits, but one key factor is the release of nitric oxide. It is one of the most important molecules for blood vessel health that acts as a vasodilator, which means it causes your blood vessels to expand and dilate, promoting blood flow and lowering your blood pressure.

Andromedan Message To Humanity

Special thanks to Terra Nova,

Years ago we got a message from the Andromeda, 385 light years away, and I believed it…

Many of you noticed that your weather is changing.
You have area’s with drought and some with to much rain.
Sometimes it’s cold when it is supposed to be hot. Earthquakes and volcanoes are more common than before and you are wondering why.

Years ago, your scientists had a theory about nuclear physics.
They thought it was possible to split the atom and they were right, but they only understood part of the nuclear reactions, and were unaware of the subatomic particles that were released by these nuclear reactions.
Your scientists thought they understood, and little did they know, that the subatomic particles pass through the containment vessels and damage it, so after a decade, larger parts of the atom are able to escape.

This was a disaster and your scientists became aware of the damage caused by sub atomic particles, but they did Nothing to avert the destruction.

The scientists began to notice a hole in your ozone layer which allows deadly rays to attack the earth.

Still your scientists did nothing, because your leaders were greedy and they only cared about money and they IGNORED all life forms.

Earlier we considered which life forms should exist.
Logic tells you that any form of life which does not consider other forms of life and allows all forms of life to perish, should perish too, doesn’t it?

This Ozone protects the life on earth that all other life depends up on.
It protects all living creatures from ultra violet light, which kills all life forms.

Skin cancer used to occur in only 1 in 1.500 people, and today it’s 1 in 150.,( and this was I think about 6/7 years ago)You can imagine how much it is today.
Does this suggest that something is wrong?

Do you think that your leaders are not aware of this? They amass fortunes, which can not be spent, unless life prevails.
They seek every opportunity to make a profit, but they do not tend to the preservation of the planet, so what good is the money.

Greed makes people stupid !!!

The lust for power over others is the driving force, as well
This is why greed and the lust for power are vices, not virtues

Nuclear testing has now been done by many of your nations and each one is contributing to the destruction of life on your planet.

Life has NO chance to survive now on your planet.
Soon, all life will cease to exist here on this beautiful planet.

We can not save you and your leaders, have no desire to save you.

They seek profits NOW and they don’t care about tomorrow or the big picture.
They are foolish and they deserve to pay the price, which is a high price.
We will not intervene, for this is your job.

We have a duty to tell you and if you do not take action, as individuals, you will pay a price too.

Let me leave you with one last thought:
We are all ONE

You have 2 choices
1. Take action or,
2. do nothing
People, who put forth no action are worthless, and they deserve to fail.
Those who take action are valuable and their value continuous to grow, like the base of a pyramid.
We are finished and now we must go.

They were very clear about things and really knew what is going on on this planet, but were quite harsh and could not believe what we have been doing to this planet, to each other, humans, animals and nature.
And I cried when I red it all. They were absolutely right, and I am not a scientist, so I don’t know and can not prove it, but me too, I am really concerned what they are all doing and they really don’t know the consequences, but I have the feeling they are killing us slowly, but surely.

You can get a million people in the streets when a base or football team wins and comes back to their hometown, but you hardly can get people to protest against the Elite and consorts and big Pharma, chemtrails and all the other very bad things that are happening and everything is secretly done. When I wake up and see about 12 chemtrails above my house in the sky, I feel very uncomfortable. And it is the same with that split of the atom, the scientists did not know the consequences, so they put the blame on the people and I believe we did things to help that situation. I wished I could find a scientist who could verify it, but they all keep their mouth closed and now a “few” more years later, everything is worse now where we don’t know about.

Like they said to: If you don’t clean house, nature will do it for you.

This is a fundamental Law of the Universe. There are Universal Laws that must be OBEYED.
They asked:
Should those societies which can not overcome greed, exist at all?Another failed because some would quickly sell out the rest for a quick profit.
We have seen this on your planet and if you have been unaware of it, until now, you have no more excuses.
Now you do know. Do something about it.
Service to self does not work
Service to others does work
Each individual in a society must be moral being.
When a Society loses it’s morality, it must perish to make way for those with good intentions.
Do you think anyone would desire to live in an unjust world, an immoral Universe
Do you agree that nature should be compromised of the best and not be contaminated with inferior qualities of life.
So please do not ask us to save you, when you get into trouble.
Nature does not smile on you who prolong the life of a dying breed of species.
Plant seeds. The exponential growth of seeds is a design by extraterrestrials, because we wanted this to be a world of plenty.
Those that control you, have convinced you that there is scarcity and they force you to do without most things you want.
Don’t accept this ! Plant seeds..

