Quercetin Lowers Your Risk for Viral Illnesses

Your immune system is your first-line defense against bacterial and viral infections, so the most effective way to prevent infectious illness is maintaining robust immune function. Your diet and other lifestyle factors are foundational for this, but certain supplements can also be helpful.

One such supplement is quercetin,1 an antioxidant flavonol found naturally in apples, plums, red grapes, green tea, elder flower and onions, just to name a few.2

Quercetin is one of those compounds with a wide range of benefits, making it useful for a variety of different conditions. That said, it’s perhaps most known for its strong antioxidant3 and antiviral4 activity. Elderflower extract, which is rich in quercetin, is also a traditional tonic used to boost immunity.

In supplement form, quercetin has been used to ameliorate obesity, Type 2 diabetes,5 circulatory dysfunction, chronic inflammation, hay fever and mood disorders.6 Several studies have also highlighted quercetin’s ability to prevent and treat the common cold and influenza.7

In fact, its antiviral capacity appears to be the primary focus of many studies looking at quercetin’s benefits. But there are also other, less known uses for this supplement, including blood pressure control and tumor regression.

Quercetin May Lower Blood Pressure

For example, there’s evidence to suggest quercetin benefits the heart, and can help lower blood pressure in patients with Stage 1 high blood pressure. As noted in one 2007 study:8

“Epidemiological studies report that quercetin … is associated with reduced risk of coronary heart disease and stroke … Men and women with prehypertension and stage 1 hypertension were enrolled in a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, crossover study to test the efficacy of 730 mg quercetin/d for 28 d[ays] vs. placebo.

Blood pressure at enrollment was … 148 +/- 2/96 +/- 1 in stage 1 hypertensive subjects … [R]eductions in systolic (-7 +/- 2 mm Hg), diastolic (-5 +/- 2 mm Hg), and mean arterial pressures (-5 +/- 2 mm Hg) were observed in stage 1 hypertensive patients after quercetin treatment … These data are the first to our knowledge to show that quercetin supplementation reduces blood pressure in hypertensive subjects.”

Quercetin May Regress Tumors

Another study,9 published in Scientific Reports in 2016, found quercetin has the ability to trigger tumor regression by interacting with your DNA and activating the mitochondrial pathway of apoptosis, which is the programmed cell death of damaged cells. As noted in the abstract of this study:

“… quercetin induced cytotoxicity in leukemic cells in a dose-dependent manner … Besides leukemic cells, quercetin also induced cytotoxicity in breast cancer cells, however, its effect on normal cells was limited or none.

Further, quercetin caused S phase arrest during cell cycle progression in tested cancer cells … Importantly, administration of quercetin lead to ~5 fold increase in the life span in tumor bearing mice compared to that of untreated controls.

Further, we found that quercetin interacts with DNA directly, and could be one of the mechanisms for inducing apoptosis in both cancer cell lines and tumor tissues by activating the intrinsic pathway. Thus, our data suggests that quercetin can be further explored for its potential to be used in cancer therapeutics and combination therapy.”

How Quercetin Combats Inflammation and Boosts Immunity

As mentioned, quercetin is most known for boosting immunity and combating inflammation. As noted in a 2016 study10 in the journal Nutrients, mechanisms of action include (but is not limited to) the inhibition of:11

Lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced tumor necrosis factor ? (TNF-?) production in macrophages (TNF-? is a cytokine involved in systemic inflammation, secreted by activated macrophages, a type of immune cell that digests foreign substances, microbes and other harmful or damaged components)

LPS-induced mRNA levels of TNF-? and interleukin (IL)-1? in glial cells, which results in “diminished apoptotic neuronal cell death”

The production of inflammation-producing enzymes

Calcium influx into the cell, which in turn inhibits:

? Pro-inflammatory cytokine release

? Histamine and serotonin release from intestinal mast cells release12

According to this paper, quercetin also stabilizes mast cells, has cytoprotective activity in the gastrointestinal tract, and “a direct regulatory effect on basic functional properties of immune cells,” which allows it to inhibit “a huge panoply of molecular targets in the micromolar concentration range, either by down-regulating or suppressing many inflammatory pathways and functions.”13

The following figure from the journal Nutrients14 shows the many possible pathways by which quercetin inhibits inflammation and boosts immune function. Table 1 in this study also summarizes the primary effects of quercetin on inflammation and immune function depending on the specific cell line used in the investigation.

Demonstrated Health Benefits of Quercetin

In animal models, quercetin has been shown to:15

  • Ameliorate the inflammatory response induced by carrageenan,16 a common food additive
  • Reduce the production of TNF-? in visceral adipose tissue (intra-abdominal fat that raises your risk of health complications such as Type 2 diabetes and heart disease)
  • Reduce clinical signs of arthritis
  • Improve recovery of motor function after spinal cord injury (according to this paper, “Intraperitoneal doses of 5-100 micromoles quercetin/kg body weight resulted in half or more of the animals walking … This ability to promote recovery from spinal cord injury appears to be highly dependent on the dose and frequency of dosing”

In human studies, quercetin has been shown to:17

  • Reduce total sick days and symptom severity associated with upper-respiratory tract infection (URTI) in physically fit individuals over the age of 40 (dosage: 500 or 1000 mg/day for 12 weeks)
  • Significantly reduce risk of illness, inflammation and oxidative stress after intense exercise
  • Augment innate immune function in exercise-stressed athletes
  • Reduce viral illness and boost mental performance after extreme physical stress that might otherwise undermine your immune function (in one study,18,19 45% in the placebo group got sick with a cold or influenza after a strenuous three-day exercise routine, compared to just 5% in the treatment group, which received 1,000 milligrams quercetin combined with vitamin C and niacin to improve absorption)
  • Protect against abroad spectrum of pathogens, including rhinoviruses, adenoviruses and coronaviruses

Quercetin Is a Potent Antiviral Remedy

Indeed, several studies have confirmed quercetin’s effectiveness against a range of viral infections. Below, I list some of them. In summary, quercetin’s powerful antiviral effects can be attributed to three main mechanisms of action:

  1. Inhibiting the virus’ ability to infect cells
  2. Inhibiting replication of already infected cells
  3. Reducing infected cells’ resistance to treatment with antiviral medication

A 1985 study found quercetin inhibits infectivity and replication of herpes simplex virus type 1, polio-virus type 1, parainfluenza virus type 3 and respiratory syncytial virus.20

A 2010 animal study21 found quercetin inhibits influenza A and B viruses. Two other important discoveries were made:

  1. The viruses were unable to develop resistance to quercetin
  2. When used concomitant with antiviral drugs (amantadine or oseltamivir), the effect was significantly amplified — and it prevented drug-resistance from developing

A 2004 animal study investigating quercetin’s effect on influenza used a strain of the H3N2 virus. According to the authors:22

“In the mice, instillation of influenza virus A/Udorn/317/72(H3N2) intranasally resulted in a significant decrease in the pulmonary concentrations of catalase, reduced glutathione and superoxide dismutase … These effects were observed on the 5th day after viral instillation.

Oral supplementation with quercetin simultaneous with viral instillation produced significant increases in the pulmonary concentrations of catalase, reduced glutathione and superoxide dismutase … 

It is concluded that during influenza virus infection, there is ‘oxidative stress.’ Because quercetin restored the concentrations of many antioxidants, it is proposed that it may be useful as a drug in protecting the lung from the deleterious effects of oxygen derived free radicals released during influenza virus infection.”

In 2014, researchers noted that quercetin appears to be “a promising treatment for the common cold” caused by the rhinovirus, adding that “Quercetin has been shown to reduce viral internalization and replication in vitro, and viral load, lung inflammation and airways hyper-responsiveness in vivo.”23

By attenuating oxidative damage, it also lowers your risk of secondary bacterial infections, which is actually the primary cause of influenza-related deaths. Importantly, quercetin increases mitochondrial biogenesis in skeletal muscle, which suggests part of its antiviral effects are due to enhanced mitochondrial antiviral signaling. According to the authors:

“… [I]n vitro studies have demonstrated that quercetin acts as a potent antiviral agent by inhibiting viral replication of several respiratory viruses, including influenza virus, parainfluenza virus, respiratory syncytial virus, adenovirus and rhinovirus. Although the quercetin’s antiviral mechanisms are not well understood, a number of possibilities have been proposed and is summarized in Figure 1.”

Research24 published in 2015 found quercetin inhibited hepatitis B virus replication in human liver cells, protecting cells from infection and limiting the spread of infection in already infected samples. What’s more, when combined with antiviral drugs (lamivudine, entecavir or adefovir), the antiviral effect was greatly enhanced.

According to the authors, “The results indicate that quercetin inhibited HBV [hepatitis B virus] antigen secretion and genome replication in human hepatoma cell lines, which suggests that quercetin may be a potentially effective anti-HBV agent.” Other studies25,26 show quercetin can inhibit hepatitis C infection as well.

A 2016 animal study found quercetin inhibited mouse hepatitis virus and the dengue virus.27

Another 2016 study found quercetin offered protection against influenza A virus H1N1 by modulating protein expression. More specifically, the regulation of heat shock proteins, fibronectin 1 and prohibitin was instrumental in reducing viral replication.28

A third study published in 2016 found quercetin inhibited a wide spectrum of influenza strains, including H1N1, H3N2 and H5N1. According to the authors, “This study indicates that quercetin showing inhibitory activity in the early stage of influenza infection provides a future therapeutic option to develop effective, safe and affordable natural products for the treatment and prophylaxis of [influenza A viruses] infections.”29

Quercetin a Far Safer Alternative to Antiviral Drugs

Considering the powerful antiviral effects of quercetin, it would be sensible to make use of it first, before resorting to antiviral drugs such as Tamiflu. Not only has Tamiflu been shown to shorten the duration of flu symptoms by less than 17 hours,30,31 it also does not reduce viral transmission and does not lower your risk of complications from the flu, such as pneumonia.32,33

Scientists have also warned that the risks of Tamiflu far outweigh the benefits.34 These risks include convulsions, brain infections, psychosis and other neuropsychiatric problems,35 including mood swings, suicidal feelings, auditory hallucinations, memory deterioration and insomnia.36

The drug is particularly risky for children, and more than half of all children taking Tamiflu suffer side effects from the drug.37,38 Considering its risks, and its limited effectiveness, quercetin appears to be a far safer and more effective alternative. Studies have repeatedly found quercetin to be nontoxic, with no adverse side effects.

How Much Omega-3 Do You Need?

Dietary fats are essential to good health. Although it is harmful to eat too many of some, or not enough of others, without healthy fats your body will not work properly.1 Fat is used to keep your skin and hair healthy, absorb certain vitamins and insulate your body to keep you warm. Certain fats are essential since your body cannot make them.

Fat is required for brain development as well as controlling inflammation and blood clotting. The most dangerous type of dietary fat is trans fat, which is found in baked goods and processed foods.2 During processing, healthy oils may be turned into solids through a process called hydrogenation to extend their shelf life. During this process, trans fats are formed.

There are no health benefits from trans fats and it is not safe to eat any amount of them. Polyunsaturated fats are essential, which means you must eat them since your body doesn’t make them. The two main types are omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids. The number identifies the chemical bond in the fat.

While both are essential, most people eat them in the wrong ratio, which leads to an increase in chronic inflammation.3 Omega-6 is found in high concentrations in processed foods, corn oil, sunflower oil and safflower oil. The ideal ratio of omega-3 to omega-6 fats is 1-to-1.4 Unfortunately, the typical Western diet has a ratio up to 1-to-16.

Maintaining a low ratio may help reduce your risk of many of the chronic diseases prevalent in Western society. The excessive intake of omega-6 fats nearly tripled in the last 100 years with the introduction of vegetable oils.5 Researchers believe they may have discovered a formula that would help 95% of people raise their omega-3 index to a healthy range from 8% to 12%.6

What Is an Omega-3 Index?

Measuring omega-3 levels in your blood provides an indication of risk for chronic disease. In this short video William Harris, Ph.D., discusses the omega-3 index and the importance it has in evaluating your disease risk.

Omega-3 is measured on your red blood cells as a reflection of the amount found in the rest of your body. Before Harris developed the test in 2004, an assay was not available. Since the life span of a red blood cell is about 120 days,7 the test measures an average of your intake and isn’t influenced by a recent meal that was high in omega-3.

The test has been used to evaluate data from several studies, including the Framingham Study and the Women’s Health Initiative.8 The index is expressed as a percent of all fatty acids in the red blood cell membrane.9 Data from studies Harris performed showed the healthy range of omega-3 is from 8% to 12%.10

An international team of scientists led by researchers from Penn State University and OmegaQuant Analytics used the omega-3 index to model how it might be affected by eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) supplementation.11 These are long-chain fatty acids found in animal-based omega-3 fats.12

Achieving Your Target Omega-3 Index

As Harris determined, maintaining your omega-3 index in a low risk range reduces your chance of getting heart disease. However, it’s been challenging for researchers and consumers to determine how much supplementation might be needed to achieve a healthy range.

The team’s objective was to study the effects of EPA and DHA supplementation on volunteers’ omega-3 index levels.13 Using a literature review, they identified data from 1,422 individuals participating in intervention trials where measurements of omega-3 index, sex, age, weight and duration of treatment were all recorded.

There were 846 individuals who were given EPA and DHA supplements, while 576 were given placebos. After analysis, the researchers found the supplement formulation, dose and baseline omega-3 index were predictors of response to the intervention.

The scientists believe the model they developed could be used by researchers to help estimate the physiological response to a dose and form of supplementation.14 As reported in NutraIngredients-USA,15 a dose of 2 grams of EPA and DHA in the triglyceride form is needed to raise omega-3 levels more than supplements in the ethyl ester form. The researchers said:16

“A dose of about 2000 mg/d of EPA + DHA is much higher than current recommended intakes to reduce CVD [cardiovascular disease] risk.

The 2015-2020 Dietary Guidelines for Americans recommend 8 oz of fish per week, which is said to be equivalent to about 250 mg/d EPA + DHA, and the American Heart Association recommends 1-2 servings of “oily” fish per week (assumed to approximate 500 mg/d EPA + DHA) to reduce CVD risk. Using the model and assuming the TG (triglyceride) form, these EPA + DHA intakes would increase the O3I from 4% to ~6%.”

Omega-3 EPA and DHA are available in several forms, including triglyceride, ethyl ester, phospholipid and free fatty acid.17 The featured study evaluated the use of omega-3 in the triglyceride form, which is more prevalent in the food supply. In comparison, the ethyl ester form is chemically connected to ethanol during processing enabling EPA and DHA to be concentrated in supplements.

Health Benefits Associated With Achieving Target Levels

Harris18 found a significant association between the omega-3 index and the risk for coronary heart disease. Based on his results, he proposed that those with an omega-3 index below 4% were at high risk; those with an index from 4% to 8% experienced intermediate risk and those who had an index greater than 8% had a low risk for coronary heart disease.

In an effort to understand how this may occur, Harris and a team of researchers19 investigated levels of omega 3 compared to telomere length. The study involved 608 outpatients, through whom researchers identified an inverse relationship in the baseline levels of omega-3 fatty acids and telomere shortening over a five-year period.

In a subsequent study20 researchers used a randomized control trial to assess the effect of omega-3 supplementation on telomere length and oxidative stress. This four-month study21 involved evaluation of 138 middle-aged and older adults who were classified as overweight and sedentary. They found that telomere length increased with a decreasing omega-6 to omega-3 ratio. This suggests that even over a short study period, the ratio could impact cell aging.

A reduction in inflammation and improved cardiovascular health may also influence other health benefits associated with omega-3 fats, including:

  • Fewer asthma symptoms22
  • Brain23 and eye24 development
  • Reduced risk of Parkinson’s disease25
  • Reduced risk of multiple sclerosis26
  • Reduced risk of depression27,28

Differences Between Plant and Animal Based Omega-3

Although omega-3 fat may be found in plant and animal sources, it’s the animal-based sources that have higher levels of EPA and DHA. Plant-based sources such as raw nuts and seeds are high in alpha-linolenic acid (ALA). These are shorter chain omega-3 fats and are also essential since your body cannot make them.29

While all three are needed to keep you healthy, it’s important to know that plant-based sources are higher in ALA and animal-based sources are higher in EPA and DHA.30

Your body is able to make some EPA and DHA from the short chain ALA in plant-based sources, but it does so inefficiently. The conversion is not enough for optimal brain growth and development or to reduce the inflammatory effects of omega-6 in your body.

Choose Krill Oil Over Fish Oil for Omega-3

The best omega-3 supplement is from an animal-based source. Krill oil and fish oil provide both EPA and DHA, but while krill is sustainable, fish oil has a greater potential for contamination. In addition, fish oil has a higher risk of oxidative damage that can occur during processing and after you open the bottle.31

In an analysis of fish oil available over the counter in Canada, researchers analyzed 171 supplements from 49 brands.32 The scientists found 50% of the samples exceeded one measurement of oxidation and 39% exceeded what is considered safe by international standards.

Another research team found that 25.9% of fish oil tested in the U.S. had more than twice the recommended levels of lipid peroxides and 92.5% had measurable amounts of mercury.33 It’s important to remember that these tests were done on supplements before the bottles were opened, which increases exposure to oxygen and subsequent oxidative damage.

Krill oil is not as unstable because it also contains astaxanthin which reduces oxidative damage. In addition to a lower rate of contamination, krill oil is far more potent than fish oil. In one study,34 participants who took krill oil required only 62.8% of the amount of those taking fish oil to achieve the same results.

The Vitamin D and Omega-3 Relationship

Vitamin D and omega-3 have several things in common.35 They both play important roles in your overall and cardiovascular health. Additionally, there is evidence that most people are deficient in both.

This sparked the VITAL study,36 in which researchers at Brigham and Women’s Hospital began evaluating the effects of daily dietary supplementation of vitamin D3 or omega-3 fatty acids. They are interested in learning whether these dietary additions may reduce the risk that someone without cardiovascular disease or cancer will develop it in the future.

The study includes 25,871 men and women across the U.S.; data are still being compiled and evaluated. In a related study,37 co-supplementation was found to affect inflammation and oxidative stress in women who had gestational diabetes.

Do Plants Have a Brain?

Plants may be the most underappreciated life forms. Since they can’t move like animals, they’re usually considered simple environmental bystanders –– soaking up sun, providing oxygen through photosynthesis, providing the many fruits and vegetables we eat but otherwise living a passive existence.

Yet, scientific research is revealing so many under-recognized plant abilities, some are theorizing that plants actually have a “brain.” For example, plants can defend themselves against predators but also attract desirable visitors –– pollinators. They can communicate with other plants through their root systems and, according to some research, listen, count, remember, know their kin and feel emotions like pain.1

Certainly, plants don’t have the walnut-sized brain formations we associate with animals. But electrical and chemical signaling systems exist in plants that are analogous to those in animal brains replete with neurotransmitters like serotonin, dopamine and glutamate.2

The intelligence or brain of plants, say some scientists, may be like the distributed intelligence seen in the swarming of birds or insect colonies in which each individual has a part to play for the intelligent behavior of the whole. They are all part of the “brain.”

The ‘Brainy’ Venus Flytrap

Many have heard of the carnivorous Venus flytrap found in subtropical wetlands and also found in North Carolina and South Carolina.3 This plant traps its prey with leaves lined with “teeth” that clamp together like a clamshell, after its sensitive hairs are triggered and convey to them that food might be present.4

Contrary to its name, the Venus flytrap primarily eats ants, but also eats flies, beetles, slugs, spiders and even tiny frogs.

How “smart” is the Venus flytrap? When triggered, its trap stays slightly open for a few seconds to allow the escape of very small insects which will not provide enough food to justify the work required to digest them. (The plant secretes digestive juices, similar to those of humans, in a process that takes five to 12 days.)

The plant will also not close on a dead insect, one that doesn’t move, presumably because it will offer less nutritional value.5 In a TED talk, neuroscientist Greg Gage reveals that the Venus flytrap can actually “count” and, on the basis of how many times its sensitive hairs have been triggered, will “decide” whether the visitor is an actual insect and whether or not to close on it.6

It seems to be ruling out “false positives,” says Gage. Some researchers have ascertained that the decoded complete DNA sequence of the Venus flytrap is virtually the same size as the human genome.7

Another Brainy Plant Is the Mimosa Pudica or Sensitive Plant


Mimosa pudica is often called the “sensitive plant” because when its fern-looking leaves are lightly touched, they rapidly fold up and close. If you tap a leaf harder, the entire branch seems to fall down as demonstrated in Greg Gage’s TED talk. This amazing behavior could have evolved to scare away insects or make the sensitive plant less appealing to herbivores, he postulates.

Who says plants don’t move? Like the Venus flytrap, the sensitive plant not only moves –– it moves quickly. There is more to indicate the remarkable sensitive plant may have a brain. When Monica Gagliano, an animal ecologist at the University of Western Australia, conducted experiments on the plant, here is what happened writes Michael Pollan, in the New Yorker.8

“Gagliano potted fifty-six mimosa plants and rigged a system to drop them from a height of fifteen centimetres every five seconds. Each ‘training session’ involved sixty drops. She reported that some of the mimosas started to reopen their leaves after just four, five, or six drops, as if they had concluded that the stimulus could be safely ignored.

‘By the end, they were completely open,’ Gagliano said. ‘They couldn’t care less anymore.’ Was it just fatigue? Apparently not: when the plants were shaken, they again closed up.

‘Oh, this is something new,’ Gagliano said, imagining these events from the plants’ point of view. ‘You see, you want to be attuned to something new coming in. Then we went back to the drops, and they didn’t respond.’

Gagliano reported that she retested her plants after a week and found that they continued to disregard the drop stimulus, indicating that they ‘remembered’ what they had learned. Even after twenty-eight days, the lesson had not been forgotten.”

When Gagliano’s scientific colleagues scoffed at her conclusions that the sensitive plants were exhibiting intelligent, brain-like behavior, she reminded them that in similar experiments with bees, the insects forgot what they had learned after just 48 hours! No one doubts that bees have brains.

Other Smart Plants — Pitcher Plants

Even more “brainy” than the Venus flytrap or sensitive plant are pitcher plants, which feature deep cavities filled with digestive liquid that attracts and then drowns their prey.

Most pitcher plants are found in tropical environments but some are present on the U.S. Eastern Seaboard, Gulf Coast, the Great Lakes region, Washington state and Alaska.9 Here is how ZME Science describes the pitcher plant’s ingenious actions.10

“The Asian carnivorous species of plant from Borneo are called pitcher plants, due to their cup-shaped traps for the insects which resembles a pitcher. Pitcher plants can easily capture and trap ants due to the plant’s margins that become wet and very slippery.

When the prey walks on the edges of the flower, it falls inside the cup and is trapped there. But this plant has developed a different strategy – instead of eating one ant at a time, it devised a strategy to eat more insects in one meal.

The plant can make its edge slippery or safe, and it does so depending on what it wants. ‘The plant’s key trapping surface is extremely slippery when wet, but not when dry,’ explained project leader Ulrike Bauer of Bristol University’s School of Biological Sciences.

‘For up to eight hours during dry days, these traps are switched off and do not capture any of their insect visitors. At first sight, this is puzzling because natural selection should favor traps that catch as many insects as possible.’

The thing is, ants don’t all march in at once – they have individual scouts that go ahead and see if a route is safe. If the scouts find that the plant’s edge is not slippery, they come in with nectar. Pretty soon, the ants will return in bigger numbers to retrieve more nectar, but they will have a sad surprise – the edge of the plant has become slippery again, trapping many of them in one go.

So the plant chooses to let the scouts go and lure in more ants to feast upon. The plant’s strategy appears to be extremely successful, biologists report.”

More Pitcher Plant Ingenuity

Pitcher plants have also evolved a unique relationship with bats. They attract bats to roost and defecate to fertilize them by attuning to the bats’ specific echo-generating calls and thus luring them. However, the pitcher plant does not eat the bats. It has other uses for them. Here is how The New York Times describes the symbiotic relationship that has developed between bats and some pitcher plants:11

“By the looks of it, Nepenthes hemsleyana, a pitcher plant in the peat swamp forests of Borneo, is gradually shrugging off meat eating in favor of the nitrogen-rich offerings of an insectivorous bat.

As reported in the July issue of Current Biology, Michael Schoner of the University of Greifswald in Germany and his colleagues found that the Hardwicke’s woolly bat and the pitcher have entered a mutually satisfactory partnership.12 The plant offers the bat a perfect place to roost, and the bat fertilizes the plant with its feces.

Weighing barely more than a penny, the bat fits in the pitcher ‘like a cork in a bottle,’ said Mr. Schoner, a doctoral student.

The pitcher plant advertises its accommodations through a special concave structure along its orifice that reflects the bat’s sonar signal from many angles, making the roost easy to find; and it keeps its pool of digestive juices well below the space where the bat cocoons itself.

Bats love their pitchers, and not just for sleeping. ‘We’ve found bats copulating inside,’ Mr. Schoner said. ‘Also, mothers that have given birth to their babies.'”

Attracting Visitors in Clever Ways

Many realize that the physically attractive and fragrant flowers of plants draw bees, hummingbirds and other pollinators to them –– which seems to be the point of the visual and olfactory cues. But some plants have another way to “lock in the loyalty” of pollinators, says a study in Science.13

These plants manipulate the memory of bees by emitting caffeine, a psychoactive drug they can produce. The caffeine is said to prompt bees to remember a particular plant and return to it, making them more loyal and dependable pollinators. Here is how Science describes the phenomenon:14

“A key challenge in floral advertising is that signals must be not only attractive but also memorable: The more distinct a flower signal, the more likely a pollinator is to remember it, increasing the probability that pollinators will visit more flowers of this species while ignoring competing flower species.”

Repelling Visitors in Clever Ways

Plants have many ways of repelling visitors too –– defending themselves by warding off visitors. For example, both the sand verbena and the honey-scented pincushion coat themselves in sand, which protects them from damage from herbivores.15 And who has failed to notice that beautiful roses are surrounded with puncture-capable thorns that keep herbivores and even humans at a distance?

Plants can also alter the taste or texture of their leaves to produce toxins that make them less appealing to herbivores. For example, acacia trees are reported to produce bitter tasting tannins that make their leaves unappetizing and difficult to digest to nibbling antelopes.16

With their many subtle and not-so-subtle survival mechanisms, it is hard to believe plants do not have a brain –– albeit manifested differently than what we see in animals. They certainly exhibit intelligence, creativity and awareness of their surroundings.

What Has Led Me to Write about this Topic?

Since my awakening in 2013, I started reading a lot of information about the Cabal, Illuminati. Some articles and posts on social media claimed that Jews control the world affairs and that the Cabal, or the ruling Elites, is equivalent to Jews.

I read about this topic both in English and in Hebrew, as Israeli Jewish journalists and activists investigate this topic, too. I was very intrigued about the information that I’ve read.

Often, I was shocked of the revelations. So I wanted to find out what is the truth.

First, before delving into this topic, I would like to mention that I’m of Ashkenazi Jewish origin.

This article will provide answers – not in this particular order – to questions such as: Who are ruling, or controlling, this world, what and who are the 13 bloodlines, who are the Black Nobility, do Jews control this world, are Ashkenazi Jews the descendants of the Khazarian Elite from the Khazar Empire who converted to Judaism – those called “Khazarian Mafia” in the alternative media that rules the world?

Are the Ethiopian Jews the only “real” or authentic Jews in the world? Is there a Jewish nation or is there no connection between the different Jewish ethnic communities worldwide? Is the Cabal ruling the entire world from Israel?

Question about China

Hi Benjamin,

I was wondering about your opinion concerning the Globalist threat that China might present to the world.

I had always understood that the Rothschild “game plan” was to collapse the American Empire (just like they did with the British Empire after WWII) and then have China become the next dominant empire in the world.  Part of their “order out of chaos” motto.

I notice China is spreading their economic influence throughout both the Pacific and the Caribbean Islands, as well as in South America and Mexico.  They are also establishing economic projects throughout Africa and the Middle East, and of course making Russia their ally rather than their enemy.

While real economic development in the world is welcome (rather than destruction through wars), I am concerned about Xi Jinping declaring himself “President for Life,” as well as the new “Social Credit System” with advanced surveillance technology being implemented throughout China.

My concern is that Xi and the CCP will be tempted to consolidate their economic power throughout the world, especially with the upgrades in their military technology.  Will other countries be able to stop them from ambitions of an expansive Chinese Empire?

I’m one-quarter Chinese and I know that China has long held a belief that they are overdue for a prominent position of recognition in this world.  They have a chip on their shoulder for past indignities suffered at the hands of the Western nations.

What do you think is the risk here?  Appreciate your opinion.

Hi M,

China, like any country, has people with various ideologies and world views.  The hard-core nationalists believe the West has had long enough, and now it is China’s turn to rule the world.  The globalists in China want China to be part of a world government.

The majority of Chinese, however, are probably mostly apolitical as long as their own personal and family lives are okay.

In the end, though, because of the one child policy, China has a rapidly aging and soon to be shrinking population.

If you look at demographics alone, we will soon see India being the next center of growth.  Right now 60% of their population of 1.3 billion is under the age of 30, so they are young.  Next, if you look again at population growth and the number of young people, will be Africa.

If the West does not want to be dominated by other countries, they need to hurry up and get rid of the incompetent and satanic leadership and start raising their birth rate.  Right now women in all Western countries are not having enough children to replace the current generation.  In other words, as things now stand, shrinking and aging populations mean long-term decline for the West.

There’s lots of talk about there being too many people in the world, but that’s just not true.  The problem is incompetent governments.  It should be fairly easy to keep growing the population even as we increase the amount of virgin nature and wildlife.