I personally hope the Creator will intervene, but He does not do that before we have tried our utmost best to do something about it. Nature will do something about it, is has started to clean the earth but, the whole cleaning will not be pretty, it will be an end and in the same time a new beginning, but what I don’t like that people do nothing and our children and grandchildren might have to fight OUR battle, because we did not do it, and I think personally, if you don’t protest governments and all other stuff, you are half guilty of everything, then you deserve to be conquered. It is such a mess in this world, we are like sheep really and it is not a question of being asleep, it is the choice to stay asleep until it hits people in their own backyard.
Another time I will write what they all wrote and advised.
They watched our planet (they used this expression, which they picked up from us, they said) 24/7, so day and night for some time and I think they were really perplexed that it was so bad here, caught in this matrix. So this was it, I don’t know what you think of it, and in that sense I don’t care who believes it, but something must be done, that is for sure, we will be conquered very soon I think and it is very late.

When I was young there were protest marches all over and we would be there and big protest marches mostly help, but western countries are incredible. I wished they would have protest marches, I walk on crutches and am quite old now. I protest by CP now and get thrown out a lot of times, but that does not matter, but I did something at least.

God bless all of you.

Cobra Update 7-1-19… “Flower of Life”

This Cobra update I found quite significant, as it explains the many energetic, and deep, transformations in which the planet is now involved. Some of this also might explain why many I know (including myself) have felt “moved” to not move anywhere at this time, and to “stay grounded” where we are.

Key parts to me are that “the process towards the Event is now accelerated”, our “main focus now is to anchor as much Light as possible in the situation as it is now”, and that “the Cintamani grid around the planet is being activated to the next level”.

Oh, yes, and “The lattice of non-sacred geometries is the basis of Matrix construct which surrounds the planet” and “The antidote to non-sacred geometries is the Flower of Life”.

So there you go. As always, suggest using one’s own Higher Discernment when reading.

Flower of Life

In the last few months since mid-April, planet Earth was fluctuating between the gamma timeline (Light Intervention) and delta timeline (Planetary Annihilation).

All intel about this was strictly classified as too much focus on negative timeline would increase the probability of its manifestation.

During this time, the Light Forces were clearing one very dangerous layer of plasma anomaly with toplet bombs.

This layer has been successfully removed on June 21st around noon GMT and the danger has been greatly reduced. Although some toplet bombs still exist, and some plasma / quantum fluctuation primary anomaly still needs to be cleared, the positive gamma timeline is now much more secure.

The June 21st success of the Light Forces has brought much fresh positive luminous plasma into our Solar System and this positive plasma has excited the mesosphere around planet Earth later that day to produce some awesome noctilucent clouds:

The Light Forces have communicated that for the first time since 1996 Archon invasion, Ascension archangels are again present in our Solar System.

A few days later, rainbow cloudships began to appear in China.

In Xiamen on June 24th:

And in Guangzhou and Nanning on June 28th.

The Light Forces have communicated that the process towards the Event is now accelerated and there is no time to build physical Islands of Light before the Compression Breakthrough. If you feel guided to continue with Island of Light projects feel free to do so, but main focus now is to anchor as much Light as possible in the situation as it is now, to stabilize the transition.

The Light Forces are now starting to clear the main anomaly which has engulfed planet Earth in 1996.

The main anomaly consists of all potential, not yet manifested combinations / perturbations of primary anomaly quantum wave function in quantum foam:

Occultist Kenneth Grant was aware of the danger of primary anomaly exploding from the plasmatic Tunnels of Set into ordinary reality long before the invasion happened in 1996. He wrote in his book Nightside of Eden, published in 1977, the following:

Dark anomalous plasma near the surface of planet Earth is arranged by the dark forces based on trapezoidal non-harmonious geometrical shapes and also by distorted non-Euclidean geometries:

One of the main occultists of the dark forces, Michael Aquino, has developed a ritual named “the ceremony of the nine angles” to enforce trapezoidal non-sacred geometries in negative occult rituals and this ritual is widely used by the dark forces since 1970s.

The lattice of non-sacred geometries is the basis of Matrix construct which surrounds the planet.

The antidote to non-sacred geometries is the Flower of Life:

The Light Forces are now asking everybody to use Flower of Life sacred geometry as much as possible.

You can visualize golden Flower of Life sphere around your energy field as protection:

You can put Flower of Life stickers to any location on the planet that needs healing:

The Light Forces are strongly supporting this project, as you can see in this crop circle:

Another crop circle hints at Chimera spiders being taken to the Central Sun:

It is interesting to note that this crop circle has appeared exactly on June 21st.

The plasmatic Chimera spiders are being taken from the Tunnels of Set (dark plasma filaments) into the Galactic Central Sun right now.

The third crop circle communicates that the Cintamani grid around the planet is being activated to the next level:
